One of the best ways I've found to help people become more comfortable with negotiating is shift the mental persective of 'me against them' to 'us against the problem'. You both want the same thing - to transact on that card, to fill the empty job role, to rent that apartment, it is just a matter of agreeing on the solution. Once you stop thinking of it as advesarial and look at it as two people collaborating to solve the problem, it becomes a lot easier for both sides to walk away happy.
Another great episode. I pretty much like all your videos but this one conjured up some memories. My former job was a purchasing agent at a paper mill. During my negotiating course, A learnt " you don't get what you ask for, you get what you negotiate". This video hit all the great points to negotiation and should be helpful to collectors. Flippers are on there own!
I make it a habit to leave my phone in my vehicle when enjoying card shows, having a good grasp on what your looking for and how much your willing to pay is huge! Sometimes it’s just nice not to have to be interrupted!
You never have a bad episode, sir. I have a lot of the same thoughts and use several of the same tactics when negotiating at a card show. Thanks for making this!
As far as the topps 2012 661 harper rookie.. The excited celebrating varient.. Is it considered lesser to the blue helmet variant? I build sets and I guess I'll need to know which one is the one to focus on acquiring the most?
I would posit home ownership/real estate investment as a third arena for expected negotiation - though you'd never know it from some of the housing bubbles. Step 2 is extremely important. I've come through a number of situations to my benefit simply by being cold. And some have nothing to do with financial transactions. That phrase about "all the women who refused to sleep with him" had me laughing. Maybe keeping it light like that is another strategy. Off Topic: It seems I'm selling more vinyl than cards these days. In that area, I regularly give repeat customers breaks without their asking if they're buying items that add up, or if they're looking at bigger ticket pieces. Vendors should have good strategies, too.
Good advice. Thx. Well produced video.
I appreciate the feedback.

I love this, and it will be fully incorporated into Negotiating 201.

To put your phone down is to be free. You are a king amongst men!

Well, prices seem to suggest that the blue helmet is favored over the screaming. I prefer the blue helmet, but I prefer batting cards.
Another great video!!!!
Thanks for the view
DAMN, I love this channel..
More to come
Me, too
Thanks for the great video - I really dislike negotiating.....probably because I'm not good at it.....maybe this will help!!!! have a great one!!!
It's easy to be intimidated. But it can be a zen experience if you step back and approach as a friend instead of adversary.

I thought about adding real estate, but these days buying a home is more like an auction than a negotiation...
It always amazes me how shocked people with bad attitudes and no manners are when they can’t get a deal done
Jerks are everywhere.
Tough guys who need to call mommy to make sure it's okay
😂😂😂😂😂
Truly, it's bizarre to watch.
