He sees the revolution as a new way to make money and when Anton died, no one supervised the distribution of viviro, thus its perfect time for Juan to smuggle more viviro with help of Vaas. Anton killing Diego was an actual mercy. When you meet up with the old libertad he threatened to kill him and said if he knew about his family's history he would kill himself. Anton knew at the end that if Anton couldn't hold back the tides of the rebels what would Dani do? It looks like initially the plan was to use Diego a bone marrow donor, however it is clear that Anton started to actually care about him - in his own, demented way, but still. I believe he kills Diego in the end not out of spite for not being able to play dictator anymore, but rather to spare him the same fate Anton had to go through when guerillas killed his own dad many years ago. When he says "Lies!" to Dani before shooting, it's because he has no evidence to believe her or her guerillas - which is also kinda confirmed afterwards: whereas Dani is seriously concerned over the fact that a kid has just been shot dead, other guerillas don't give a crap & outright tell her to suck it up and forget about it, because "who cares?".
I bet that given the chance, one of them (or all of them) would have put a bullet in Diego first chance they got. Remember the conversation Diego had with an old imprisoned guerilla? These people want to see every Castillo dead. So... from a certain point of view, Anton made the right choice. Under these very specific circumstances, one could argue that being killed by your dad is the merciful way to go. Weirdly enough, I don't outright hate the villain, and I don't love all the heroes either - plenty of ruthless bastards there, too. Which, in my book, is a mark of competent storytelling. Well done, folks.

Like many revolutions or uprisings in real life those on the opposing side are rarely given mercy, no matter their station.
Just like how Anton was imprisoned as a child and forced to work in tobacco fields for 15 years by the previous revolutionaries before finally being freed. I can’t say I would relish his position, the only person than had any level of trust is Dani and they’re only one person against many factions that want all Castillo’s dead.
My ideal ending would have been Dani accepting the rank of General by Anton, soon Anton would die and Diego would take over, with both of them working to ease the county into a proper system of free elections.

Antón is one of the best Far Cry villains I’ve ever seen. He actually makes sense. He witnessed his father get killed by guerrillas and he knew it would happen one day again. “A guerrillas Revolution never ends.” It’s literally the thing that Antón has known and knew that it would one day end in his demise. He could see it because a Revolution killed his father, and a revolution killed him and he spared his son from the same fate that he had. Every guerrilla did not give a shit about Diego, many just wanted all Castillo’s dead. Diego was easily the greatest middle ground between this, and Dani knew that he was Yara’s greatest chance at a future. Dani knew he wasn’t a person that could lead a country and he knew that all other guerrillas weren’t as well. That’s what I’m amazed about. There’s no truly happy ending nor is there a truly awful one either. It is arguably the most realistic depiction of a situation like this that could be used as a story. A guerrilla’s revolution never ends. Antón knew this. He knew it would kill him before Leukemia was able to. He actually did the right thing by killing his son. He knew that even if his son was possibly the best hope for a future (which Dani understood), he also knew that Diego would become a victim in the future as well. It’s saddening that the villain and dictator is arguably the greatest chance at a successful society. He’s a lawful evil and the revolutionaries are a chaotic good. Haven’t played this game, but I definitely want to just to see such a great actor play yet another great role.

Damn, I was expecting a more visually realistic game for 2021, we seem kinda stuck graphic-wise, and for sure it's a hardware issue, because I can archive photorealism in physically based renders like v-ray

Because the rise of graphics in video games have become the law of diminishing returns. It takes exponentially more powerful hardware to add thousands upon thousand of more polygons and details to games and the additonal graphics and effects often dont look much better than what is already available. Plus creating photorealism in physic-renders like V-Ray is not the same as making a full on playable game.

@@captainosu2094 It doesn't take exponentially more powerful hardware to add thousands upon thousands of more poligons to a scene (not only because we are talking about millions and billions when it comes to a full scene), It's actually getting cheaper thanks to software advances that are starting to handle the billions, trillions of polygons in a smarter, adaptive way... but that's not the point I tried to convey

I really thought Juan was gonna be the final villain. He had no hesitation trying to kill a kid and he wasn't even bothered when he saw a kid bleeding to death. His stupid attempt to kill a kid also conveniently resulted in the death of the most influential person in the revolution thought he was gonna try to take control

By the time we reached Maximas Matanzas, I was actively googling how to somehow defect in some Farcry hidden Easter Egg way.
Castillo was so charismatic and actually right about everything. The more you learn about Yara and the rebels of 67 and the present day, Anton was proven right about his country and the future it could have. Order and prosperity under Castillo, or chaos under Libertad.
Also the Libertad rebels (especially Matanzas) grew so annoying I preferred siding with Castillo at the end

If anything, you're leaving the continent in worse and unstable shape cause no one is in control of the country anymore. Atleast with Anton, they had laws and a rising economy
