    edit: thankfully i knew all these things!! But its good to know!
    the **only thing is that you can charge up to 100% IF it is the standard. the long range does not use LFP batteries so it still needs the 80%**

      @@JohnLCharette omg ive never been pinned before! And yeah! That was pointed out by a person at the location. I live an apartment so i need the range. She recommended the standard so i can charge to 100% when i can. while the long range has a longer range, at 80% the range is the same as 100% of the standard
      ill edit my comment to have the helpful bit at the top

    I wish you could set it so that single-click was the basic auto-pilot / cruise control, and that double-click was the full self driving. Before the FSD preview came out it worked that way with single engaging speed control and double adding the lane keeping, it messes me up now that it's FSD or nothing (unless you disable the FSD preview entirely).

    • @JohnLCharette
      @JohnLCharette  9 месяцев назад +1

      Yes! I totally agree. On our Model S', you pulled the cruise control stick towards yourself for cruise control, then double pulled for autopilot. This should work similarly.

    • @KevinT3141
      @KevinT3141 9 месяцев назад +2

      One tip I haven't done yet is create a second profile for myself, having one set for FSD and the other for basic auto-pilot. Then you can just pick the profile that suits the mood you're in for the drive.

    • @JohnLCharette
      @JohnLCharette  9 месяцев назад +1

      Sounds like a nightmare to keep them in-sync. It would be awesome if you could duplicate a profile, then make that one change.
      Tesla told me a couple years ago that they were working on a way to import/export profiles from one vehicle to another, when you upgrade. Haven't seen it though.

    Probably should pin a comment stating that the 100% charge only applies to the RWD version and not the LR and Performance versions of the model 3. Too many people don't actually read the description.

    • @JohnLCharette
      @JohnLCharette  9 месяцев назад

      We opt'd for the cheapest model (RWD) and saved up $35k to put down against it. Because of that, our payments are comparable to our gas costs each month, so it's a wash. Do I wish we could have afforded the dual-motor long range? Of course, but given that we mainly use this for commuting to work (50km or 30m) each way.. it's working perfectly.

    • @Mu5icPr0ducer
      @Mu5icPr0ducer 7 месяцев назад

      @@JohnLCharette why would you put down $35,000? you could invest that money instead, and use that money to effectively lower payments

    • @StadiaTime
      @StadiaTime 5 месяцев назад

      @@Mu5icPr0ducer putting a higher down payment will always be more effective at reducing your monthly payments than only putting down the minimum and investing the rest.
      Investing 35,000 in a 4.5% savings account would only give them around $80-$100 a month after taxes. That would still leave them with a car payment of around $300 to $400 every month. By putting down that whole amount, they’re probably only paying around $100 every month for the car which allows them to build the savings back up quick quicker.
      Unless you have a second account with a ton more money separate from the down payment, it’s simply not worth it.

    Tesla's are great driving cars but come with insanely pathetic, incompetent and expensive service departments. I would not buy again if I had known beforehand but now I'm trapped unless I want to loose a lot of money on resale. Look elsewhere.

    • @JohnLCharette

      My experience with their service centers is very location-specific. For example, in the Greater Toronto Area, the North York and Innisfil ones are junk, but the Woodbridge one is AMAZING. It's also the oldest and biggest. I recommend searching for another location if the one you experienced isn't great.

    Tip 1: Save more in the long run, and do the planet a favor, by getting an economical gas-powered vehicle. Mazda, Hyundai, and Kia will save you thousands in the long haul.
    2. Call your insurance agent and learn ahead of time how much higher your premiums are going to be. It won't be pretty.
    3. Then go price tires so you aren't shocked when you need expensive, foam-filled tires.
    4. Know that you are NOT ALLOWED to work on your tesla at all. Any repairs you make without using a tesla shop immediately voids your warranty. You and your kid won't be working on your car for fun anymore in the garage on a Saturday
    5. Prepare yourself mentally and financially for hundreds of hours lost due to charging (especially on vacations/long trips that will require extra hotel nights simply due to charging).
    6. If you have rural family, especially in the high country or back country, you won't be visiting them in your tesla. There is literally no charging in many parts of the country where people live, and to put public chargers out there would be way too expensive for anyone to try it.
    7. If you are male, remember to turn in your man card before you leave the dealership. Real men don't drive golf carts around town. Electric grocery getters are for the ladies.

      Interesting opinions.

    • @bartjoboy
      @bartjoboy 8 месяцев назад +2

      Lol, all these points are only partly true at best or else complete BS. Electric cars are (well to wheel) at least half as polluting on average as regular combustion engine cars in their entire lifespan. And charging really is not a problem at all. When charging at home, it's not like you're actively waiting until your car is charged. You can put it on charge and do other stuff or just at night while you're sleeping. And when traveling at a quick charger you can charge it to ~80% within like 20 minutes.
      On longer trips we literally take longer to go grab a coffee and go to the bathroom as it takes for the Tesla to charge enough to drive another 2-3 hours. After which you probably want to take another break anyway. It's really not that big of a deal as you don't have to go stand next to your car the whole time, you can do other things.

      @MrPJD17 7 месяцев назад

      Enjoy teaching your kid on Saturday that masculinity is linked to inanimate objects and writing complete BS on the interent (who's paying you to spread this shit?).
      Oh and finish up with telling him that if your wrong about renewables you've contributed to fking up his and his kids future cause you like diesel and mufflers and stuff and that's more important & if the sustainable (forever) option is wrong there's no change except this fun/fast/safe as fuck car. I'm sure he'll understand.

      1. No they won’t
      2. Insurance is the same as my BMW of the same market value
      3. Tires are cheaper than for my Audi or BMW
      4. No need to work on it
      5. No time lost - it sits in the garage while I sleep and it’s full of energy every day. Time is saved by not going to the gas station each week.
      6. A problem for almost no one
      7. You look longingly at every man driving one, wishing you could be him, or be with him. That’s why you’re watching videos about them. I mean, you suggest buying a Hyundai or KIA 😂 🌈 🍆 you go girl!!
