Liberec was once a thriving textile town during the nineteenth century. Now it serves as an important hub for a variety of outdoor sports. This video focuses on just that - the great outdoors, as well as villas left over from the age of the textile industry.
In addition to these picturesque town houses, we will catch a glimpse of Liberec Town Hall; a copy of the very one in Vienna. We will also skirt past the oldest zoo in the country and enter the birth house of Ferdinand Porsche. Whilst reconnoitering inside, you will come across some exhibits and references to his life.
Later in the video we will scale a 60 kilometre long ridge and upon its highest point view an iconic design hotel-cum-TV tower. We will also traipse through some popular hiking trails and catch some pretty vantage points of town below.
I hope you enjoy watching it and in turn are encouraged to make a visit, whether you've been before or not.

I've been visiting Liberec regularly since 2006. Absolutely love the place, especially the underground music scene

Good video, really shows how much has this city to offer! Anyone having a spare day during their Prague visit should give it a go. Laid-back and relaxed atmosphere is captivating though, you might end up staying for longer ;)

Great to see city where I live in your video. The countryside here is beautiful but I don't really like the centre of Liberec it's pretty crowdy now and there are a lot of incomers. I agree with you the rotating restaurant inside the Ještěd would be amazing, unfortunately our country is in huge debt now so we can no longer even repair our highways 😀. You missed our "Botanická zahrada" Botanic Garden, it is near by ZOO and they have here amazing flowers and many other things to see. So maybe after Coronavirus you can repeat your journey around the Czech Republic and also visit Liberec again😀
I hope I haven't bored you to death (sorry for my english it's not perfect).
    Have a nice day!

Thanks for your positive comments. I know the Botanical Gardens well having made multiple visits there over the years. It was more of a case of prioritization, in some instances, seeking uniqueness over beauty. Check out my other vids if you've time & more to come in due course. Best wishes and thanks again. =T

Its a double city with neghbouring Jablonec nad Nisou - you can get there actually by intercity TRAM.
Today Liberec is known for its technical university and wold unique nonwonen nano-textiles production for not only medicine puposses and for its automotive industry and for winter international sport events.
Jablonec has been known for centuries for its glass industry and bijuterie. (for example glass decoration for Dior shops or huge crystal chandeliers for kings, bakers and importants world spot - f.e. Dubai.

      Thanks for your reply.
At times it feels like a double city owing to the Liberec-Jablonec Tramway - the longest intercity tram in Czech I believe (12 kms)! I had thought of including this. That said it is always a case of prioritizing and thus missed some other landmarks and places out. There are always additional places worth mentioning for sure. Additionally, from my experience with people here, many locals from Jablonec deem Liberec a completely different city, often favouring theirs to Liberec for a number of reasons.
I may produce a separate video on Jablonec at some point in the future. The reference to glass is certainly something quite special.

@@makingjourneys yeah it would be worthy to mention Jablonec separatelly.
No metter its one area - there has been a strong rivality between them - especially when derby fotball mach.
When mentioning Porsche boy - lets add some historical facts only:
      -he studied in Vienna
      - but his career made when working for Hitler - he gave him the task of creating a "car for the masses" (in german Volkswagen) - Porsche fulfilled the assignment and the legendary Volkswagen Beetle was created. And the legendary company was Volkswagen started the productin and has been producing untill now...

Well, if you say it´s perfect for cycling etc., you should probably warn people that it´s rather steep whichever track you take :).

Very nice video! I really like Liberec, I spent two years of my life there. And imagine how the city would have been even more beautiful if it had not been for the communist era (in addition to the Ještěd Hotel, which is perhaps also being repaired) now many things have been restored and renovated, such as the museum. That's really beautiful.! And by the way, I liked (LibereckouVýšinku)Liberec Highlands. Really great job!

Liberec - the main square - Benese sq. - in 1968 invasion of tanks one russian tank drove through houses on the corner of that square

Yes. I had heard about that in fact but thanks for the reminder. Liberec has a lot of history. Not far from there is the new synagogue on the very spot of the old one; burned down by Germans just before WW2 during the November Pogrom in 1938.

You are very brave that you dared to visit our country, aka the country which is "best in covid", in 2020! I live in the city of Liberec and must appreciate that information in the video were mostly accurate. But still, the new buildings in Liberec city centre weren´t really built from money made in nanotechnology market. In many cases, they were actually built under very strange circumstances from public funds or at least, the way the construction approval was obtained was pretty suspicious.
Anyway, good choice of destination. Czechia is not only about Prague and Český Krumlov!

Thanks for the info Viktor. I was based in Liberec a while and wanted to do the city justice by my 16 min footage of the place. Places are about people imho and even the most visited place is sure to have some hidden gems. Check out my recent ones on Prague (and less recent Görlitz) if you've time. Hezký den. =T
