there's also been a rise in fashion trends on social media inspired by video games, like the recent 'horror game protagonist' trend inspired by games like fatal frame and silent hill. it's gotten so big that the trend is still followed even by those who aren't involved in the gaming community or have played those games. i think it's also worth mentioning the impact that cosplay has had on fashion in recent years, a lot of gamers' first introduction to fashion is through cosplay
Correct me if I'm wrong, but TF2 was the first game with cases, which had cosmetics and warpaints, hence it can be argued that it was the first instance of major cosmetic microtransactions in videogames
Really enjoy ur videos karsten but the links you make in this seem often far too tenuous and insubstaintiated by evidence. Also the whole timeline of the video seems a bit confusing. You mention the video game renaissance whilst including countless instances of footage of games from the last 14 years. You also talk in the same section about how Roblox introduced a much broader character customisation aspect and introduced people to street wear, but this again seems to be a development within the game from like the last 10 years (and yet it’s included in the video game renaissance section). Just confusing and makes the argument jumpy and weak imo
GET THIS TO TOP COMMENT! Was about to lash out but you've expressed most of what I wanted to say in a more eloquent way. I want to add that the speculations he throws are best case off and worst case lies, for example, I was very much into techwear and Death Stranding definitely played a role in bringing huge new crowds and has a big part in the whole 'gorpcore' fad, this game is from 2019, single player games have to make an impact to stand out (that includes visuals and design and a lot more). For me it looks like he doesn't know what he's talking about at all, just filling the upload schedule, which is a shame because he usually knows his stuff.
my intro to fashion through video games was the absolute batshit creations/mods on second life. I could spend thousands of hours patterning on CLO/MD and never come close to the second life designers ( ╥ω╥ ) they a different breed i guess
This is a massive topic that could be go super deep. I understand good bit of newer Rick Owens fans (before Opium craze) got into the brand thanks to Dark Souls
Maybe I live under a rock but honestly the only guy I have ever heard that got into fashion because of video games is Owen Hyatt, other than that I had never heard it before. I thought all gamers thought skins looked dope and that was it(the same way I do), I got into fashion because of other things really also cant think of a vast majority of gamers as fashionable, shit not even a small niche
I do think that this video is missing two important pieces to the puzzle, flex culture and Faze Clan. They were the first to seamlessly blend the two and kinda pioneered this culture
I like to think because of the unreality we live in we sort of gamified life which includes our fashion because they are some of the only things we have control over
we need an anime version of this video. I once had a friend tell me that he modeled his style after anime characters, I thought that was absurd until I saw this video.
"counter strike global offense" okay dude
lmaooo
Right?
bro I think you need to play less counter strike global offensive

It's like he wrote this shit with AI. He loses the plot of the video quickly.

totally agree, there were a lot of inconsistencies that made this vid seem half-assed
Roblox inspired my fashion when I was dripped out in emo clothes and shutter shades in 2010 idg how its not relevant
I don't think this video is meant to be taken quite that seriously.
my intro to fashion through video games was the absolute batshit creations/mods on second life. I could spend thousands of hours patterning on CLO/MD and never come close to the second life designers ( ╥ω╥ ) they a different breed i guess
