As you can see, some of the player clips are subpar because 1) it’s difficult to find Central League highlights in HD, and 2) I need to crop it in a way that won’t get copyrighted. Hope you enjoy the video nonetheless!
Pick 50 players is a big job. Thank you.
Not an easy list to make at all but this is pretty much identical to what I'd have. If I'd change anything, it would be maybe only 1-2 spots but that's only a 'maybe'. It's so refreshing to see so much young talent on this list. So hyped for 2023!
Fantastic video, wonderful analysis, and great use of data.
This will be a good primer to study for broadcasting this year lol, thanks chief.
Love the videos!
Thanks for posting this....I really appreciate it Boss!
Ooh, cheapshot at Aoyagi's hairline at #15! Haha
Murakami with that walk-off tonight, tho . . .
Nippon Ham Fighters have a new stadium in 2023
That Ryoma Nishikawa fella has a really strange swing, in every clip showed its like he chokes up and stops at the end, even on well hit balls.
Will you be making a video covering the Fighters new stadium?
Thanks so much for these videos - they are very helpful for preparation for my NPB fantasy league draft! Do you happen to have the full Top 50 as a text list you could post in the comments by any chance?

Sorry just got to the end and saw the full list. All good. Thanks again, this is stellar!
Loved this video and getting to see some clips of each player as you went through it. It's a lot more fun to watch stats throughout the season when I have an idea of what the player's batting stance / pitching form looks like.
Out of curiosity, what are your thoughts on Go Matsumoto? It looks like his resume pre-2022 is pretty underwhelming, but his 2022 looked great (at least with the surface-level stats like .830 OPS and 21 SB).
Matsumoto just missed the cut for me. He was around the 53-55 range. His BABIP was crazy high so I don’t think his production is sustainable. His batting average will probably dip below .300 and his OPS will be in the low .700s if his BABIP luck runs out.
I still think he can be a quality player, especially with the excellent speed and bat control, but considering that he was a 28 year old breakout, I need to see more to buy him.
Great work❤
Big thanks as always to @DarkMatter89 for not only the graphics but the music too!
Check out the rest of his work here: soundcloud.com/dm_trickster
Tyler Austin the only 'gaijin' on the list (?)
Would Trevor Bauer have made the list if the video was made after his signing or would his lack of NPB experience prevented his consideration?
Love your work.👍
Unlikely. I don’t include foreigners that are yet to debut in NPB. But not saying he won’t be top 50 in terms of performance this season.
Great video. I’m really getting into NPB and love the crowd and excitement of the fans in NPB compared to MLB.
Just a quick question-why do the fans not try to catch and move away from the home run balls so fast? It’s completely opposite to what we see in US. Thanks.
One explanation might be that there’s a culture of fighting for foul/HR balls in MLB, where fans really want to get their hands on one. In Japan, most people don’t care that much. If it rolls towards them, they’ll pick it up and maybe share it with the people around them.
Koyo Aoyagi is the Kazuhiro Wada of pitchers
あんた日本人だろw
The video ia over. Your voice is so smoothing.
Where do you guys watch the games?
I'm a Dragons fan. Will Hiroto Takahashi be able to play an active role in the MLB in the future? And which team could use him? I have a hobby.
I think Hiroto Takahashi will be very coveted by MLB teams in 3-4 years. If he continues to develop, any big market team would probably spend $100+ million.
Yanagita at #3 is ridiculous. He should be #30-40. Except for that l all agree.
茂木とか荻野とか佐藤輝明より下って言いたいの?wwww

柳田なんて甲子園で20本も打てないだろ
I’m guessing Trevor Bauer would be somewhere in here if you did this list again?
I don’t rank players that have never played in NPB before. Too much unknown. In terms of talent potential, he’s probably in the 20-30 range but could be outside of the top 50 since he hasn’t played professionally in a year.
i’m looking forward to seeing these young pitchers in MLB
What happened to okugawa
Did he get tommy john
It’s a bit of a confusing situation as there’s been conflicting reports over the off-season but the last I heard, he did not get surgery and will attempt to be ready for opening day. Not sure how long that elbow will hold up though.
In late season all the pitchers started walking Murakami or throwing outside the box because nobody dared to throw a 4-seamer in the middle, which contributed to his slump.
Also, I think you put too much emplasis on historical performance in your rankings. Yanagita/Mori/Asamura/Okamoto all slumped so bad they don't deserve to be top 10, Okamoto outright lost his slot to Nakata Sho.
where is Yasuhiro Ogawa
Ogawa is a nice innings leader but his run prevention and talent are not on the level of the pitchers in the top 50.
