I know it’s only cartoons but it did remind me of the times I cook with my mother in law. She’s a Japanese woman married to a Puerto Rican man. She stopped preparing Japanese food since her husband and children don’t like it (with the exception of my husband although he does prefer Puerto Rican food). We always cooked Puerto Rican dishes instead. One day I asked her to teach me how to make tamagoyaki since my half-Korean nephew loves it. She did and was so happy. Very easy. She taught me other simple dishes like onigiri, onigirazu, curry and soba dishes, and Osaka style okonomiyaki. 2 of my nephews are half Korean and the 2 other are half Chinese. I still prepare simple stuff for them and they love it. They look forward to tasting Japanese food prepared by my mother in law herself once the pandemic is under control and everyone can gather.
