I’ve seen a few good script checkpoint twist villains, especially in JRPGs. The trick is they work best when they appear at checkpoints to help ensure the plot stays on track. Whenever the protagonists start to learn too much, get side tracked, reach an impasse, or do anything else to hinder the evil plan the twist villain will regularly appear to push them back on track until the protagonist has served their use.
My favorite part about Rex being a time-travelling twist vilain is that you can guess it from the moment you see his ship It's shaped like a fist. And only Emmet knows what a human hand looks like

Can I point out how meta it is that Rex Dangervest, who like Emmet (for reasons) is voiced by Chris Pratt, has a crew of Velociraptors? Clearly the team working on Lego Movie 2 watched and enjoyed Jurassic World.
Rex Dangervest was supposed to be a parody of multiple different characters that Chris Pratt played over the years; watch his introductory reels over and match each scene to a role on his IMDB page
The only reason I disliked this movie was Emmet's incompetence. He felt less competent than in the first movie despite having grown after his adventure. If that was not the case I would've loved this movie as much as the first one. My problem isn't his incompetence in general. He was very incompetent in the first movie and it was part of his character. Yet I expected the person who changed the world to have learned something along the way.
Something else you forgot to mention: Lucy is another good example of someone who went through a “dark age”. She tries her best to pretend that she’s tough, not only to protect others, but to protect herself from criticism. To do this, she herself had to step away from everything she liked. (Heck, she even had a band! …I guess that kind of explains why she was the first one to sing “not everything is awesome”
Never went through any real "dark age" myself, but I absolutely still loved the Lego Movie 2. The false ending was the only time I'd ever actually been fooled into thinking that someone would actually break the trope and leave a dark ending.
I saw the Lego Movie twice (the second time in the form of a 2-hour youtube ad for the second movie, which was a surreal experience,) and the second part once. When I saw it I immediately told my friend I liked it even more than the first one, and he was surprised. Especially when I said liked Everything's Not Awesome a lot more than its first film counterpart. The whole thing just feels more down to earth and real, in that way that only well executed fantasy can. I guess it just really hit me in the feels in a way the first one didn't, as the youngin's would say. Are the youngin's still saying that?
Just like this movie, LEGO City Undercover has a twist-villian. However onlike with the movie, the game makes it so olvious that they're the bad guy that I guess you can call them a parody on the hole twist-villian trope.

So it still comes as a suprise that he's actually a threat Look it's really hard to explain without spoiling it
The main issue I had with the second lego movie was it kinda just ignored the first movie in a lot of ways. Like for example it basically ignores the character development of President Business and just has him leave within the first minute of the movie. He could have been a very entertaining character in the second movie but nope, he just left for a cheap joke. Also why dose emmet all the sudden have such an aversion to building dangerous things after he built a giant combat mech in the first movie? I also didn’t like the musical aspect of the film. That’s more a personal preference take but I feel like the musical aspect doesn’t fit as much.
I went through a dark age at about 13, thankfully I've escaped that and can happily say that I find happiness spending some of my paychecks on Lego, sure it might be immature to be spending some of my hard earned revenue on a toy but I really enjoy it, and the sheer amount of more adult Lego sets really just make it feel like it's for everyone
Yeah. Spending money on a much bigger toy like motorcycle (that can actually kill you) is so much more mature. Fishing equipment too - after all having hobbies that include fun is forbidden for mature people - you should be content with staring on the water.
I come Agree with you,in my opinion Lego Movie 2 the Second Part is my favorite of the Lego Flim,it Colorful,it has Heart and Soul,it's Funnier,it has a Powerful Message about 2 Siblings Bonding with Each Other,it's so emotional that it can make you have a few Tears,it's a reflection of how Legos were treated and just because you ast Childish and Different,it doesn't mean you can be Mature and Immature, the Catchy Song is 100% better than Everything is Awesome, the Characters were amazing, and it has a fantastic Twist that it's so Great that I didn't see it Coming,it's a shame this Movie didn't receive that well because this was a Fun Movie with alot of Relatable Moments, maybe one day we will see a Lego Flim, all we can do is hope and pray,Great Review 4shame,this Movie really needs alot of Love and Attention.
I adored this movie because I grew up with siblings and Legos and remember the fights and yelling mothers that it spawned. My husband was less fond of the movie because his sisters didn't play with Legos. I think this movie really hits the core memories of people who played with Legos with their siblings.
There's also a good theme about family appreciation and sharing hobbies. Older siblings tend to influence their younger siblings, and usually that tends to make the older sibling dislike their previous hobby, which can also be how Rex was made. The younger sister at the earliest time didn't know how to build with their brother, but he did spark her creativity, but without being guided, in his eyes she was destroying his hobby, and down the line took it out on her because siblings don't really understand the true effect they have on each other... When I was younger, I loved playing those shooter games with my older brother. There was an obvious skill gap as I'd fall into every one of his traps, but it never stopped me. My younger older brother and I fought a lot, but we made bonds over Player Vs Computer games, like Resident Evil 5 and Borderlands 2. At one point I got tired of being forced to play games with them but they got to always play single player games. Then, I got tired of playing alone. I think I just wanted the opportunity to play a single player game with them around. I loved watching my older brother play Dead Island, running across the map in seconds and cutting enemies in half, or Dead Rising 2, creating uniquely dumb weapons beating psychos and zombies with high effectiveness. I think at those times where I was upset not to be allowed playing alone, I just wanted to be like them.
The first is still my favorite because Bad Cop/Good Cop is in it & he's my favorite. He merely had a brief cameo in the sequel, & that disappoints me a bit. Still, I was smiling a bunch during most of the movie. It had made me super happy; instant serotonin. 🌟
Apparently the best way to keep a secret like that is to shove it right under their nose and wait. They couldn't have been more overt with the "HEY GUYS CHRIS PRATT PLAYS THIS CHARACTER ISN'T THAT COOL" and that's the _point_
My personal Dark Age was regarding Sonic the Hedgehog. I watched the recent movie with my five year old daughter and she fell in love and I fell *back* in love. And I hope she never feels the need to stop looking childish things. It'd just break my heart ..
I love this movie, it deserves more attention because it isn’t a sequel where the creators shoves some random plot out of nowhere, but it actually continues where first movie left of.And Rex is just amazing, and I know he’s emmet, but that’s why he’s a great villain, we never got to see this side of emmet.
My dark age is the part where I realized I don't have enough Lego pieces to build things I wanted like a Lego transformer or a modular arcade, that's the part where I realized whats the point if you don't even have the pieces to build such things which was discouraging so I moved on well not in the "oh i wanna be cool", I moved on to another interest that allowed me to be creative without any limitations, that being Minecraft where i spent 7 years playing and majority was spent practicing how to build in creative. I miss my Lego years, I wish i could get back to it but the limitations and overall the fact that I can't afford to buy Lego makes me sad.
I just want to say, I’m so glad you see this movie for what it is. The LEGO Movie 2 and Rex Dangervest, specifically, has been my special interest for three years. I was so tired of people online saying that I chose the wrong interest. And the worst movie. Great video! ^.^
After watching the second movie I literally cried and the end scene where Rex disappears really got me emotional it’s so sad to see such an amazing franchise stop existing I hope we’ll be able to get more Lego movies that are good like this franchise
10:23 it does make me wonder what a movie would be like about removing yourself from things that actually are toxic. Like there are things you think you like but, actually you really shouldn't, and they are causing misery in your life, but you think you enjoy them so you feel like you cant escape them. I cant think of a good specific example but my mind was drawn to the concept. I mean traditionally addictive things is obvious, like social media, alcohol, smoking, etc, but what about things you dont notice? That arent so obvious?
I loved the fact that rex's ship said 16+ and how finn was more than likely about that age in the movie, because when the movie came out, I was 16. I remember having a tub of Lego bricks that I still have now, a few sets added since then but still. After I finished the movie, it got me wanting to build stuff with them again
I personally liked this movie way more than the first. Like the first one had a better execution of story and plot, but the moral of the story was better in the second. The first one is just "oh being creative is good thing :P" which most people should already know by now.
I feel like the ONLY problem I actually had with this movie was that Rex wasn’t Clutch Powers, then I changed my mind as the whole future emmet twist was revealed. I’m astonished it was considered a flop, I loved it :/
"Not Evil" is probably my favorite "villain song" of all time, and what makes it even better is the twist that she actually ISN'T evil. Just a terrible communicator.
I have to disagree the second one felt like a meh movie, not bad but not memorable the first one wasn't just a good kid's movie but a great movie overall and it had better use of the LEGO IP because it touched the hardcore fandom vs the kids who plays with them as a toy.
This movie holds a lot of meaning for me since my nephew (who loved the Lego movie) went through his own dark age, although more serious than about toys. I really hope he comes out of it someday. Also, Not Evil is an awesome song.
I worked in a movie theatre when this film came out so I never went to go see it on my own, but whenever I'd pop my head in to check on the theatre I always stayed for like 15 minutes because I got so sucked in, especially when it came to the themes between the brother and sister and how it effected the "toy world". It was really cool and I dont understand why it wasn't received as well
So the first film's theme of 'do what you want and don't follow instructions' is not very LEGO, since it's fitting for any construction toy... but the second film's theme of 'don't stop doing the things you like because of what people will think of you' is very LEGO? Even though it applies neatly to stuff as diverse as cartoons and games?
. . . Oh my God. I never even realized half of these things about this movie let alone how despite all that it did not only worse than the original but did so badly it caused Lego to lose its liscencing with Warner Brothers which is just tragic and infuriating. Also the amount of sheer irony I now know is in this movie is hilarious. Thankfully I'm one of those fewer people who never really went through a Dark Age with Legos. Or at least at age 22 post highschool still haven't yet so let's hope that holds clutch power. Also I too always had faith in Lego to tell great stories and make good Characters. My favorite examples are the original Lego Movie The adventures of Clutch Powers and Hero Factory. Except for it's tragic ending where it's clear that they not only didn't care but didn't even try or take time and that was because a bunch of their leadership in that sub theme who had all worked on themes like Power Miners, Agents, Space Police, Galaxy Squad, or Ultra Agents either left or we're replaced with people who had no experience or just didn't care. And speaking of which, that trivia is both hilarious and amazing (except for the injury parts"no pun intended") And lastly, the fact that you have that Agents Dr. Inferno's Evil Volcano Base and your first Lego set was the Stone Chopper from Power Miners tells me that you have incredibly good taste in their original IPs among other things. I mean, I'd date a guy like that. Then again I'm also gay and part of the Furry Fandom so that would explain a lot as to why my hobbies are so childish and tastes are the way they are. And there's no shame in that. Another certain hobby interest of mine had a Character who taught me something. A very flamboyant, sadistic, Gay, Aston Martin, Robot Surgeon once taught me that I'm always going to be judged and looked at by others. And if I'm going to be looked at as the villain than I'm gonna look damn good doing it and enjoy the hell of a ride that comes with it too. That's what it takes to be a real knock out. 😼👉✨
When I saw trailer, I thought it follows the trend of ghostbusters 2016 and any other hollywood movie at the time. A big feminist "Woman are awesome, man are bad" kind of shit, so avoided this movie for quiet a while. Decided some years later to give it a watch (not sure anymore why, guess cause of youtube clips)... and I was soooo freakin wrong. Honestly would say that this movie was even beter than the first one. Glad I decided to give this one a chance, though it would not surprise me if I was not the only one who avoided the movie because of this horrible trend that sadly keeps going to this day. also heck, they made a time travel story... and it actually was good. WHen was the last time you saw a time travel story in a none time-travel-themed franchise actually be good?
2:50 LEGO Lore guy here. That's a Power Miners set. The plot of Power Miners is the earth experienced a series of tremors and shakes. A team of miners were sent down to investigate. Underground they found a species of Rock Monsters who ate powered crystals. The miners believed the monsters eating the crystals was causing the quakes. The city above also needed a new power source. So the miners began fighting the monsters over the crystals to take them, before they eventually discovered it was one Lava Monster deep underground actually causing the problem, and they made peace with the Rock Monsters. 3:19 I got this one two! It's half built on my shelf right now. The printing on that rubber hair piece was awful and rubbed off almost right away. 6:39 This comment alone makes me hope Makuta Teridax returns in one of the future films. Given it's under Illumination now, odds are they wouldn't be as heartfelt as before, but the 2001 version of Teridax might just be the best villain LEGO has ever churned out and I'd love to see him return. Funny enough, I never had a *true* LEGO Dark age. From like 2013-2014 I didn't really buy any LEGO or obsess over it, but I still kept up with new release info and asked for them as Christmas Presents. That's the closest I got. Now that LEGO is going through a massive price hike I might be entering another partial dark age. I still plan on buying used sets and loose parts on Bricklink, but I don't think I'm going to get nearly as much of the stuff that's actually on shelves as I have in the past. I'm right there with you that this movies funnier than the first, but here's my personal ranking' LEGO Movie Batman Movie LEGO Movie 2 Ninjago Movie With the first two films what sets them apart is their love for the source material. If you're a LEGO fan there's a lot of cool stuff to spot in the first film, and if you're a Batman fan there's a lot of cool stuff in the TLBM. The LEGO Movie 2's references to LEGO's past more or less stop at stuff the original had, Brickheadz, and Fabuland. All the other references they make are to things LEGO never actually made products for like Hot Tub Time Machine or Die Hard, or stuff they did make sets for that were licensed like Scooby-Doo and Back to the Future. The Ninjago Movie barley makes any nods to the Ninjago franchise, and unlike TLM2 it doesn't have fantastic humor or a (comparatively) interesting plot to back it up. Personally I'd still say TLM, TLM2, and TLBM are all great movies and Ninjago Movie is a good movie, but TLM and TLBM are what I'm truly looking for from this franchise.
@@stegaknight901 Are you seriously going to be this way? Get out of here and let people watch what they want to watch. You are acting like those people who were freaking out over the emoji movie (which in my opinion is way worse)
I wasn't as big a fan of the sequel (the beginning drags on and spends a bit too much time in the Mad Max world before getting into the main plot), but it did have me hooked by the end and the twist was genuinely awesome. However now I see that the reason I couldn't relate is because I never once had that desire to throw away any of my Lego sets. Not once. I just bought the bigger, "adult" ones that he mentions at the beginning (95% of mine are Star Wars)
Honestly, I also very much enjoyed the second movie even more than the first. So when I found out it didn't sit well with a lot of people, I was sorta dumbfounded. Also as soon as i saw this video, the phantom that is "this song is going to get stuck in side your head" has come back. Now I need another week to forgot it :)
I think I like how they had stuff for most LEGO genres displayed. For example, as a JW fan, the thing I liked most was the raptors scenes. They missed a trick since they didn’t use Minecraft, but maybe it was a copyright issue or would just not fit in.
While I agree that The LEGO Movie 2 is criminally underrated, I disagree the first movie doesn't have a very compelling message to LEGO fans specifically. The message of the first one is that there is no wrong way to play with LEGO. The movie is fundamentally a conflict between the two types of LEGO enthusiasts - those who like to follow the instructions and just look at their perfectly assembled sets on a shelf, and those who just tear apart their sets and mix and match parts to create their own worlds. And these two kinds of enthusiasts often don't understand each other or even look down on each other. And despite the film having a clear villain on one side in Lord Business and clear heroes in the Master Builders on the other side, the film ultimately takes no side - Emmet tells Lord Business the things he creates are great too. The movie tells you that whether you follow the instructions or create your own, you can do great things.
personally i have less of a "dark age" and more so realize I HAVE NO MORE ROOM FOR LEGO! single story house ~20x20 feet and Warhammer 40k taking up just as much room, if not more. ifi ever had more space i would kick it back into gear but room=0 right now.
SPOILERS FOR LIGHTYEAR Ok Lightyears twist is literally the same as this movies, and it came out 3 years after this movie. So Disney ripped off The Lego Move 2: The Second Part’s twist.
I was a massive fan of Legos and I still very much have a soft spot in my heart for them. I would get a lot of Lego sets, I would create a lot of things from my own creativity, I would see what other people used Lego pieces for and I would try to integrate that into designs of my own. Some of my favorite Lego memories include: creating a Vulture Droid by studying what pieces it was using and making it from scratch, making a huge mechanical spider, making a robot with 2 machine guns for hands, and making a big skeleton Minotaur wielding a magic scepter. I sadly lost interest with legos years ago but I’ve still that creative drive and I’ve integrated it into video game ideas, making 3D models, 2D art, and pixel art. I will forever be grateful to legos for helping channel my creativity and imagination.
I'm going through the dark age right now, but not for social exeptance or "getting babes". I still think that Lego is cool, I have a friend with a ton of Lego, and I'm still a geek in a way (god knows my shelf with comics and figurines will be the proof to that). But I dropped Lego as soon as I found out HOW GODDAMN EXPENSIVE IT IS. I mean, I'd much rather buy something like minecraft and build things digitally than spend double my paycheck on a new set that I'll disassemble for parts shortly after building it.
Imma be honest I unintentionally follow the message of this movie of "Never letting go of what you truly love." This is mainly because what I love is what makes me who I truly am. I don't want to give up my love of video games and collecting video game character plushies and toys in favor of trying to be someone I'm not. Hell I fucking miss my Lego Dimensions set after a year or 2 of throwing them away... I'm sad :(
I feel like over time we will have that snowball effect where people will start to see the Lego Movie 2 as a masterpiece of a film. I believe people just had there bars way to high for this movie.
3:44 yeah that was me. Gave up on Lego at about 2011, just as I was about to finish elementary school. Sold a bunch of legos, but decided to keep a few. It helped that I had an ass tone as a kid, so I still had a few dozen sets lying around even after I sold some. Took till 2021 when I bought the Emilia Airheart set as I was a history nerd and wanted it so bad. Ever since then I have become a Legoaholic where I received/ purchased myself 8 sets in 2022.
I've hoarded all my legos since childhood, had 2 tupperware bins filled with them, still have one gave the other to a cousin so he could enjoy the fun. Best toys ever.
You can't forget another big theme: the responsibilities of an older sibling. Wether you are even aware of it or not, younger siblings attach themselves to you, they look up to you and want to be like you. I only watched this movie today after all these years, and I'm actually glad I waited, because now I fully understand that message, as it applies to me. For anyone having read so far into this comment, thank you. I had to search up "lego movie 2 reviews" so I'd have a place to say this lol
Totally agree LEGO Movie 2 is vastly underrated unpopular opinion it's my favourite of the 4 LEGO movies. Catchy Song is such a masterpiece and I particularly related to the Finn learning to share with his sister conflict having a younger sister myself!
I'm glad to say I've never fallen into a "dark age" not technically at least. I got a but distracted by another hobby and didn't buy to many sets for a little over a year but I've got right back into things lately.
I despise people who hate on sequels because it didin't give them goosebumps like they got in thier childhood when they had no expectations. The two Lego movies are literally the same quality for me
Rex is also just a never-ending reference on Chris Pratt's career; Fist-shaped ship, he was Star-Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy. Army of raptors- i'd call that a Jurassic World reference. Energy drink diet- did he have one on Parks and Rec?
A good hint of foreshadowing is rex's eyes are just black dots just like emmet As the other characters have slight hylights on the tip of there eye except emmet hinting at the time travel twist Also I you slow down the sequence where he builds a time travel machine you can multiple references including back to the future and terminator
I think this movie did lack in execution to some extent, but I can definitely see its good qualities now. My theory is that this is a classic case of too much control from marketing and production, since the movie had a franchise (specifically a kid's franchise) to build upon unlike its prequel.

(Heck, she even had a band! …I guess that kind of explains why she was the first one to sing “not everything is awesome”
They could've revealed Lucy to be a bit close-minded and bigoted towards other types of LEGO including the Systar system
@@KaminoKatie ?????????
Never went through any real "dark age" myself, but I absolutely still loved the Lego Movie 2.
The false ending was the only time I'd ever actually been fooled into thinking that someone would actually break the trope and leave a dark ending.
I fell for it, too, to be honest.
Wait, how exactly does the game make it obvious who the twist-villain is? I only discovered that only during the reveal.
@@outcast4087 ohh IDK.. The fact that (not saying their for spoiler reasons) REDACTED always ends their phrases sinisterly, the fact that evil music acompaneys them and their design just SCREAMS "I'm an evil person"
@@spouwnerring Huh, didn't notice that. I watched playthrough of this game in a different language than English, and I guess localisation got rid of those hints.
@@outcast4087 They hide it really well by making pretty much every other side character as over-the-top as he is to the point he just blends in with all the other wacky side-characters. Look it's really hard to explain without spoiling it
3:38 what’d you mean?
All the chicks love the Lego Volcano base set 8637
The main issue I had with the second lego movie was it kinda just ignored the first movie in a lot of ways. Like for example it basically ignores the character development of President Business and just has him leave within the first minute of the movie. He could have been a very entertaining character in the second movie but nope, he just left for a cheap joke. Also why dose emmet all the sudden have such an aversion to building dangerous things after he built a giant combat mech in the first movie? I also didn’t like the musical aspect of the film. That’s more a personal preference take but I feel like the musical aspect doesn’t fit as much.
Emmet pretty much just became Homura in the second movie
The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part literally starts right where the first one ends.
@@muddashucka9743 that's irrelevant, President business still wasn't included in the movie and for that 3 out of 5
@@GrandGurple That's because he went off to play golf.
@@muddashucka9743 yea which was quite out of character of him tbh. He wasn’t ever one to stray away from his business. Pun intended.
Rex genuinely caught me off guard as the twist villain because typically the character who saves and mentors the protagonist is usually the hero.
That fact that no one theorized that Rex was Emmet from the future despite the looking so obvious with the similarities is mind blowing.
Nearly 17 now and I've got back into Lego not playing with physical legos but playing Lego Games and watching Lego Movies
The biggest mistake of the developers was making President Business a joke having 1 minute of screen time in the whole movie.
I mean that was pretty funny
and?
I just want to say, I’m so glad you see this movie for what it is. The LEGO Movie 2 and Rex Dangervest, specifically, has been my special interest for three years. I was so tired of people online saying that I chose the wrong interest. And the worst movie. Great video! ^.^
I just felt that The LEGO Movie 2 is a huge mountain of wasted and lost potential
Too bad that song and the movie itself is forever tarnished given what's currently going on with Tiffany Haddish

I have to disagree the second one felt like a meh movie, not bad but not memorable the first one wasn't just a good kid's movie but a great movie overall and it had better use of the LEGO IP because it touched the hardcore fandom vs the kids who plays with them as a toy.
This film deserves attention for the queen’s songs alone
This movie holds a lot of meaning for me since my nephew (who loved the Lego movie) went through his own dark age, although more serious than about toys. I really hope he comes out of it someday.
Also, Not Evil is an awesome song.
I didn’t know Rex’s spaceship looked like a fist
4:02 I feel personally called out
i personally loved this movie as i watched the lego movie as a kid, my fav part was the "everything is not awesome" song XD
. . . Oh my God.
I never even realized half of these
things about this movie let alone how despite all that it did not only worse than the original but did so badly it caused Lego to lose its liscencing with Warner Brothers which is just tragic and infuriating.
And speaking of which, that trivia is both hilarious and amazing (except for the injury parts"no pun intended")
And lastly, the fact that you have that Agents Dr.

I felt that they should've have Lucy be revealed to be a bit closed-minded and bigoted towards other types of LEGO like Poppy in Trolls World Tour
finally, someone who recognizes this movie for the masterpiece it is!
Well, it's not Lightyear.
Yup, way better imo
Clutch powers will always be the best Lego movie and nobody can convince me otherwise.

I'm right there with you that this movies funnier than the first, but here's my personal ranking'
LEGO Movie
Batman Movie
LEGO Movie 2
Ninjago Movie
With the first two films what sets them apart is their love for the source material.
I didn’t even know there was a second Lego movie.
@@stegaknight901 Are you seriously going to be this way? Get out of here and let people watch what they want to watch.

I just realised I got anger clickbaited, and I'm fine with that.
Nah the movie was mid. Not a bad argument though
My favorite part is just how on the nose Rex's dialog is. The Convenient Plot Device joke is the best part of the movie
I mostly like this movie because of the song ‘not evil’, but still like this movie as a whole.
The space queen has some great songs.
I think I like how they had stuff for most LEGO genres displayed. For example, as a JW fan, the thing I liked most was the raptors scenes. They missed a trick since they didn’t use Minecraft, but maybe it was a copyright issue or would just not fit in.
4:00
I feel very specifically called out right now.
I remember watching this film when it was released with my family! It was a great experience.

Rex Dangervest is my favorite Lego Movie character because he reminds me of Rad Dudesman.
this lego movie is better because it's theme is legoer. best critique i've ever heard
Dude, I hate to be the “um, actually” guy, but have you seen the Lego Movies live action sequence? The themes are creativeness vs perfection
11:19 i almost feel bad for this dude getting called out for failing the moral of this video
This video earned you a sub. Nice work!
Best toys ever.
my unadulterated reaction to opening this video was "well f*ckin'... didn't know there was a second one"
I love any film that can be said to have "time travel shenanigans". Not just "time travel", but full on "shenanigans".
THANK YOU!! Finally someone’s giving this movie the respect it deserves!!!

I got a but distracted by another hobby and didn't buy to many sets for a little over a year but I've got right back into things lately.
my siblings ruined this movie for me as they keep repeating the damn song that gets stuck in my head
More specifically, his career after the Lego Movie.
Ill never forget my reaction in the theater reacting to Rex’s true identity
I agree with you
"Some move on after their dark age by collecting Warhammer"... I have never felt called out like this... I have no idea what to say... Lol...
Good listen
The reason why I like the Lego movie franchise it's teach the values of family just like how my Little Pony friendship is magic teaching friendship
Mate, that was my first Lego set too!
And yeah, the Lego Movie 2 is quite an excellent sequel
A good hint of foreshadowing is rex's eyes are just black dots just like emmet
As the other characters have slight hylights on the tip of there eye except emmet hinting at the time travel twist
Also I you slow down the sequence where he builds a time travel machine you can multiple references including back to the future and terminator
I currently am 16 and I like Lego even more now than a few years ago
I think this movie did lack in execution to some extent, but I can definitely see its good qualities now. My theory is that this is a classic case of too much control from marketing and production, since the movie had a franchise (specifically a kid's franchise) to build upon unlike its prequel.
100% agree! Always thought this was an underrated sequel and I related to the themes of maturity! Glad I’m not the only one!;)
