Oh my! I’ve got an original MK VII that I’ve been using as my woods/hiking bag for quite awhile, but this looks like it would be great for a daily bag with that back pocket! Now to try to find one…
Yes have to say I do slightly prefer the mkvi due to the extra back pockets - quite useful. Unfortunately they seem to be even harder to find than the mkvii bags now 😢 Have u seen the Magnoli clothiers mkvii repro bag? That looks pretty nice from the photos and I think you said you’re in the USA so hopefully wouldn’t need to pay outrageous shipping costs?
Very nice! History & practicality all in one...I believe the repro of the 1936 mussette bag is used....also the 1956 & the 1961 original versions of the 'Nam "buttbag" in OD 7 have been used as shoulder bags....Map/dispatch cases & map/photograph cases also have been used....I believe in the UK, the bags were used with a helmet as part of the uniform...female military would make double duty use of them as hand bags...Good video! Looking forward to your repro videos...
Thanks for the interesting comments! Have you seen the Finnish respirator bags? Those make excellent general shoulder bags too - a bit bigger than the mkVI/VII bags and can still be very cheaply picked up, at least in the uk 👍🇫🇮🇬🇧
The Wested Leather Co looks to be the best reproduction of the MK VII bag, I about bought one but the shipping to the US is as much as the bag and I couldn’t quite justify that.
Yes the Wested bag looks to be the most accurate repro I’ve seen. I do sometimes see original movie bags for sale but it seems to be a bit of pot luck as to what sort of condition they’re in 🤷♂️ I do really like the Disney repro bag - yeah, Disney! Very cheap but very decent quality as long as you get rid of the cheap pvc strap on them.
Great video! I may have to pick up one of these old MK VI bags now. Just got an inexpensive repro VII (and ordered a better quality replacement strap of course) for an impending trip. Needed a little handy man, er, I mean, WAR bag to carry odds and ends. :-) Would love to know what you settled on for a repro.
Nice - which repro one did you get? These are really great sized bags for a day out I think - enough capacity and look really cool! I’ve been using one of the Disney store mkvii repros recently - I really like it. I assumed it’d be a pretty rubbish kids toy bag or something as it was from Disney but it’s great 👍 and I won’t cry too much if it gets ruined, like I would if one of my originals got wrecked 🙂
@@accoutrements4469 That Disney repro looked pretty nice -- seems to be sold out now. Unfortunately for me, I had already ordered the cheap (but fairly well reviewed) Amazon MK VII bag with the cheesy strap before I saw this video and went down the rabbit hole of Indy Gear bags. Still, the cheapie bag (with a better strap) will likely get me through my upcoming vacation and...immediate war bag needs. Grin. I do plan to keep on this trek and up my Indy bag game in the future. I can see a nice old MK VI in my future with a decent and proper leather strap. Now that I'm looking around the inter webs, there are some nice bags in this realm out there.
Hey I have a dilemma between the original old one and a new reproduction made by WESTED leather. The old one has historical features but unfortunately several sites offering them (e.g. Soldier of fortune) have these bags in severely average condition. The new reproduction is, of course, new and I don't have to worry about durability The issue of the belt does not interest me - I make in leather, I can sew also is a secondary issue. Gentlemen - maybe some advice? Is the new reproduction from Wasted leather not inferior in terms of workmanship, materials? Best regards

Good explanation of the differences between Mark VI and mark VII. What are the outside dimensions?
The approximate outside dimensions are: 30cm high, 25cm wide and about 8cm deep. It’s a good size for general light use I think 👍

Yes there’s some good options out there, and original old ones that look pretty decent pop up sometimes. Getting much harder to find now though 🤞

Replied on the comment on my other video 👍
Hilarious intro 🤣 it's a WAR BAG!! ✊️🔥✌️💚
Yeah: if it’s good enough for Indiana Jones and for the Brit army it’s good enough for me!
