- Hey there, I'm a week early! Can you believe it? Today we’re going through the costume design of Matt Reeves’ The Batman. The Batman had an undertone of darkness that was seen throughout not only the script but the costume as well. I’m going to go through the costume design, the influences, and show how you can dress like them! This is my first time going through a superhero movie so be gentle. "I am glad that DC is so proud of their blatant fetishwear. Like, not even kinkshaming here - there is zero percent chance this leather catsuit, collar and cincher belt was not sourced from a fetishwear catalogue. And that is fine. Just please, stop pretending that anything in the Batman universe is "practical", "functional" or "realistic". The character, the story, the supporting cast - it's all absurdism all the time, baby!
Like, I was a little tipsy when I posted this but ffs, you have quotes on this page from this fucking artbook that DC published saying "oh it's technically not a catsuit - it's a jumpsuit - Selina isn't Catwoman yet, blah blah blah" and I'm like "No, fuck off, it's a fucking catsuit. By the dictionary definition, it IS a catsuit. Grow up. Just fucking call it what it is and own it."
I mean jfc, heaven forfend that we undermine the very serious, totally realism-based and not remotely ridiculous attire of these fictional characters, for fear that the masquerade might slip, the audience's suspension of disbelief might inexorably crumble and we are unable to continue maintaining the cinematic sanctity of the fucking Batman movies. Ugh. -_-
Sorry. But I'm basically at the point where this shit just winds me up the more I see and think about it.
That and I think I just prefered it when they were like "there is enough material on this one vinyl PVC overcoat for a bipolar woman with recent head trauma to hack to pieces and stitch back together into a onepiece catsuit so she looks like a Bride of Frankenstein fetish model". Yes I do know it's unrealistic, smug rando on the internet - now fuck off so I can watch Michelle Pfeiffer do bullwhip jumprope tricks and purr every line of dialogue like she's sat on a tumbledryer."

Probably in a month honestly, I’m in the middle of working on a another costume design video for a cult classic movie right now, don’t want to say too much though. I’ll be recording it around the 25th and hopefully will come out a week or two after that! It’ll be a good one!
