    Lucky freaking loves Luanne, he's so polite and respectful to her. He legit doesn't expect her to do anything for him he just feels lucky to have her. He's not the prettiest person or the smartest but he treats Luanne with all the respect and dignity that she deserves.

      He was a genuinely good person, who genuinely loved Luanne and genuinely cared for the Hills. Due to his upbringing and life he led before he met Luanne, he wasn't always the brightest and he was certainly a slacker and a hillbilly, but after becoming part of the main cast he constantly tried to better himself in small ways, and always tried to do right towards his family. I know I'm in the minority, but he quickly because one of my favorite characters in the show. I don't understand the hate for him. Peggy, on the other hand, I very rarely liked. Her antics were sometimes entertaining, but I hated her as a person. Admittedly, during the series' first run, I never really thought "I hate this character" when watching it, since I was simply "watching" it, but as I revisited the series, I really noticed how horrible a person she was (or at least, that was my opinion of her)

      I agree Lucky could be a good person, and started to shape up as time went on and he started gaining more responsibility like a child, but he wasn't a "genuinely good person". His one claim to fame was basically exploiting the legal system and some business which he was proud of, not producing anything useful to society. He could be remarkably short-signed, narrow-minded, and selfish (of course, that describes a lot of the characters). He sent thugs to extort "wedding gifts" from Kahn and Minh. He's destroyed other people's property (like Hank's lawn). The list goes on.
      I would characterize Lucky as generally well-intentioned but a flawed person who did improve over time.

    I'd love to see a Buck Strickland video. Buck comes up a lot in peoples' "worst" lists, and there are many points where he's almost on par with Redcorn. He cheated on his wife, he's a deadbeat dad, he abandoned Bobby in a dark alleyway while he was gambling, and he's interfered in multiple relationships for Hank, with Bobby, Cotton and Luanne. And don't even get me started on the constant hitting on Luanne and the marriage proposal thing to her when he's old enough to be her grandfather. Redcorn's a douche, but not a pervert. I'm kind of torn between Buck and Redcorn as who is the worst character; Peggy can be awful at times, but there are implications that she had a bad childhood and mental issues that may be contributing to this, and she'll do the right thing once she realizes that she's made a mistake. Redcorn and Buck are just too selfish. The one time that Buck realizes that he's harmed Hank's reputation and tries to save him, somebody else has to remind him, and John Redcorn is deplorable for having multiple love children that he's abandoned throughout Arlen, with no concern for how this will affect them as he tries to worm his way back into their lives.

    • @balanc-joy9187
      @balanc-joy9187 3 года назад +8

      Don't forget Buck tried to, and got away with trying to, frame Hank for murder to protect his wife in "High Anxiety"
      Also, from what I understand, John Redcorn didn't really abandon Joseph or Kate (the only two love children shown and known about) so much as just not know about Kate's existence and with Joseph the implication seems to be he just let Nancy and Dale raise Joseph, while remaining an unofficial part of his life. Not to say I don't get why people don't like him, I personally just don't care much because I see his whole existence as one long joke based around Dale's paranoia and the irony of him having a cheating wife. That, and Redcorn's ending of the relationship because he grew to respect Dale made me cut him _some_ slack, though his later behavior does muddy it quite a lot, such as "Spin The Choice" (though much later seasons I just ignore, since they outright ignore continuity, like the episode where Nancy loses her hair).

    • @JarethTheGoblinKingForever
      @JarethTheGoblinKingForever 3 года назад +1

      @@balanc-joy9187 That's true; there was at least a bit of character growth for Redcorn. Buck, not really. Redcorn grows up a lot after "Spin the Choice" (until the Big Mountain Fudgecake stuff and the rekindled affair), whereas Buck never changes much. The only reason he patches things up with Miss Liz is that the people around them lead to it, and immediately in the same episode, Buck tries to frame Hank and Miss Liz for murder.
      I was under the impression that Redcorn had more than two children, but I could be wrong. I remember episodes where he was implied to have slept with groupies, and the "Harlottown" episode where he's implied to have been a porn actor, but looking back on it, I can't remember any other pregnancies being implied that he fathered, except for Kate. I might be confusing him with Buck and Ray-Roy.

      @@JarethTheGoblinKingForever You _definitely_ need to re-watch the show. Redcorn is _never_ shown to have slept with groupies (he just worked as a roadie for a band, and Big Mountain Fudgecake never took off), or have been a porn actor.
      As for Buck, he framed _Hank_ for murder to _protect_ Miz Liz, not himself, in fact, he was willing to go to jail himself to protect her once the frame-up didn't work. Of course, he was mistaken that Miz Liz did it in the first place, since Debbie accidentally killed herself, but still.

      @@balanc-joy9187 I don't know... I was under the impression that in "Harlottown", when Redcorn is dressed up in a tuxedo and says he has a "gala" to attend that Hank interrupts, it was implying that he had either acted in porn when he was younger, or that he had worked in the industry somehow. The only people attending the Adult Video Awards who are dressed up fancy are the ones receiving the awards. As for Buck, he did frame Hank, and then later we see him and the sheriff pointing the finger quickly at various other parties, including Miss Liz, only to find out from the texas ranger that Debbie's death was in fact just an accident. Buck goes all the way in framing Hank, planting evidence and recording phrases that make Hank sound like the murderer.

    • @balanc-joy9187

      @@JarethTheGoblinKingForever That seems pretty flimsy reasoning to me to assume Redcorn was heading to the Adult Video Awards, especially since he sees the actors in their car and immediately chooses to take Bobby. If he was involved somehow, wouldn't he say something or react differently then just cancel whatever plans he had once he understood some of what was going on? That, and he would've probably just said it, since everybody else didn't really hide or shy away from going. It didn't seem like to me he was even going there, since he would've probably just said it if he was, or been shown to be expected there. Just saying you could be right, but there isn't much to support that impression that sounds convincing to me.
      As for "High Anxiety", again, you _really_ need to watch the episode again. The Sheriff does point the finger at Buck, then Miz Liz, then Buck falsely confesses to the murder to protect her. Buck only accuses Hank, with all of the things that you mention, and foolishly confesses that he "put the nametag in the bushes" and asks if they "got the tape", in order to try and push that Hank did it.
      Thankfully, I found a video here that shows most of Buck's confession, though it starts after he first tries to accuse Hank-ruclips.net/video/z88Q9j6TdD8/видео.html

      I was always under the impression that Peggy was psychologically a narcissist, with feelings of inadequacy stemming from her mother's mental abuse and her own insecurities about her physical looks and her intellect, in which case, Peggy is never going to change. She can't admit that she's wrong without trying to downplay it to a minor mistake. In her mind, she's always right. I always thought it would've been interesting if they'd actually done an episode where Peggy has to see a therapist to address these things, but the closest they ever got to addressing Peggy's mental problems were episodes like "A Rover Runs Through It" and "Peggy's Pageant Fever". I'm conflicted between hating Peggy and feeling sorry for her. She's pretentious and spiteful, but at the same time pathetic and desperate. It's interesting how a cartoon character can be so human; the flaws make them more relatable. As much as none of us want to admit it, we've probably all had a "Peggy" moment where we behaved or thought like she did.

    I always enjoy your analysis on characters and plot by plot progressions of characters. I enjoy your take on this episode (I'm normally Pro Peggy but this was executed poorly even with her best intentions) and it made me reassess my annoyances with Lucky. He's part of a trend where writers like a character(Tom Petty said he would come back anytime) and try to justify their inclusion into random plots for no reason by pairing them with teenaged, barely young adult women as a love interest (Haley from American Dad and the Reginald Saga for example). The character canon wise is 38, so as old as Hank and Peggy and possibly Luanne's Father. He does have a lot of negative qualities, despite his "code" tends to mooch off and take stuff from the Hills without asking after the marriage so he doesn't have to pay for stuff but claims he thought it was OK because their family . But this episode focuses on his attempts to improve his life, even if Luanne is the offscreen plot device inspiration, and he does deserve not to be backstabbed. He also started becoming "The 5th Alley Guy " in later seasons since at least Dale liked him.
    I think Lucky and Luanne fully believed that you can only attempt to get your GED once. I also believe Lucky and Luanne conceived their child in the Hill home and that was never remarked on. I would love to see you review the first episode that Lucky and Luanne get together, since Peggy was in full Mama Bear mode to protect Luanne from Lucky once she realized he was interested in her and dropping by/ nonchalantly vandalizing the house while Luanne's at work/during date nights in the driveway. He also encouraged Luanne to fight Peggy prison style if she doesn't let them date and Luanne was about to do it with a straight face because "He reminds her of the trailer park people she grew up around" i.e. he reminds her of the dysfunctional life she was running from when she came to stay with the Hills. She had anxiety about even living in a trailer in season 2, and was generally on a more independent path in seasons 2 through 5. I blame the writers, but if Lucky was a drop by character for project stuff I feel like he would be better suited to the cast.
    More or less, Luanne is the main breadwinner with the Manger Babies and hairstyling. They end up buying a house on Rainey Street with Hank's mentorship about Lucky's last $5,000 so they're stable and have a support system. Lucky more or less survives on settlements and does whatever he wants all day, but I can see him being a devoted stay at home dad to Gracie. And he does make Luanne happy and is supportive so he's not all bad.

The short version is someone was pretty much sabotaging me at work, and the person who was doing it was one of my assistant managers. The only difference is the assistant manager was eventually caught and fired. The situation isn't exactly the same but like Lucky, I was taken advantage of by someone I trusted.
