I LOVED the original (non-lyric) video that was released with the song. That video had the band in a stadium, during set-up and sound-check. The music starts playing on a reel-to-reel tape player, the drums get adjusted, Roger Daltry walks out of a limo and onto the stage, and then Pete Townsend steps-up to the mic. That video footage really enhance the song for me!

We set a record time for load in, set up for a stadium show once, and only once, with them. What normally took 5 days to build we did in 16 hours. Never been done that fast before. I've never heard of anyone doing it that fast again, for any stadium show. One of the better outfits to work with.

A put on is an attempt to deceive. "You're putting me on!" is what you might say to someone who you think just lied to you. An eminence front is a put on of greatness for yourself that you want others to see, but in reality it's all fake. It's just a front.

Yeah, bro and sis, that's my theme song right there! This tune is just so perfect--everything about it. People have commented on the intro guitar, but the outtro is equally amazing. Pete puts so many quarter and half rests (and I think a couple full rests) in the last 8 measures, that makes it difficult to play, never mind sing at the same time. This tune has meaning on so many levels. In fact, our legal system here in Amerika is the epitome of an "eminence front," since it certainly is a "put on."

It's a really fun song to plug in and play to on the guitar.
It's a really simple riff, not really complex at all. But it has a nice grittyness to it.
    Fun to play.

So yeah you've got your eminence which is like a royal terminology you know it would be something you might call a queen or a king when you're dressing royalty you might say your lordship or your eminence but yeah you know people try to act as if there's something that they're not when they really don't have to do such an absurd thing but there you go oh my God you guys you wouldn't believe I saw this song being performed by The Who at the LA Coliseum wow that place was just packed what a show and to hear him do this song Unbelievable okay you Floridians

What I love about you guys is that you actually try to understand the meaning of the song instead of just saying that you like the tune. I don’t always agree with your interpretation, but that doesn’t mean I’m right and you’re wrong. You help me to actually appreciate what I’m hearing, from a new perspective. That’s GOLD!

Lex is right. The song is about people pretending to be more than there are or to have more than they do. They are keeping up with the Jones. In the 80’s we used to say someone was putting on a front or “fronting”.

The interesting thing about this song is that "Pete Townshend" is singing the lead vocal and "Roger Daltrey" is singing backing vocals. Also, this song was recorded after Keith Moon's death. "Kenny Jones" is on drums.

Brad read while that hot intro was playing. Lex was just vibing to that hot intro. That's why I love their reactions. I mean Lex is pretty good at deciphering meanings in the moment, but Brad had an edge from the start. Anyway, it's not a competition and this is my favorite song from the Who.
Basically rich folk glide through life ignoring the consequences. Some poor people do too but for the rich it hits different.

One of the great Who songs.
It would be great if you did a reaction to Here Come The Mummies
Great blues, soul, disco influenced funk band
"The band consists of various professional musicians based in Nashville, Tennessee. There are rumored to be several Grammy awards among the members, though this is difficult to verify, as the identities of band members are kept "under wraps."Members are believed to be under contract to various record labels, hiding their identities so as to prevent contract disputes while performing."
Bump, You got it all, Booty, Boom boom room, Never grow old and so many other great songs. 9 piece, 5 part harmonies and a smokin' horn section.

Townsend's message of this song is that people who are high on drugs are not their true selves. People around them get a different personality, not what is the authentic person. They put up a front to be acceptable in social situations. And maybe Townsend believes that at the time of him writing the song drug use, in society, has gone off the rail, is out of control.
This is the last leg or latter chapter of the great Who band, they are really a 60's and 70's band that, like The Rolling Stones, just won't stop, but their height is over, this is, I believe an early 80's song, might be very late 70's but I think it's 80's. I love it, it's not "old men drudgery", this is hit song material and it was a Top 40 hit in most European countries. The music sounds quintessential Who, but it also has a refreshed sound and a perfect sound with which you would see and feel The Who entering the new decade. With a strong rolling repeating musical riff, it has the right vibe and rhythm, sounds great on Radio. On top the song has several interesting guitar entries and additions and some other interesting musical tid-bits. The lyrical theme is very relevant for the time.
As usual from The Who, this is for me a great song. I don't own the album, maybe I'll buy it now.
