I needed this video to wake me up from my addiction to video games. I am almost thirty years old and I don't have any fond memories from my early twenties. From the bottom of my heart, I thank you for giving me many reasons to pursue my own passions in life before I reach the end of this precious existence. Many blessings to you iKhanic.
I'm glad to hear that man! Never too late to put down the controller/keyboard. You still have plenty of memories to make and experiences to enjoy, and I wish you the best. God bless you brother
@@ikhanic9837 lol I touched a nerce on you didn't I? 🤣🤣 I have the job of my dreams and a gf I love, and I still find time to play games with my friends, video games aren't the problem, peoples incapacity to moderate the time they spend gaming is. Grow up kid, go get yourself a life stop wasting it on a dead YT channel. And thanks for the laughs, you're a walking joke🤣🤣🤣
Those games are also the most played games around the world, so it's not that much of a stretch to say "Video Games Ruin You" when the majority of people play these games (League, Apex, GTA Online, Fortnite, PUBG, Roblox, need I say more). Also if the title was "Reptitive Games Ruin You" or "Grindy Games Ruin You" then that wouldn't ring the same, and unfortunately you gotta play the game on this website. Thanks for watching tho man, appreciate it
@@juliusunreal That's a complete and total strawman. You need food to survive, you don't need video games to survive. If you want to come up with an analogy, I'll help you. My title of "Video Games Ruin You" is closer to saying "Drugs Ruin You." You could argue that saying "Drugs" is wrong since a small portion of drugs are medicinal, but I could argue back that it's a fair generalization since the vast majority of drugs are recreational and are not necessary to survive. Go back to the debate club kid (I did debate in high school, self roast)
Life is short, and tomorrow is not guaranteed my friend as cliche as that sounds. That’s why I agree with what you’re saying, we all have talents and things that we are capable of doing that can inspire and benefit others, we should spend our time bettering ourselves and working towards our dreams like you mentioned in the video. Luckily I haven’t had an issue with video games since high school but you’re doing a good thing because this video will give perspective to people who need it!
Overindulging in anything can be harmful, gaming included. To try doing something in hopes to be remembered by can be an addiction in and of itself. Some people find solace in making a family, many in entertainments, others in substances, some in eating and few in religion. I aim to balance all of them in my lifestyle (minus the substances; never drank, smoked or took any drug in my life)
I think you’re right about this. But not everyone can get out of the loop. I got out of the loop once I got the freedom of traveling. Why would I want to stay at home doing nothing? BUT to be productive you need a project and a goal. Many people who don’t play games, just mindlessly scroll though their phone and party all the time. Partying is fun but not productive. Not everyone strives for greatness. And that’s ok. Let them be. Focus on yourself. The guilt of letting others fail will fade. (My current project takes advantage of people’s addiction to party)
This usually just applies to high action / fast paced games. Although I’m addicted to a silly vr monkey game, I still can’t play long sessions of it. Slower paced games that have higher effort to reach your goal ultimately take up less time and are more memorable.
always seen this in friends, constantly playing the endless games that are just tryna make money and not give a good experience to the players. it sucks cause there are so many great experiences in gaming that the majority of gamers won't play cause they gravitate towards mainstream free to play games that everyone else is playing and just go get addicted. ive played some of these games and had my fair share of fun with them but never stuck around as a long term player never getting addicted. i've played so many great one-time experiences that i wish i could reccomend to others but people are so unwilling to pay 20 bucks for a game that they've never heard of, when they could download fortnite for free and waste away years, its truly sad.
Main reason is it was the best option for the thumbnail. I tried WoW and Runescape but they didn't work as well as Minecraft, and I think Minecraft multiplayer (while fun and a big part of my childhood) can become easily addictive. The Minecraft survival days are goated tho
@ikhanic9837 Fair, I feel like your video is more geared towards the continued service model of game, like with subscription content. While sandbox games like minecraft are endless, I think the creative aspect balances it out. The devs didn't put it loot boxes or global leaderboards for you to constantly worry about. I feel like games such as this aren't as inherently addictive as something like an mmo or battle pass type game as this is the point with those types of games. Great video nonetheless, I think we can all use some of this advice in our lives.
Yeah it's a decent video, but saying everyone that plays games is a sad, useless person, or that all games are a complete waste of time is a shallow view in my opinion.
This is a good video and I can appreciate it, but some of it rubbed me the wrong way. There are definitely objective health benefits to limiting the amount of time you spend doing one thing to avoid overindulgence and addiction. That being said, I think that how you decide to break up that time and what you decide to do with that valued time is subjective. I know this video has more to do with having some level of addiction to video games, but some of it seems to be worded as if playing video games at all is a complete waste of time. Just because one person doesn't have many fond memories of the time they spent playing games alone or with friends, doesn't mean that the person that DOES have good memories of that has wasted their time or indulged in a useless pastime. I work 12 hour shifts and have next to no down time between said shifts. I love my job and I get lots of time off when I’m not working to do the other things I love, which includes playing video games with and without friends. I spend a substantial amount of my free time playing different games to relax and immerse myself. Telling people that they are going to die a sad, useless, meaningless life because they spent time playing games rather than learning some type of sport is not a great point in my opinion. If you truly enjoyed the time you spent doing whatever throughout your life, be it playing music, playing sports, doing some other form of art, going out with friends, or playing video games, then you did not waste your time. You aren’t going to miraculously be remembered as a better person or having a better life in general if you spent time getting good at basketball rather than spending time getting good at art or video games. I’m not going to feel like a more fulfilled person if I become a great hockey player instead of playing video games, that’s just me though, because I'm not trying to become a professional athlete. Maybe you will feel more fulfilled doing that though? Either way, it’s subjective. Video games aren’t going to elevate you physically, but they sure can elevate you mentally and emotionally. You need to spend your time doing multiple things, but that doesn’t mean cutting out video games altogether if you enjoy them. Again, I know this video was more about addiction and specific types of video games, and I haven't played the addicting games mentioned in this video so I don't have any direct experience with battling a legitimate addiction related to them. That being said, balance is key. Near the end of the video he starts to say that your life is less important or less meaningful if you spend your free time relaxing, in essence. I don’t agree with this. If you work hard during school, or in your career during work hours to better yourself professionally, then I don’t think getting good at a sport in your free time is any more or less productive than getting good at art or relaxing with your family. What makes a pastime productive? You do, not the activity itself. No need to be negative about people’s pastimes if the rest of their life is already in balance. If you struggle with video games or addiction, I urge you to do your best to overcome it and better yourself as much as the next person. But if you’re already satisfied with your life and enjoy your interests in a healthy way, video games are not ruining you. What I’m remembered for when I’m dead isn’t going to be impacted by my decision to play games in my free time. Identity isn’t linked to one specific job, pastime, or moment. It’s a culmination of many things throughout life. You could die tomorrow, you could die tonight, you could die in 10-20 years. As long as you have enjoyed your time in the present and are living for SOMETHING, it’s all worth it.
Video games, unlike playing an instrument, learning a skill that lets you create something in the real world, are generally a waste of time. Though I admit do play them sometimes for half an hour and get bored quickly. I totally agree with you.
I still think that's subjective though. If you value music and being creative then it can be a productive pass time and fulfill you, for sure. If you don't care for it though, then doing something else isn't automatically a waste of time. A person may not be learning a specific skill from playing games or enjoying some other form of entertainment, but if that person is content and is gaining some sort of fulfillment, then you can't say that they are wasting time. I enjoy going to visit my parents' house in my free time and spending time doing puzzles and eating food with them. Is that now a waste of my time because I am not producing something or getting better at something? No, in my opinion it is not. People enjoy doing different thing and value different things. Playing games might be a waste of time for you, but that doesn't make it a waste of time altogether. There are a lot of ways to enjoy doing different things! I don't think your free time NEEDS to be spent producing something. That's just me though!
Agreed, I think it would have been a more interesting video if he focused on why people get addicted to games, or other things in general, rather than belittling pastimes as a whole.
