Epic video, Mike! High & wide, fallen flag boxcars, Amtrak alright, Biggest pile of rail tie plates ever seen, Dash 2 engine and an absolutely flamin great train meet. You were the man on the spot in this one! Very cool 😎
50 years ago I worked for Queensland Government Railways. One night we had a 5 train cross. The Boss was across the road at the pub having dinner/tea/ supper. I couldn't contact him. One of the trains was the Mail Train. It could not be delayed. The Royal Mail. Going south. preceded by 2 slower goods/freight trains. From the south was a fruit train. Second in importance only to the Mail Trains. Preceded by a slower goods train. I had to reverse the order. There were three tracks and a bit of rail. Also people were bringing in fruit to go south on the Mail Train. And 10 or 12 passenger also going south, with checked luggage. I was booking freight/good and passenger and checked luggage and the Royal Mail. The Boss showed up 10 minutes before the Mail Train was due to arrive. I had 4 freight/goods trains "cut and dried", sts. And a train could NOT pass between the platform and a stationary passenger train. The Mail Train had to come down the mainline into to the passenger platform. There is much more detail and drama; but in the end I pulled it off.

That’s a big interesting tank on that first CSX! My first time seeing the Amtrak “Big Game Train”! SD40-2 leader on second CSX train! Rare dash 8 leading the third CSX!
Amtrak had a green signal at the beginning of the video then they put it to read and allowed the other train to go.. CSX does this all the time to Amtrak as well as other train companies. It is one of the reasons why Amtrak is always late CP Rail on the other hand they go out of their way to make Amtrak have the wines making their own trains wait
Harrington Rd is the last spot where one has a level crossing on the late, great New York Central, where the classic look of it's 4 track main remains intact. I won't spoil this by saying the outside tracks are running tracks, and not mains, but the lol and spirit are there.
Yes this is one spot where the NYC 4 main track is still around, but I didnt know its the last remaining one. Are you sure about this? I have a pic of the elevated tracks where many of my videos are from, that shows the 4 tracks. Its from the 1940's or 50's. Maybe ill post it on Google +
Good grief, are the rail joints every 10 feet? I wonder how old the outside track rails are. It would have seemed that the train to be held would have been on the jointed rail and the others would have been on the welded rail. But once it got stopped on the main, there was no other choice. CSX has many places where Amtrak gets held up by freights but 5 trains for meets has got to be rare. Good catch.
+gravelydon Thanks for watching and the comment. These rails are the old New York Central New York to Chicago main line. Now the 2 inner tracks are CSX main line and the outer 2 are the North and South control sidings. The sections are 40 to 50 feet each and they have a low limit something like 10 MPH on those
@@jeffreyhueseman7061 I doubt that CWR is for the sidings it's most likely replacement for the main line , they where probably getting ready to do a rail swap and then pull the old stuff out.

The railroads realized they could operate the power straight through from originate point to terminate point be it 500 miles or 3000 miles. Now you half to keep track of how many miles your locomotive's run on other railroads so the created the free runner locomotive's which run off the miles you owe to another railroad. The railroads save a lot of money by not having to change power, just crews. Seeing as the average train now uses only two locomotive's with AC drive and 9000 horsepower that uses less fuel. With 24 traction motors that previously took four locomotive's to move the same size train. Now you move that train faster and easier with AC drive locomotive's, the engines now shut themselves down when not in use to save fuel and the GE locomotive's use an electrically driven air compressor rated at 312 cubic feet of air a minute where EMD still runs the air compressor from the main engine by a drive shaft. Far less investment and a lot less fuel and oil consumption.
Ching chung chang The siding Amtrak took to run around the freight was too short for the freight to occupy it so they ran the Amtrak down it to get around the freight in front of the Amtrak train in front of the freight.
