We didn't learn anything about either party from this discussion. This was a clever way of virtue signaling by pretending to reach out in an attempt to understand when in reality he used key words to paint a more subliminal image within the viewers minds. Find some people from both sides to interview at the same time, that would be Interesting.

I watched all that. Republicans can be reasonable, but their politicians are not. They have been 100% opposed to letting demos achieve anything. She studiously avoiding going there. Repubs even threatened to deny raising the debt ceiling ( which should be eliminated since approving a spending plan includes it.

He should have asked her why Republicans are passing voting security laws based on imaginary fraud. I think it’s time to either dissolve the political parties or allow them to splinter into their own factions. Either way, politics as it is now cannot exist anymore.
I often think we'd be better served by a parliamentary multi-party system with coalitions and whatnot instead of the two-party system.
I’m in favor of no political parties. Let just have people with open minds willing to work together to find unique solutions to problems.

@@Raiden0831 There’s already an administrative system in place it could be based on, adapted to a larger scale. But it would require other changes along with it, as well as people being motivated a bit more by virtue that they are now.

A. they did not discuss any issues, only how the public perceives issues
B. this person's job is to be eloquent and easy to talk to about voters' feelings with many types of interlocutors
As a conservative, I appreciate this open, bi-partisan conversation.
THIS interview and quite a few others are a clear rebuttal to those who indict Noah as a leftist hack. Trevor Noah does NOT fit into any of the usual boxes, partly because he grew up in South Africa and thus has an outsider perspective of U.S. politics. Another huge part is that he is NOT black (not having the black experience of most U.S. blacks) the way black Americans think of themselves as being black, and yet he is seen by most people in the U.S. as black. I think this imbues Noah will an open mind and greater curiosity about how cultural experiences shape what we believe about each other!
@@victorpradha9946 to be fair, he self admits he hadn’t had a conservative on his show for quite some time. I think this was certainly a step in the right direction.

Kristen Soltis Anderson was a regular guest on CNN, MSNBC, and C-SPAN for over 10 years but now it seems only Fox invites her on now.
It’s ben so long since I’ve heard a republican being so nuanced and fully explain things rationally. I’ve always believed that being a republican is not the problem, being closed minded is.

Another point she didn't mention: it might improve the US' extremely low voting rate, meaning people who don't care to vote now would get influence. How would that effect things?

I didn't think it was possible in today's uber- polarized political climate to have REAL, honest, non-polarizing discussions with a sincere (I can only hope and assume) desire to understand the other side. To me, this conversation was way more interesting than the time he brought Tomi Lahren on as a guest. Her skill of gleaning insight from data is really helpful.

I agree. To I knows what she does not like, but she has no insight into why she doesn’t something or what would be an acceptable alternative. She is an empty shirt in my opinion. This conversation is much more substantive.

@@brianmedlin4636 Exactly. It's why Joe Bidden is president instead of Bernie, or Elizabeth Warren. Because the Dems knew that Joe Biden gave them a chance to win over Trump whereas Bernie and Warren were too scary for the balance of the electorate.
And now Biden is beholden to Manchin who gets to dictate Biden's accomplishments. It's been almost a year and Biden has nothing to show anyone except a disastrous pullout and how long he lied to Americans about Afghanistan. Bernie and Warren are not president because of the sheer terror democrats have of accomplishing anything. They simple don't care or are bought off.

@@oskarhenriksen Maybe both him and Pete Buttigieg. May also have made the comment that Democrat candidates should make some appearances on Fox, in spite of the network's reputation, because otherwise it'll be their own fault that Fox viewers never hear them in an interview setting.

Never was a big fan of Trever but he is an amazing interviewer. His questions are clear and probing yet not designed to promote a political ideology. He is an honest and fair interviewer. Bravo!
I have to admit I am shocked and encouraged by this segment. I remember watching clips of this show during the Trump era which was basically just a regurgitation of all the media talking points. Now we have real conversations with respect and listening to understand? Kudos, earned my respect.
Trevors interviewing skills and style are something I’m taking notice of now. I left the Daily Show shortly after Stewart did but these recent interviews have given me a reason to come back. More of this please. I would love to see him and Colion Noir discuss guns.
I love this interview and this lady is articulated, nice, open minded, and smart. And I love how Trevor really lets her talk and emphatically listens to her trying to understand her point of view.
It absolutely requires *both* parties to be respectful and open minded. CNN often trots out an insecure and overly defensive conservative (Steven Cortez, David Urban, Kayleigh McEnany) to represent the conservative viewpoint. The one exception *might* be Scott Jennings.
It seems by design, so that they can say, "You see the mentality we're dealing with here?" reducto ad absurdum.

The idea that "winning" power at all costs, without regard for the harm policies will cause, is heartbreaking and is antithetical to a just, reasoned, and civil society.
Politics in America, for many, has become a game in which human rights and dignity have become immaterial, and power, profits, and prestige are the only variables considered worthy of regard. 😥

It was accurate in that she said they would do anything to win. They have no scruples, just a hunger for power and money. It was inaccurate in that she pointed to a diverse republican coalition without pointing out the enormous racial disparity in the voting blocks of each party, as well as the number of women in power of each party. The fact that she didn't bring up wedge issues voters speaks volumes.
@@floydammons5429 We aren't obsessed with having a number of women or minorities because we simply want the best person to represent us. Have you realized that just because a person has your skin color doesn't mean they have your best interest in mind - aka the wicked Obama and Biden.
Notice she says the party is split between "Republicans First" vs. "Trump First"....No mention of "Americans First."

If you back the party, you back the policies. You don’t get to pick and choose. You don’t get to be a Republican and not acknowledge that you’re supporting racism
Exactly, many want to hold onto these little ideas they have about what Republicans stand for in spite of their actual policies and actions moving farther and farther right and not representing them.
Few things I hate more in this life than people saying 'I didn't vote for abc, I voted for xyz". One may have voted *because* of xyz but they *for* the entire alphabet. And I refuse to engage with anyone who won't acknowledge that basic truth.
Trump fights for the sake of fighting; policy issues are irrelevant (unless an issue feeds anger).
Dems are a decade behind being able to use their power when they have it.
Trevor! What a fantastic change! I hadn’t seen much of the show for a while and now I’m seeing this is the second time you interview a conservative GOP person. THIS IS WHAT WE NEED! Conversations where we are not exposed to the worst caricature of those opposing our views, you know, Ted Cruz, Mitch Machonell etc. I’m a liberal, Bernie supporter, and really welcome the opportunity of listening to views I disagree with but, when provided with some context, I can understand where they come from, and let me see how not all is pure evil.

The present "moderates" in the Democratic party are more like what were termed conservative before 1990. It is complicated but Republicans are generally more conservative and moving rapidly to the right.
"I think Republicans will gravitate to a new strategy if a new strategy can prove it can win at the ballot box."
Republicans will gravitate to a _new_ strategy as soon as the _old_ strategy _stops_ working for them. But they _continue_ to use the old strategy precisely _because_ it works.
"Look at the growing number of minorities in this country. Let's revise our platform to something they are more likely to agree with."
"Well... yeah... we _could_ do that. We could _also_ set to work, coming up with ways to make voting _harder_ for them or ways to make the votes they cast more likely to be discarded, and stick with the platform we've _got."_
The Republican agenda is 100% to destroy the voting process and use power and manipulation to seize control and initiate a transition to authoritarian/fascist state action. Does anyone believe that a Republican takeover of the house and senate means anything other than a Trumpist coup, and the obliteration of voting rights? Republicans are a one issue party - white minority rule forever.

@@zp4200 That would a great point if it was the only one. I have no issue with voter ID. You need an ID to fly, buy beer, etc. Why not vote? The other issues are reducing voting hours, means of voting (mail in, etc), limiting polling places in minority areas, gerrymandering, etc etc etc. How about a National holiday for Election Day? They want less people to vote, not more. If you don’t see the other items as issues, you might be part of the problem.

Really great interview. Trevor handles people of both parties really well and is very fair to everyone. Kristen is on point with her assessment of the different factions of the GOP.
This was a great conversation interview. I highlight conversation because it was truly back and forth and presenting different view points. Instead of what we normally see on Fox and CNN in that they try to get people to further their talking points.
I was able to view the Republican party as a serious topic instead of the circus it's been the past 5 or 6 years.

Gaining respect for Trevor by having these respectful conversations with Republicans. I’m a liberal but I just think speaking with people you disagree with peacefully is something his audience really needs.

Her statement that the Democrats mostly fall into something that is like Labour parties in European countries is actually off. On a lot of issues the Democratic party is right of some of the conservative parties in many European countries

I love to see so many supportive comments for calm bi-partisan discussions like this one, it gives promise that just maybe we can find a way to possibly heal some wounds and come together if our leaders simply decide to have honest and fair discussion. Hope springs eternal!
One problem with the premise of the conversation: individuals can hold a lot of different views and be willing to compromise, but if the end result is sending the worst elements to D.C. it becomes pointless. There’s pointing at the enemy on both sides but as long as Democrats actually still hold different viewpoints and have to negotiate amongst themselves that actually shows how most other democracies do politics. Meanwhile the Republicans just go for a big fat NO on anything other then tax breaks for rich people, voter exclusion and climate change denial. All things that polls show their base actually doesn’t want (except maybe the voter exclusion)
I think that's one important reason the US should get a European style parliamentary system; it'll make it harder for politicians to ignore the actual wishes of the voters.
Conservative means they want things to stay the same. When things clog up (manchin) it is a total win for conservatives.

This was one of the best political interviews that I have ever seen. The host and the guest were direct about their views and explained their positions candidly. I wish more political discourse would be like this.

She hit the nail in the head when she said ppl are not looking for someone thst has Trump's personality but someone who will take the fight to the Democrats. What we see with most traditional politicians is that their primary goal is to preserve their job.

Trevor I haven’t been a huge fan of your over the years , but this type of content is so important to de polarize our country . Calm tensions down , and create a more humanized paradigm
I always laugh when someone says Republicans feel threatened by Hollywood. While many high-profile workers in the film industry might skew liberal, the movies Hollywood produces tend to promote a conservative worldview, with wear-it-on-the-sleeve patriotism and characters that conform to traditional stereotypes. This is because bucking the system does not translate to breaking the box office. Economic pressure minimizes the risk the industry is willing to take. Hollywood would rather be safe, than sorry.

I’ve been a firm independent since I could first vote, which in NH means having to re-declare I’m undeclared every time I cast a ballot (so I get to pick which, whether for tactical, or for programmatic reasons). However, in early 2015 (still independent!) I became a single-issue voter. You see, I speak Russian, and had listened to Vlad Vladimirovitch promise his intelligence mavens he’d divide us along resentful lines of (often artificial) grievances, and win!

Thank you for speaking up. The Trumpers have been led around by the nose with Trump. He is not loyal to America but to the last guy that loaned him money. He was cut off by American banks for being too much of a loser. My understanding is that you’re speaking of whom we know of as Putin?
You could substitute dissatisfied Republicans during the Pre-Trump Era for progressive Democrats as her description captures exactly how many are feeling now: They want their Congress Reps to collectively grow a spine and draw a line in the sand prior to heading into the negotiation room. Hint: Draw the line at 'paid family leave' and 'lowering drug prices.' Vote 'no' on your own stinkin' bill if you can't make even that happen for the American people. smh

I normally don’t watch Trevor, because I’ve found him to be disrespectful to those who don’t hold his views. That being said, I watched this interview and I am in awe of the respect that was shown. If only EVERYONE could discuss their viewpoints as respectfully as these two, what a wonderful world it would be. Thank you both for being civil, respectful, honest and open. Please keep it up.

That doesn’t make sense. All governments are comprised of parties - even dictatorships. You literally are a party the moment you enter politics, even if it’s a party of one. This is like saying you’re against groups of people with humans in it.
