Bought the template from your website yesterday, and I have to say, the difference between your work as a professional and mine as a hobby still astounds me sometimes.
With this one in particular, how you were able to optimize a fairly complex project, to the extent that I could still view & edit it in fusion on a home PC (i7, 16 on MB, 8 on Vid). It even rendered the final video in less than 30 minutes, with music and the light bleed activated too!! Whereas I've downloaded templates from other folks (one "blackbird" in particular) that I could barely open...editing was out of the question. Not to imply his work is shoddy, far from it.....but I think it's safe to say it's not optimized for "home" use either.
And let me apologize in advance if a 76-year old woman starts hitting on you next week, because my Mom is going to LOVE this video :)

Jay, remember the google-thing that you did with the letters falling apart in pixels, in Fusion? That was great! I learned to do the same by watching your video, and built it out to a moving logo for our new sailing vlog, including a miniture catamaran that raises it's sails and sails away. I'm not writing this to promote our vlog, but if you like, just watch the first few seconds of the first one, to see that logo. Thanx for that tutorial! My channel is now called "Sailing Exodos".

You are amazing! I have a new interesting challange/request for you. How to display videos (instead of photos) on pages of a photo album while those pages are being turned. Like in the (rather old) video 'It Used To Be My Playground' of Madonna. The major challage here is 'turn/wrap' planar videos in 3D-space as the pages are being turned. Can you do stuff like that also?

Hi J, I had never tried FUSION and your tutorial looked interesting enough to guide me through my first try. I was able to create the first level nodes for one photo. Everything worked well. When I began working on the second photo nothing but problems. The photos would not resize, and then the mask would not cover the photo. I checked the node settings for the first photo against the second and nothing was different. I even went to the extend of making a separate set of nodes for the second photo as opposed to linking them back to the first, like you did, just to see if I did something wrong. Nope that didn't help. The only thing I suspect is the free version of Resolve 16.1.1 is not capable of doing this tutorial. Too bad some great effects and a nice result.

I had similar 'buggy' behavior, with this method. Everything would render fine in Fusion, the second time playing through. The first time through, there would be a list of failed parameters from various nodes, with most of the frames. Then, when I went into the edit tab, there would be a single frame that would render (seemingly random, but persistent until I made changes in fusion). So, blank background until frame 708 (for instance) which would show the correctly positioned Polaroids, for a single frame, then back to blank background.
I played around, detaching nodes, restarting the software, restarting the computer. Then suddenly, it's rendering fine and I can't seem to 'break' it again.

I just used the Instant Slideshow for a retirement party and thought I'd share my experience with it. Although I'm a beginner with Fusion I was easily able to expand the template to 105 photos. The Fusion blocks are modular, so you can copy and past the middle ones. My render time was about an hour and a half, outputting to 8-bit uncompressed 422... then a few minutes of FFmpeg for converting the uncompressed output to a final x264 file.
For fun I tried to go the extra mile using DOF in fusion. JayAreTV set it up so it's easy. All you need to do is turn it on at the 3D Rendering node with a few clicks. I have a similar editing rig to JayAre above, but with a Radeon RX 580... In my case Fusion's OpenGL with DOF enabled crushed my graphics card like nothing I've ever seen... It was rendering, barely... the RX 580 was maxed out and furiously crawling along at 0.1 FPS. In an hour it rendered 6 seconds, so I canceled that. Good to know my hardware limitations, LOL.
Anyway, if you need a slideshow and want to learn fusion at the same time I recommend JayAre's template.

Hi Jay! So I tried to put together a mother's day video doing this and I can't get it to export without crashing about 10% of the way through and it keeps ticking up and up, last I saw it was at 7 hours. I'm using 16.2.1.017 on a 16" MacBook Pro 8-core i9, 64GB RAM, and AMD Radeon Pro 5500M with 8GB. Maybe that's not enough oomph to handle it. lately I bought this instant film/slideshow to create something for my brother. I really love this slideshow, but after a couple of days working on it, my fusion page crashed. It's strange 'cause all other pages seem to work, except the fusion page, (which I used most). I can't finish this project anymore and I have uninstalled and installed Davinci Resolve twice. Now I have Davinci resolve 16, but still the same problem. Im not sure if its because of what I bought, but never had problems like this before. Is there a way to fix it? what can I do? I hope you can help me, cause I love this software and I love you're tutorials. keep posting your videos! I'm a fan
