My brother got sent away to one of those trouble teen camps in the early 2000s (in Hurricane, UT). It's since become really nice, but when he was there they made the kids sleep outside for several weeks until they could 'earn' an indoor bed. It certainly scared me into behaving.

My rebellious stage was drinking coffee. I grew up in Layton. My parents were not in the church. They did not care that I drank coffee. I was rebelling against the culture in my school.
The Trouble Teen Industry is full of child abuse. There are some great books on it. Utah has a lot of programs because the state does not have a lot of regulations for these programs. What Jessie experienced is common in the TTI. The Family Foundation school did many of the things Jodi did to Jessie.

The troubled teen industry is sooooo horrible I lived it. It is MUCH more common to have residential programs like this is Utah and also Montana because they are way more lax on child’s rights in these areas. It is a very scary wormhole.
WThere are transport companies too that the whole business is taking kids from their home and to these facilities. I was sent to one of those programs in Kanab, Utah. My parents used one of these and the people come in and sneak attack you at dawn when you are disoriented and out of it to force you out of your home while your parents stand by..total lack of accountability and oversight in these schools once you get there. Censored, supervised, and limited communication with family when admitted so you can’t explain it get them to change their mind. Oh and they are expensive AF, many parents drain their children’s college funds to send them to these places. Many abuses of power happening in them.
Actually this is how I discovered Mormonism and how messed up and cultish it can be and was exposed to fundamentalism. We had lots of Mormon staff in our Christian based program who would accidentally casually mention things like getting your own planet with all the wives on it one day thinking it was part of typical Christian beliefs, lol.

You said that acting on your queer feelings is a big no-no in the LDS. Every video of Jodi & Ruby together indicate VERY STRONGLY that Ruby is in a a submissive "inappropriate relationship" with Jodi. Other victims of Jodi have said the same, that her practice is to separate the men from their wives, and have an affair with the wife. This has been going on for decades, and sill LDS "bishops" refer troubled couples to her for her form of "therapy". WTF?

My family was referred to Jodi Hildebrant by our bishop as well- luckily, we’d been to therapy with enough people who are not LDS that we saw the signs and got away from her as quickly as we could. I think a key part in this whole thing is the LDS church does not teach mental health, does not promote consent and safety, or even teach what abuse, boundaries or ethical therapy looks like. LDS people are taught to just follow the hierarchy of power blindly, especially bishops. When we quit seeing Jodi our bishop even questioned our testimonies.

I’ve known many other families the same way. FYI, I do have a niece that is living in a program in Montana, faith-based, not LDS run. She is adopted, so there are issues stemming from that, on top of that, she has some mental issues so severe that she has attempted suicide many times. Her parents had to do something to save their daughter that they realized they needed help. This is where a program like this would be useful. So far she is improving.

Anytime that a Constitutional right is violated, that is abuse. Even religious people can agree as these basic rights are God given therefore God approved. So punishment with food withdrawal (except for “treat” food), water withdrawal, taking away beds and bedrooms, making children pay for their own clothing, not allowing friends, isolating for long periods etc. is not on. Ruby even spoke about punishment was always for 6 months. How inappropriate, wicked and unjust. Then when Jodi is a part of the scene and has control of Ruby’s children, the abuse is way worse because her “therapy” is used to serve her own interests. ❤️from Australia 🇦🇺.

Jodi was my personal therapist at LDS Social Services, or wherever it's called, and wouldn't see me with my husband.
The stuff she said and encouraged were incongruent with the teachings of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
She was so good at telling whoever what she thinks that she thought they wanted to hear in order to keep her standing and position with the Church. What they were not aware of were the lies, twisting the truth up into exaggerations based on her lies and lack of facts.
She told me that i basically died when my husband came out with his admittance to an addiction to porn and that we'd never be the same, yada yada yada.
Some of the stuff she said was right, but she was like Poison Ivy by adding in her slanted, twisted, hateful, slimy opinions into it all so that it was frankly quite confusing, and i knew she was wrong about so much!!
I have a solid understanding of Gospel principals, the doctrine and the history of the church and the claims and allegations made against the early prophets and leaders of have Church, so the crap she said that was BS had zero effects on my knowledge, understanding and beliefs about the truth of the Church.
It's really unfortunate to see so many giving a listening, believing ear to so much garbage about the church and then use evil, twisted people like Jodi, Ruby, and the Daybell's as examples to why the church is bad or wrong, etc etc.

@Ragt0p it makes no sense to me. I totally understand that she went through trauma, but changing your pronouns doesn't change what happened to you. I also have been through trauma, not to the degree she went through. Thank you for being kind, but I want free speech. You can say anything even change your pronouns, so I would like to say kindly that I don't need to use them. It's still a free country. The whole comment section is about her they/them pronouns. It should be about her trauma or more about jody and Ruby's evil deeds.

@@irenez7439 Thanks for replying. For once I think exchange of ideas and opinions actually is happening in a YT comment section 😊 I don’t think we need to understand to be understanding. I may have difficulty understanding something, such as how people are religious. But as long as their beliefs do not harm them, me or somebody else, I’m happy to not call them out on being religious. As for pronouns, I don’t mean that changing pronouns will help with trauma. More that adding to trauma by not respecting chosen pronouns is not helpful 💕 If Jessi is more comfortable with they/them, I’m happy they have found some comfort.

Ruby & Kevin's oldest son was sent to such a camp, I believe it was for several weeks. I also heard that Jody was first his therapist before she became his parents' therapist. Ruby then became a «therapist» together with Jody.
The bishop who recommended Adam and his ex-wife to Jody for therapy was the brother of the man who owned the center where Jody worked. Jessie had to work for her aunt and she said that the church paid for the therapy sessions for those who could not pay for themselves.
Jessie believe that Jody hats all men.

It's one thing to understand how a religion works and is set up, but it's entirely different to be able to be taken into the reactive mindset that a person brought up in that culture being told the kind of things Hildebrant regularly taught her clients would have.

You need to dive deeper into the topic of the wilderness camps for teens. The "troubled teen" insldustry is fraught with abuse and I genuinely hope that the facility your family was involved in was one of the few places where actual help was being given. Look up Paris Hinton's story as well as a tick-tocker who does makeup content (i cannot recall her name). It is interesting to hear the path of the religion being a jump off point for this specific case.

Mormonism is severe abuse to the human spirit… I can see how anyone getting out would need something new to adhere to. New rules to follow… like the “pro noun” religion”. When you refer to Jesse as “they” all that happens for me, is confusion… who is this “they”. So, although I am so glad Jesse got out… I pray she and all the others that got out, don’t join the new pro noun religion… cuz, I’ve felt “shamed” for not getting someone’s pro nouns correct…. Sounds like another strict religion to me… a non religious person…..

Love the collabs you did with Amanda Rae. Would love to see you interview other Kingston ex-members. Priscilla and Jacob are two who were locked up as teens in a detention facility for not agreeing with polygamy. The Kingstons use this place, which is run like a juvenile hall, to send “rebellious” kids to. Michelle would be a great one to interview too. She introduces herself as being inbred; mother married uncle for starters. Leah Garcia, a friend of Amanda Rae, is from the AUB, was on Escaping Polygamy, knows some of the Kody Brown family, and has a lot of good stuff to say on that group. It's an obsurdity that LDS believes women are of no value to God without their husbands. A just God tries us as individuals. The Bible says with God, there is no male nor female nor slave nor free, but all are one (meaning of equal dignity and eternal worth through creation and redemption). We women don't lose our ability to be redeemed whenever a man forfeits his own eternal life. As a matter of fact, everyone has eternal life whether in Heaven or Hell. The created nature of souls don't stop their immortal nature when a marriage is over. Science has proven that nature is energy which changes with discintegration. It doesn't cease to exist. Even the souls of animals return to God.
