I think the best way I've heard it put is "It's a good Lego movie, but not a good Ninjago movie."

Why does no one talk about Spinjitzu being COMPLETELY absent from the Movie??? That's so weird!
There is only one Instance of a side character showing up in the background, and that is Ed&Edna.
I literally saw NO ONE ELSE and that's sad...
I really like the Ninjago Movie tho

I knew the movie so much better than the show long ago and when I started watching the show all the way through properly, I was so confused about what Spinjitzu was, but in the movie they do mention Spinjitzu when Wu takes Lloyd to the boat near the start and left the others practising Spinjitzu for 3 hours and to read his book

I honestly think this movie would have had better reception if they gave the other ninja more focus and actually...made them characters, cause it only really focuses on lloyd, garmy and wu, (and kind of coco) and in a series where the main point is the ninja and their relationship with each other, not only does the lack of screentime make fans mad, it means that new audiences don't have more likeable characters to gravitate too

I always find it weird that Cole was a DJ. Especially since he had a strained relationship to the performing arts. Like he moved past it but Cole had like a lot of issues about singing and dancing. Making him of all people a DJ when he's the equivalent of a Dance Moms kid that was slightly traumatised and was put off performing because of the whole ordeal and his parent pushing him... Like... why COLE of all people?

I remember seeing the trailer for the first time as a kid and being like "Oh cool! The high school idea is interesting, I would love to see how the ninja interact in that environment and how they work as secret heroes" and then they just...barely have the ninja interact in general and hardly do ANYTHING with the whole high school thing 😭

I would claim that the characters are all flanderized, when a character is reduced to Single trait, but they just gave them all a single random character trait which they never had in the show?
I mean Cole is kinda based in the movie but since when is he a DJ.

Honestly, my biggest gripe with the fandom is how *agressive* some of the fans can be when it comes to change in literally any capacity.
The smallest change sends the fandom into chaos. Its like that one meme where the pizza delivery man walks in to see fire in several places and chaos.
Several fans trash talk about the movie and seasons 8 and up and the fans of those respectively, to the point where It's toxic.
I'm not saying that people can't have opinions, in fact, i heavily encourage people to do so! If you prefer S 0-7, absolutely go for it!
But theres a point where fans take it too far and become insanely agressive. They regard thier favorite era to factually be the best, and the other era to immediately be trash.
The whole "old vs new ninjago" thing is honestly really tiring.
I prefer Seasons 8 and up simply because I like the aesthetics and character relatability. I really like seasons 1 and up as well, and the Comedy in the Old Ninjago era was absolute GOLD, but it's not my *preference* of era.
I don't tgink Old Ninjago is trash at all, because it isn't. It simply comes down to personal preference on aesthetics, storytelling, and character design.
    And thats ok!
What's not ok is insulting other fans and calling them "trash" or "not real fans" because they have a differing opinion than you on what season/era they like.

Theme song change (for Dragons Rising)
      Shorter episodes (fixed now)
      Less mature (fixed now)
No Airjitzu or elemental dragons (at least without explanation)
So yeah its just the theme song and abilities missing

13:16 Because it is! They had the actors record alone for around a year and then they came together and played off each other. So scenes like Garmadon and Lloyd in the crater did feel like they went on for a while.
18:00 Mother Doomsday is actually in the movie! He has a total of 4 seconds of screen time in the background of some shots.
18:21 Sam Vincent and Kirby Morrow both have lines in the movie!
18:31 Before the 2015 rewrite, there were Snake villains! In the final movie they battle Garmadon's Skulkin army in the flashback.
18:48 In the late 2016 script, The Lost City of Generals had several different animal themed armies (cows, bears, dogs, ladybugs, bees, cats, chickens, flies, foxes and many others) that he fired over the years + the recent Shark Generals.
19:26 5 Ninjas and a Samurai didn't work plot/marketing wise, so they changed it. But this change meant the other canon had to follow, which is why Nya becoming a Ninja is forced and unjustified in the show.
20:26 Elemental Powers was a very late addition. Sometime after the first trailer released was a test screening with a kid related to one of the movie's crew members, and the kid had seen the show so he gave input on things that should've been there like elemental powers.

I, for one, oddly enjoyed the movie upon a rewatch I did in December of last year. It certainly has its flaws, but the aesthetic and character moments weirdly satisfied me.
Too bad all of those character moments were exclusively for Lloyd and Garmadon, and all of the other ninja were just pushed to the side.

I might be biased, as I really love sea creatures, but I think giving garmadon the shark army was a good move. It made for sets that were quite different from anything we've had before for ninjago. I'm glad they didn't just do more snake vehicles or generic evil darkness vehicles. I assume they did this to make his army more unique for the sake of the sets and the movie. Also it fits well location-wise considering the very tropical, nature-focused locations in the film.

This is a film that I am alright with, but I feel like people should watch it with the mentality that it is a *LEGO* movie and separate it from Ninjago (The Show). Even if we all lost our minds when we saw the Movie Designs in Season 8 when that was revealed, I think we can all agree that SOG was a glow up from HoT.

I didn't see the movie when it came out (I hadn't seen Ninjago in several years and just didn't have any interest from what I saw in the trailers). I actually watched the entire series, which ended in Seabound at the time (having before only seen the pilots, season 1, and one episode from season 2) before seeing the movie.
And I really liked the movie, but if I had been a fan at the time, I probably would have been worried that the show would drastically change to better fit the movie world than the show world.
I think it's nice that the two aren't super connected. It also works a bit in universe for the Lego movie world because I can assume that the Ninjago show exists in the human world used as a framing device and Jackie Chan's character has only seen small portions of it. So, he uses what he can remember (the ninjas' powers, some of their personality traits, Wu, Garmadon, Lloyd being the green ninja, and him having to fight his father) to tell the story to the kid.
I do wish there were more references to the show sprinkled throughout, though. That would've been cool.

  • @lasercraft32

At first I HATED the redesign, mostly because the characterization of all the characters in the movie SUCKS... But ironically the new designs do still fit their voices and personalities pretty well, despite those designs being made for (basically) completely different personalities. The show managed to make it work, and now I consider them huge improvements from the old slightly-generic designs from the earlier seasons.

  • @Andiewhyte2149

I honestly like the movie more than the show, but there is actually 4 Easter eggs in the movie referencing the show, 2 when Lloyd asked Wu about different powers he could have, he said "Can I be gold?" And "Wind isn't taken, can I be wind?" So is it referring to season 2-3 with the gold powers and season 5 with Morro possessing Lloyd and with Morro being the elemental master of wind?
The 3rd is when it has Garmadon finding Koko with his Skeleton army, like in season 1 when he had the Skeletons fighting the Serpentine. And lastly the 4th, the credit song, it claims to be Lloyd in the lyrics, THEN one line said "I'm throwing caution to the wind, to the wind yeah"
Again with the Wind Boi, Morro? 😏
Edit: Near the start, before Wu took Lloyd to the boat, he told the others to practice *Spinjitzu* for 3 hours and to read his book on being a ninja. So Spinjitzu is at least mentioned i guess

Ik s7 was a thing that same year, but if they went with the og concept of Lloyd saving his dad from becoming the evil warlord he is and in a way adapting the earlier plots that were basically derived from the TV show but rejected then it would have done better

  • @starterking

I didn't really expect the movie to be like the show mostly since i knew it was going to be a lego movie not a Ninjago movie, so you know a kid playing with his dad. Still would have liked more references and garmadon's double body thing just looked weird but i know that is accurate to his lego figure so i couldn't complain.

  • @analyzgolden7774
    @analyzgolden7774 Год назад +1

I have no problem with the movie, an alternate universe with its own rules, changing certain aspects about certain characters. In fact, it would be interesting to see a new take. Cole wholeheartedly trying to follow in his dad's footsteps since day one? Nya being the one of the two siblings with the responsibility? The ninja's identities being a secret? There's ideas here I am open to.
The problem is that you expect this version of the story to feel completed? Feel well realized? Focus on these characters? Because it doesn't. That's the problem with the movie. It wants to tell its own story but doesn't even put together said story, and it leaves you with a lot of unanswered questions. We don't even know how these ninja got together or became the ninja for FSM sake!

I feel like the Lego Ninjago movie would of been better if they actually fleshed out the Ninja better. Now that's not me saying they should revert back into their show counterparts, it's that all of the Ninja apart from Lloyd basically function as one character and because of that these versions don't get to shine in the movie because they chose to focus on Lloyd and Garmadon's relationship.

  • @Crystal_2224
    @Crystal_2224 8 месяцев назад

I know no one liked the movie because of the lack of writing but there were some things that the show didn’t have which Lloyd’s mom Koko is a supportive mother, friendship, and father-son bonding moments. I wished that Lloyd and Garmadon would had the time to spend time before the final episode.
It seems that Universal has the rights to Legos with means it could change for Ninjago Movie or make a sequel except not too many comedy and focus on the story.

Hey! I really enjoyed listening to this because I certainly hated the movie and it was because it was nothing like the show, Even the town was nothing like it I kept asking where is Borg Tower? Where are those other places??? I remember I was so excited to watch this movie back in 2020 because I never got a chance to watch it in 2017. and When I watched it I regretted it because I thought it would be similar to the show. I am not sure if season 8 changed because of the movie because I thought it was because of the Hands Of Time and how the ninja kept searching for Wu for years and that is why they have changed. I don't know if The Movie and Season 8 are connected, because it doesn't sound like it is, season 8 and 7 do connect (In my opinion) I think it is great.
There are more complaints about this movie and most of it doesn't make any sense and Garmadon's Personality doesn't suit that well, it is just so weird and now I am just going to skip the movie and go straight into season 8 after season 7 since I think they connect!

I will never unterstand the hate this movie get's. It sureally is not a masterpiece, but it's not so bad that I can hate it. It is Just okay.
But that doesn't mean that I am not disapointed.
This movie had two major things to archive
    1. Being a good LEGO movie
    2. Being a good NINJAGO movie
And it failed at both miserably. I agree with the people who like the Alternative Story more, I had more fun and felt more emotional with watching this one deleted scene were Lloyd Talks to his younger father than watching the whole movie. I will never understand how the people who worked on this movie had such great ideas and then decided to put them in the trashcan.
It's also realy crazy how the Show respects the movie more then the movie cared about the show
