I'd heard this band was trying to parody Power metal. But they do such a good job that it's more like power metal than a lot of other bands. I sincerely hope they do more.
Fantasy power metal is so close to being a parody of itself as it is, the best way to actually parody it is to just do the same thing with everything turned up to 11.
Norpal Pretty much, yeah. Power metal has never really been a particularly serious subgenre to begin with (There's a reason Freedom Call likes to refer to the stuff they play as 'happy metal'), so parodying it is pretty easy. But it's really the best kind of parody: a sincere affectionate parody. I mean, even though they're basically playfully mocking the whole power metal thing, they've come up with a narrative, characters, costumes, and made some legitimately fun music. Just shows that they've put actual effort into the parody.
Michael Welsh Absolutely,it's the same with Steel Panther or Deathklok, parodying 80's Hair and Death Metal. We just need somebody doing something like this with Prog and Black Metal, because these genres are taking themselfs way too serious.
Michael Welsh Sabaton seems pretty serious to me and I would definitely classify them as power metal. Fantasy power metal on the other hand :D I honestly laughed really hard when I've first heard this song, the lyrics are just so... playful even though they are about an invasion and people dying :D
alex bajayo I am a little crazy at times so coming up with the Undead Winged Hussar Unicorns is pretty easy... Now to one up myself I shall now propose, "Undead Soviet Swedish Pagan Winged Hussar KV-2 Panzer Battalion Ghost Division Unicorns." (Oh dear that is long.)
This is the shlockiest brick of shitty fantasy metal tropes I have ever seen. It has the silliest lyrics, the most insane premise, and some actually really grim subject matter, backed up by some damn good guitar work. 10/10, listen to this every single day.
The line itself does not sound funny at all but when it follows after "An army of undead unicorns are riding into the fray" is when I die of laughter :-D .
Only Gloryhammer can make unicorns seem fucking badass. Like the more I think of it, unicorns are badass. Horses with fucking giant horns that fly like you know how fucking scary that shit would be? And they are undead like omfg
In that case, here are a few unicorn facts you might be interested to hear: -Unicorns were actually said to act wild and vicious towards anyone who wasn't of the absolute highest level of purity. Those who were of such purity were treated gently and kindly. -A creature in Mediterranean mythology called the shadhavar looked like a unicorn but it was a gazelle with a single horn rather than a horse. The shadhavar was said to lure animals near it by raising its horn to the wind to create a flutelike song, then viciously attack and eat the animals who came near. -Sorry, I'm a big nerd for mythology, so I had to infodump ^^'
Fun fact: the myth of unicorns began in the late Roman era when somone described a Rhino very very badly. The early Christian Church believed the mistaken discription to be an entirly diffrent real creature, and thus we have the supprizingly brutal and violent but beatuifle unicorn.
There are two sabaton songs about fantasy and one is about the Ring Wraiths and the other is about the Traitor Legions and Chaos... BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD SKULLS FOR THE SKULL THRONE!

Ryan Luty "Honestly I know they are a parody of power metal and stuff" They are? I was not aware. This song's lyric has some hilarious lines, but overall it works for me. Want to grab a sword and run into battle against an undead blight. :)

+Pigeaterdlx You should hear the second album, they transfer everything 1000 years into the future, where it becomes an expy of the 40K universe, and the ending of the album is DARKER than 40K.

I can't believe I didn't realize this before.... but listen to the bass kicks during the verses. In the chorus, it's a staccato fast kick beat 1-2-3-4. HOWEVER, during the verse, it's the same staccato beat, but missing the fourth kick, so 1-2-3-blank. And in doing so, does it not remind one of a galloping horse, or unicorn? O_O!!!!
It's a staple of power metal in general, but kind of fitting for this song in particular. And it's not really missing the fourth kick since that'd be three 16th notes with a 16th note pause in every beat, but instead it's a traditional galloping rhythm with an 8th note followed by two 16th notes. Also, staccato is an interesting word to use, my brain is melting while I'm trying to think what legato drumming would sound like.
Christopher Bowes is a genuinely talented songwriter. Sure his stuff is usually pretty silly, but the music speaks for itself. This, To the End of the World, Wooden Leg Part 2, Rise of the Chaos Wizards, The Fires of Ancient Cosmic Destiny, 1741... The man knows how to make something sound good.

Seriously. Making a song about a wizard that puts evil spells on the once noble beasts referred to as unicorns, making them undead and marching to destroy their homeland. If this isn't originality I do not know what is.
This and Magic Dragon are my favorite songs from this band. It may sound weird but my car is the green dragon and her song is the Magic Dragon. Love you guys
if you love true metal inspired by dragons and Dio and all those who love great story telling then this should bring forth magic spells from your soul.
Just because i never saw someone talking about this: is anyone else thinking that Angus McFife II (and therefore the XIII. aswell) is the descendant of Zargothrax(or a Unicorn? not sure about this), produced in the raping at the invasion? (1:29)

It's amazing how they can make such an epic song out of a ludricrous premise like a unicorn invasion in Dundee.
Don't forget that they're undead, too. Scottish people don't know what a ludicrous premise is. They'll make an epic song out of anything.
nothing, absolutely nothing is ludricrous about undead unicorns!!!!

Alright people. It's over: the most epic song has been created. It's all downhill from on there, so don't bother. Thank you all for coming.
I disagree. Their songs just keep getting more awesome.
@@Skyblade12 Gloryhammer is peak music, alongside Echo and that bicycle horn cover of A Cruel Angel's Thesis.
Check out their missiles of nuclear justice
The Sword Lord of the Goblin Horde begs to differ...
The drums: on fire.
The guitar: shooting lightning.
Metal level: enough to make steel plate armor for a legion or two to take back Dundee.
Seriously. Making a song about a wizard that puts evil spells on the once noble beasts referred to as unicorns, making them undead and marching to destroy their homeland.
If this isn't originality I do not know what is.
And destroying **Dundee, Scotland** of all the places
going on a blind date with a gargoyle?
@@Zekromaster Well the Unicorn is the national animal of Scotland
I'd completely forgotten about this until tonight. Thanks, Internet, for making the coming week a bit more bearable
I am in love...with this song! This is so epic I have goosebumps all over my body!

I only have one question... was the Beautiful Princess raped by undead unicorns, or someone else?
I choose to believe the unicorns
Yes.
Berserk
Probably Zargothrax? Hopefully not Angus

What if Gloryhammer are the Sabaton of an alternate Universe?
That beginning gets me every time.
Thank you for recommending this, Spotify.
Well... finally, power metal typewriter has been found.
''The beautiful princess was raped ....'' wait,by the undead unicorns?! Dude, that's some really fucked up stuff, seriously.
***** Every time I hear these lyrics I get reminded of South Park The Stick of Truth...
***** Pretty sure it was Zargothrax that did it
***** Rape Horse strikes again.
***** Nah that would be to unrealistic

I Dm'd a D&D campaign I made up to this song. We had a great time.
I seriously can't stop laughing at this. This is absolutely hilarious.
The ultimate balance between corniness and badassery. Love it!!
Me playing Robot Unicorn Attack Evolution: "Screw my manhood, I love this game!"
Me after finding this song: "My manhood is restored"
This and Magic Dragon are my favorite songs from this band. It may sound weird but my car is the green dragon and her song is the Magic Dragon. Love you guys
if you love true metal inspired by dragons and Dio and all those who love great story telling then this should bring forth magic spells from your soul.
I only just discovered this band - I meant to look up a different song but then this was suggested when I typed 'Gloryhammer' so I had to listen
What's your favorite song by them?
@@Alice_Bedlam I don't know. This one is iconic, but I like Masters of the Galaxy as well. They're just a good band in general.
@@unapologeticallylizzy my favorite song by them is Hootsforce probably. but I do agree they are a great band.
@@Alice_Bedlam Yeah, I should listen to more of their stuff.
@@unapologeticallylizzy true, did you buy any of their albums?
That solo fucking rules
Just because i never saw someone talking about this: is anyone else thinking that Angus McFife II (and therefore the XIII. aswell) is the descendant of Zargothrax(or a Unicorn? not sure about this), produced in the raping at the invasion? (1:29)
0:23 "They ride to war like on snowmobiles......" Sorry, german XDDDD
I pretty accurate....
cant say much for the sound quality but the lyric fonts are top notch..damn fine job rokuzo
I love this so much.
Undead unicorns FTW!
How can this be so epic and ridicolous at tue same time? It's awesome

This is the song you come for so you can stay for the rest of the album
5 people were from Dundee
My favorite Power Metal album and Power Metal band of all time!!
I remember that battle like it was yesterday, lots of good undead unicorns where lost on that day
This is brilliant! Last time I laughed this hard was when I was drunk and watching comedy movies
THEY'RE RECORDING A NEW ALBUM!!
I still come back here. So good memorys :D
When your chorus is too big , but you are Gloryhamer so you use it as it is!!!!!
Unicorns be like: We were *good* but now we are *bad*
