Middle Town Ohio! My aunt and uncle lived there! There was a steel plant there where my uncle worked, huge place and very interesting to a twelve year old like me. Now JD doesn't seem to understand the huge changes in steel production that have happened over the last thirty years resulting in cutbacks and layoffs. These changes are due to technology and not to anything the government has done, and are not bad things. Today America's steel industry is way ahead of the rest of the world producing steel continuously at a lower cost which saves money for everyone. It is a legitimate pathway for those of us who didn't get any financial support from their parents and it takes serving our country and often times being exposed to dangerous and hazardous situations. The GI Bill is also arguably the reason why the US economy transformed after WWII into a powerhouse by providing higher education to a much broader swath of the population.

Middle Town Ohio! My aunt and uncle lived there! There was a steel plant there where my uncle worked, huge place and very interesting to a twelve year old like me. Now JD doesn't seem to understand the huge changes in steel production that have happened over the last thirty years resulting in cutbacks and layoffs. These changes are due to technology and not to anything the government has done, and are not bad things. Today America's steel industry is way ahead of the rest of the world producing steel continuously at a lower cost which saves money for everyone. Considering JD went to Yale I wonder just what did he study?

Hey, let's not take shots at the GI Bill. It is a legitimate pathway for those of us who didn't get any financial support from their parents and it takes serving our country and often times being exposed to dangerous and hazardous situations. The GI Bill is also arguably the reason why the US economy transformed after WWII into a powerhouse by providing higher education to a much broader swath of the population.
They're not saying anything bad about the G.I Bill. What they're pointing out is the hypocrisy of conservatives constantly complaining about people receiving any kind of assistance yet are more than happy to receive some themselves when given the chance.
But that’s the point, Vince didn’t pull himself up with the boot straps. He took advantage of a social program. A social program that had profoundly positive long-term impacts on the American society and US economy.
