I think aesthetically these are the best looking Evercade consoles. I don't see why they would both come with the same bundled cart though. Anyone buying the pair would have a spare cart

The price drop is very welcome but I'll give the VS-R a pass as there's really no benefit to upgrading from the OG VS. I think these have little to offer an existing Evercader, the primary reason for the EXP would appear to be the expiration of the Capcom licence. As CB mentioned, there probably have been some minor internal tweaks along with the removal of the HDMI on the EXP-R and I would guess those tweaks have also been applied to the VS-R which have maybe contributed to reducing the price. This smaller price is great for new users though and I would guess it is another push to expand the user base so they can keep going after the big licensees like SEGA, which is obviously great news for all users (Space Harrier please).
The November hardware may well be a full on refresh, perhaps with a faster SoC and more RAM so the platforms that can be emulated can be expanded to include machines past the PS1.

A bit underwhelming. This seems like a midlife update to reduce costs. No mention of any changes or improvements for the EXP, though personally ive never had an issue with both mine. The upcoming EXP-R is definitely a reduced price, but the VS-R is actually *MORE EXPENSIVE* than what the standard white VS sells for now! I live in Sweden (where everything is super expensive) yet found numerous gaming stores in Stockholm selling the VS “Premium Pack” (with two controllers and two cartridges) for $99. And yes, these are new and sealed units.
So the VS-R with only one controller and one cartridge for $99 is actually a really bad deal.
Unless you absolutely hate the white color scheme of the original VS (and don’t want a second controller and second cartridge) then the VS-R is a price gouge.

Glad I have a working regular EXP so I can still have the HDMI out. This is the reason I purchased an external monitor not long ago. If future models won't have that, not sure how I'm gonna feel going forward.
My opinion on why this change is a simple one. The holidays are over and it's finally around that time for manufacturing more units again (would explain why VS-R). The Capcom thing makes much more sense if that's all this is. With it being that time again, probably using this as an excuse to rebrand and cut down costs instead of just making more of the exact same. Along with no HDMI out, likely using cheaper parts too so probably best to hold off on purchasing until people spend time with the new consoles. Doubt we even will get a 4000ma battery because why? Cutting costs. IMO it's R for rubbish. I'm not happy at all.

Their best product is still the original Evercade by a country mile, the EXP was a bit of a disappointment all they needed to do was upgrade the screen of the original and it would have been perfect, but they decided to add tate mode which was really nothing but a gimmick, the sound is worse than the original, the battery life is dreadful and even the buttons are a little bit smaller.
I was never really interested in the VS, for me the biggest draw of the Evercade was always it's portability..
These new products just seem to be cost reduced versions of the previous machines, I can't see anything to get excited about here, I really feel like Blaze have been headed in the wrong direction for quite a while now, flooding the market with increasingly poor products.

Didn’t they begin the intro trailer with a bunch of meanings for the -R?
I feel like Evercade can’t win here… had this been new hardware people would be mad, as seen with countless comments already even though these aren’t actually new, but the other half is mad that these aren’t actually new.
I think these absolutely make sense from a business perspective… most of us are already Evercade fans or we wouldn’t be creating, watching, or commenting, but I feel these are targeted at widening their user base without alienating their existing fans, and in that I think they succeed.
An “on the fence” consumer can now get a good looking pair of matching Evercade products at a decent price… while I personally don’t mind the OG VS, I’m admittedly glad I have the Founders Edition as the OG does have a toy look about it and until now it was the only retail unit widely available.
It also makes a nice retro gift set, someone can pick up both -R versions and a few cartridges for a loved one and it’s immediately a nice intro into the Ecosystem that will have a cohesive visual feel, again, something that wasn’t easily feasible at general retail prior to the -R revisions.

Im done with Blaze, too many new things but none of my interest. No dipswitches, no new and real firmware with possibility of reflash faulty carts... no new carts of arcade gems (Taito, SNK, Konami, SEGA, Midway...) etc, etc, etc...
Sorry but im done. Isnt only those "new" consoles, are the leaks of the "gigacarts" (tomb raider...bah).

Honestly, I think it’s good news! A new edition with the same specs indicates that Blaze still believes in producing games for the systems we own.
I was scared that these would be beefed-up pro-models that would slowly make current Evercades obsolete. This is a sign that Blaze intends to produce carts for our consoles at least for these next years.
We could have ended up with the company jumping ship to Super Pockets, but this indicates that their visions for Evercade stays firm.

These aren't for existing owners, they're designed to snare would- be buyers who may have been on the fence. I don't see the point in the VS-R though - it seems pretty much identical to the original VS. Blaze also have missed a trick by not moving over to USB-C for the VS-R.
Since there's no meaningful changes such as better battery, upgraded speakers for the EXP, there's absolutely no reason to buy one.
I'll stick with my black EXP and black VS.

Apart from looking visually appealing compared to the original designs. I really don't see the point of these sudden hardware revisions. Despite going for a full cartridge set I'm not going to be one of those collectors buying every hardware revision. I don't see the point of that. The original handheld. The VS. The EXP and the Taito super pocket is more than enough for me.

This is a small point BUT... I love my EXP and I often hook it up to my big TV (when the wife's out) to play retro games on the big screen. But, it's a bit of a faff, the EXP is unbalanced as a TV controller and connecting to the TV with a massively long HDMI cable is annoying. SO teh idea of a VS sat in the media centre is appealing BUT the current VS is WHITE while all our other media gadget are BLACK! A minor point, but one that would give the wife an excuse to say that I didn't need it! So a BLACK VS would sink her reasoning! LOL
