I think a way to make Rex's backstory less convoluted is for him to be a repeated emmet minifigure instead of time travel, there could even be a plot twist where the emmet we follow through the movie wasn't the original one
Excellent analysis as always!!! YES! Agreed that the message of the sequel is off and should have addressed gender stereotyping. Especially since this is something Lego is trying to change in their products (launching Lego Dreamzzz and finally making a Friends set with only male Minidoll characters!) I worked in a Lego store for a few years and for the first time saw both boys and girls asking their parents for a Friends set. Good stuff (especially since the Friends theme runs CIRCLES around City). I found your analysis of how the humor varies in the two films very interesting. I noticed that the sequel relies more on pop-culture references (Bruce Willis in an air duct, Adam West Batman) while the original movie sticks primarily to timeless comedy. This is another reason why found the first movie so memorable but not its sequel. If you already highlighted this difference, I apologize for being redundant! Thank you for the superb content and for struggling through the RUclips algorithm to share your analysis!
I think I would’ve liked the sequel more if they used the dystopian theme to flesh out Lucy’s character. Have it so that the dystopian theme was the sister’s wish fulfillment. Maybe have Lucy feel like she doesn’t have her own identity aside from being Emmet’s girlfriend so she goes on her own personal journey to find herself. Finn is the one who keeps trying to use the kiddy blocks because he wants to go back to when they’d play together and his sister would let him lead. Have it so that when they were little Bianca was just along for the ride but as she grew and became more independent Finn started pushing her away if she didn’t play how he wanted.
One thing in particular that I don’t like about this movie is how President Business is reduced to an annoying afterthought who’s barely around, because that kind of goes against his character arc in the first movie. I know it's supposed to be funny joke about how dads just stand on the sidelines and let their kids sort out their beef, but it still doesn’t feel right after hearing Emmet’s speech and their reconciliation from the first movie. I don’t know about you, but someone who the main character referred to as the most important, most talented, and most interesting person in the universe should have a bigger role in the continuation of the story. Like you could have the conflict between Finn and his sister, but you could also have Dad in a supporting role worrying that he’s not doing the best he can as a father, which can be reflected in President Business worrying that he’s not being a good leader. And near the end of the film you could have the characters realize that it all started with him, and that all of their ideas and creations happened because Finn was inspired by his dad and in turn Finn’s sister was inspired by him.
I think he's not in the movie much simply because Will Ferrell wasn't available to do more than a couple of lines and they didn't want to recast him, it didn't feel like an organic decision to cut him off most of the movie.
Although it didn't perform well, that's actually pretty understandable as it had httyd 3 to compete with at the time, but it's story still holds up, the songs are great, the writing just as hilarious as the first film, but the problem is that it had to be better than the first movie, or on its level. The movie's great on its own, it just had high standards to compare to. (I mean, Pixar certainly liked it as they stole the plot and used it for lightyear, so that's something I guess.)
I thought people didn't go to watch it because of the oversaturation of Lego movies at the time, but looking at the release dates, the only off release dates were lego batman and ninjago, which released in the same year for some reason. I legitimately love this film (didn't go to watch it in the cinema, because I assumed it would suffer from sequelitis), I love it more than the original, but now I'm wondering what it is that makes me prefer it. I felt like the gender stuff did get addressed and was a major theme in the film, but maybe my brain was filling out blanks again. I'll have to rewatch it to answer my own questions. I agree. Super cool is a great song. I listened to it when studies were getting me down or even now, if I'm feeling blue. Helps me to perk up.
I am one of the like two people who unironically liked this movie. (and yes, believe it or not, you are able to like things even if they aren't considered "good")
😮 Yess agreed!! I love the 2nd movie. So many songs right in my music taste. Stupidly hilarious jokes. I don't really like the 1st movie much. Edit: Benny is my favourite character, if he was removed from the 2nd movie I would have been heart broken, the same way The Secret Life of Pets 2 taking away the hawk guy did.

Or they could’ve made him Emmet’s long lost twin, I used to do that all the time with my dolls.
I think I've finally got a version which the copyright bot is okay with! 24th time's the charm?
Hopefully

27:06 they kind of did. That’s why they made Rex the bad guy. So retroactively a lot of the things he was doing is questioned to be bad…..

"It should be about gender."
My honest reaction:(record scratch)

Omg I really recently discovered your channel and love it! This was a great friday surprise!
So basically Fin should have had a subplot that matched the movie better

Same, it's better than the first one imo
11:36 DID YOU PUT AN AD HERE ON PURPOSE??? A+ video design
yo i see you !!! ace pride
wait the lego movie was 10 years ago?!!!! Frick im old
This video is really good! Deserves more likes
Please, if its possible, talk about Lego Monkie Kid, is equally as good as ninjago, or at least, its a serie than deserve more visibility 🙏🙏🙏
It's better than Ninjago imo :)
16:13 I think it’s just showing that he has decided to stop playing with the goofy house ship and upgrade to the cooler bro fist ship. That’s all
1:15 of course, just like the emoji movie
Wait, there was a sequel?
My goodness women your fits are just perfect!! And that remix is whack!
What is it with 2019 sequels and missing the mark?
The other one I’m referring to is The Angry Birds Movie 2… I hate that movie so much
Toy Story 4 was extremely unnecessary and it doesn’t help that we’re getting a 5th movie. 4 is one of Pixar’s worst movies
Very good video. I have a love hate relationship with this movie. I think it had the potential to be way better than the first one.
Hol up, wait a minute, this ain’t Ninjago??
My most unpopular opinion the Lego movie 2 is way better than the first Lego movie, underrated as heck

@PrincessKittymeow-mt4yr it's true
Heck yeah, same
For me, the first movie was kinda... there, somewhere
