William the Conqueror in Arabian employ is one thing... but an elite Camel Archer with beyond the visible horizon range, sinking a majestic Frigate from 10 miles away is another thing entirely...
Last game a camel archer with range sunk a carrier. On the following turn, they all got upgraded to tanks... Which cannot sink carriers :P There was a lovely piece of in-game fiction in a comment about it, too.
Civ 5 is my favourite and the only other one I've played in the original (which I loved and must have sunk thousands of hours into over the decades!). What's your favourites, Marb?
Hey Marbz, this Civ 5 game is epic. You're my favorite Civ let's player and I've always loved your playstyle. I really love Civ 5, even more so compared to Civ 6, and that's why I'm feeling slightly negative with what we've seen from Civ 7. Civ 6 introduced districts as their main gimmick which was super cool. It feels awesome when you have a +6 district. But introducing districts led to some IMHO unfun game mechanics which are 1) Tall being a weak playstyle, 2) the ability to harvest resources and 3) Weak AI opponents. In Civ 6, it's better to have 16 campuses vs 4. And the only way to get 16 campuses is by getting 16 cities. Which means it's better to go wide than tall. Obviously there are other factors why wide is so much better than tall, but this is the main one. Tall just isn't viable when you can't build as many districts. Also, since it would suck to have a really good district tile with a bonus resource tile on it, the developers decided you can harvest the bonus resources so the player doesn't feel so bad. But harvesting resources is just too OP, the snowball you get is just so much better than improving it. Why is it so good? It has to be otherwise the player would feel bad by building optimum districts which is the main gimmick of the game. But harvesting resources just feels unfun for me since you can never replace or rebuilt a bonus resource ever. Once it's gone, it's gone forever. And because districts are so centralizing to the game, the developers have to make the AI think on where to optimally place their districts, which means the AI brainpower is stretched too thin and other aspects of their gameplay feel worse than Civ 5. Don't get me wrong, I love districts but I just don't love the way they implemented the balancing of the ideas they have. They didn't have to make specialists suck so much. They could've made districts improve the tile rather than replace it. I feel like they were so scared the playerbase would hate their new gimmick, they pushed it a little too much to make it work. My biggest concern with Civ 7 is that it's doesn't address why Civ 6 can be sometimes unfun compared to Civ 5 and that they're doubling down on gameplay mechanics that seem to introduce more of these unfun mechanics. TLDR if I had to choose between Civ 5 and Humankind, I would choose Civ 5 because it's one of my favorite games of all times. Civ 7 looks like Humankind 2 which is not the game I want. What I really want is a Civ 5 mega expansion which fixes all the bugs Civ 5 has and has all the cool gameplay mechanics of Civ 6 like districts (implemented slightly diffently), governors, unique city states, secret societies and heroes. And don't get me started on the monetization model.
You can upgrade your Pikeman to the oh-so-coveted Lancer now and have some more flexibility when taking cities. Not that I expect people to be able to kill your other melee units, but better safe than sorry.
I like going for Freedom because very rarely AI will adopt Freedom so it will add more challenges to my games. Plus the wonder Statue of Liberty is so freaking good, arguably the best wonder in the game.

Nothing in Civ 5 makes sense historically...which is kind of fun in a way.

Just wait for the intercontinental ballistic camel!

Pacal offered you Chichen Itza in a peace offer, so he's definitely got at least one more city somewhere
Pacal was willing to peace out with you
Thanks for more Civ V
William the Conqueror or simply "Bill" to his friends. 😁
Can't wait to see Civ 7 epic long ages 🎉
Marbs without oil? This means war!
Marbs with oil? Time to build weapons of war!
Civ 5 is my favourite and the only other one I've played in the original (which I loved and must have sunk thousands of hours into over the decades!). What's your favourites, Marb?
Definitely 5 (and I played all of them). I have 3 thousand hours in it, I don't have nearly as much in any other Civ.
