- For seven years Richard Dean Anderson played Angus MacGyver, the secret agent who didn't carry a gun or a pocketful of high-tech gadgets. Mac was a brilliant improviser; he used things he found along the way to make or repair what he needed. The 1985 show ran for seven seasons, though it was never finished a season in the top 30. It was a hit in syndication, so much so that several revival movies were produced and recently a reboot. The theme music is by Randy Edelman.

The original series is SO much better than the reboot. Richard Dean Anderson's MacGyver was a worthy hero to all of us fans of the show.
RDA sure appreciates The Simpsons referencing the show, given he had Dan Castellaneta in a guest role on Stargate SG-1 (which he produced), and later voiced himself on The Simpsons.
Wasn't there some behind the scenes drama with the reboot? Didn't Lucas Till refer to the showrunner?
@@andrewbarton2590 And an awesome theme song too and sadly no official MacGyver Soundtrack album has never been released! The theme song was only ever released on Television's Greatest Hits: Remote Control back in 1996!😉🤔💽🤷

Agreed. The second theme included a quick shot of "Countdown", Mac s ingenious way of diffusing a bomb aboard a cruise ship. I too was a teenager in the 80s

2:08 It’s impressive if Richard Dean Anderson really did this stunt, MacGyver was my favorite show when i was a kid, it was really cool to have a hero who uses his intelligence instead of weapons, especially in the 80s.
Agreed I think that was what really set this show apart from the others, it was a show the entire family could watch and everyone could be entertained by it.

I was on a camping trip with my university and the first night we were there, one of our leaders realized she'd forgotten a can opener. My Swiss Army knife has a can opener, so I pulled it out and handed it to her. She stared at me for a second and was like "Why do you have this just on you?" and I said "I've watched MacGyver and now I never go anywhere without it"

This was my childhood, although I was born years after it went off the air. The whole series used to be on Netflix over a decade ago, and my brother and I binged the whole thing over the course of a summer.
Best episode, where he's in that mansion and his nemesis is in control. Uses that armoured suit and the machine guns blasts it to bits. Classic show!!.

MacGyver never used guns but nothing but straight knowledge he was too smart
The only times that he would use a gun are when he needed a diversion,or a prop, or one revolver to be used as a WRENCH that would not slip off a wet nut for the sake of turning a valve!
I'm actually a gun geek but the fact he did that stuff actually was amazing

I watched the series when I was 19 years old when it first came on television I never missed a episode a hero for humanitarian Causes and non violence he was a hero.of the mind

dana elcar had such an big career, i'm not american so the most i remember him was, he played as a kaos agent in "get smart" i.e a baddie, then ironically played a good guy and as maxes chief in one of the get smart movies then the most iconic of them all macgyvers best friend pete

I grew up watching Macgver in New Jersey. I love all his science ideas.
Apart from enjoyment and fun, what television was also doing back then was to inspire kids to become somebody, after this show many wanted to become an engineer, others wanted to become dancers after watching Fame, a cop or detective after watching Miami Vice or T.J. Hooker, doctors/surgeons after ER, just to name a few. Now all they can inspire to become is being a whiny buggers who think life gives you everything for doing nothing as long as you complain about it.
I feel like listening to this theme when I fix something . It seems that this theme makes me genius.
For those who don't know, RDA also made a series called LEGEND, it's based in a western, but it's mostly MacGuyver meets Star Trek Q, they have adventures.

진짜 맥가이버는 최고의 미드임~ 한국에서는 군사 독재 시절때 최초 반영했는데... 그당시에도 너무 너무 잼있었음~
전격Z작전(키트), 맥가이버, 에어울프, 머나먼정글, 초원의 집, 600만불 사나이 등... 은 정말 내 가슴속에 최고의 미드임~
그리고 이당시 OST 오프닝 만든 자곡가들은 정말 천재들임... 2000년이후로 이런 임펙트 있는 오프닝 음악은 아직까지 보이지 않고 있다~

A TOTAL LEGEND, he first is Macgyver honing his fighting/survival skills, he then changes his identity, enters black ops, leads Earth through the Stargate, defeats the Goa’uld, the Replicators, introduces Earth to the Asguard and gets us human builtn intergalactic spaceships, defeats the Ori, made a 4 star General, helps defeat the Wraith in the Pegasus Galaxy, ultimately making Earth the most powerful race in 3 galaxies. This man is a an Earth icon 😂
