  • One of my favorite Commanders, a mono-black behemoth of a deck, K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth seeks to win games fast with its incredible speed, brutality, and consistency. Tutors, graveyard interactions, and skillful understanding of your combo lines are keys to victory! Best of all, this deck can be built to any budget or meta; competitive, middle-of-the-road, or budget, all you need is the core cards and you're set!

    i play K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth competitively, and i only ever have difficulties against Kenrith, and Kinnon decks.
    i disagree with using Ancient tomb, you become reliant on using it and without enough life gain effects you end up literally killing yourself by using it. Instead use Bubbling Muck for an explosive turn, Crypt Ghast, and Nirkana Revenant. Even if you do run those i discourage using Urborg, tomb of Yawgmoth as sometimes giving your opponents the ability to tap a land for a black mana could help them win and you DO NOT want to run Cabal Coffers because it's too slow for how fast K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth is.
    There is a reason Leshrac's Sigil was part of the K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth/Post Malone secret lair, it and Sensai's Divining top serve the same purpose having Bolas's Citadel and Aetherflux Reservoir as with those cards it's another win condition. Just remember you need 21 life to go from storm count 0 to infinite with Leshrac's Sigil if somehow everyone let you retain the Reservoir on field for an entire turn.
    A "budget" win condition for K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth is using Blood Celebrant to give you the mana to cast Repay in Kind (where your at 3 life or less when it resolves) then casting Blood Tithe/Exsanguinate. This can be done Turn one.
    Here is the list of non basic lands i recommend; Gemstone Caverns, Barren Moor (i'm doing doomsday build, replace with basic swamp if your not doing doomsday), Hive of the Eye Tyrant, Urza's Saga, Crystal Vein (do not run if doing Doomsday build), Sanctum of Eternity, Boseiju, Who Shelters All, Shizo, Death's Storehouse, Inventor's Fair, Cavern of Souls, Drownyard Temple, Homeward Path, Radiant Fountain (i'm surprised he doesn't bring up because for K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth it's like gaining 2 mana as one land drop).
    Personally, i would run Exhume or Persist over Reanimate but could still be worth running. Reason being is your trying to lean on Boseiju, Who Shelters All, just keep in mind it causes you to lose 2 life.

    Krik is the nastiest mono black card printed in years! Love how scalable he is. Did a midrange demon deck and loved it. Was able to drop the beefy demons much sooner than my curve would allow. If your doing mid range like I did I highly recommend the 1-2 drop black cards that bounce dead creatures back from the bin, or gain indy till
    Eod. He will be a lighting rod on the table most of the time. Happy brewing!

    I can't say this enough... Saw in half... protect some of your win cons and win con part in itself. Opponent trying to kill Necrotic Ooze? Too easy, now you have two. Early win con with low CMC, Gary out and target with SiH... three triggers now. It's very versatile. Can save a card from being exiled if it's legendary, instead it's in your GY. This card has saved me multiple times.

      Also part of why you run Activated Sleeper. i don't like "Saw in half" because it seems half the time an opponent happens to have Deflecting Swat, and you also have to worry about Misdirection.

    Buried alive is literally a one card combo provided you have a reanimation spell lol. Buried Alive sending Ooze, Familiar and Asmodeus is a literal draw your deck out and play all your rocks and combo off. It also sends Ooze, Chainer and Dimir House Guard and wins you the game on the spot provided you have Gray Merchant in play or in grave.

      Necrotic Ooze. It's a four-drop and it gains all the activated abilities of carda in the graveyard. If I can get Asmodeus and Skirge Familiar in the graveyard first, I can essentially use the Ooze as a makeshift Griselbrandt.

    Is the 26 lands working for you? Seems low but maybe theres enough ramp?

    • @PlaneswalkerProject
      @PlaneswalkerProject  Год назад +1

      Absolutely. See, you want to aggressively mulligan to ensure you get a turn one K'rrik, so even if my only lands are City of Traitors and Crystal Vein, I'm still golden. K'rrik handles all the black pips on his own, and so at that point, I only need my lands to handle the generic mana costs, if I'm unable to get Jet Medallion or Heartless Summonings. If I can get my engine running using Necrotic Ooze/Asmodeus/Skirk Familiar, I have all the mana I need. Same goes for Blood Celebrant, who can get around K'rrik only affecting black pips, and allow me to use him to pay for the generic pips as well.

    • @PlaneswalkerProject

      Mostly preference here. Sign in Blood is tactically speaking better to use, paying the four life to draw two and lose two, but if Vilis isn’t in play, dropping six life to draw two might be a little too much use of the resource. I personally preferred to pay the one mana to spare myself the extra life. Sign in Blood would be more the optimal choice here though.
