And neither is allergic! I knew that I might have children with pet allergies when I married my husband who is allergic to most anything with fur. If I didn’t have a family with allergies, I have no idea how many pets I would have!
When I was 11 years old and playing jump rope, I sat down next to a hedge for a few minutes. Out of the hedges jumped a baby squirrel into my arms. I was shocked he wasn't afraid. I couldn't find a parent or nest. I took him home and our family raised him. When he was 6 months we began introducing him to living outside. He kept coming back. One day we saw him with a girlfriend. He withdrew from us and was able to return to the wild.
Plenty of kindness in this world. There are definitely some real jerks out there. For instance, I tell someone I support trump, they become a real jerk to me. It’s like, I can’t like the president? What has happened to society, to where you get attacked for supporting the president. If you eradicated most of the trump haters, it would probably be a much more polite world.
We had a friend wild squirrel. She'd have a litter of babies every year so we nicknamed her "Mama". She'd eat out of our hands, and knock on our windows asking for food, or hang on our screen door. She was so cute. We believe she died because we never saw her again.
@@susannaCdonovan23 I feed the squirrels daily. Have for yrs. Every now and then I will get one that comes to me and eat out of my fingers. I had one once that would follow me then stand up on my leg I could feel his little claws. He would even get up and sit on my mother's knee. I have one now that takes notice when he hears my voice in the house. He waits for me to come out then runs up to me to get fed. It always amazes me how gently they take the food out of my fingers. It's always sad when they disappear. I always miss them. At least we've had the pleasure to take care of them while their here and I'm sure it added a little something to their lives .

Neural networks with only a handful of cells are already able to LEARN. And a pond snail has 11,000. A frog has around 16 million. A hamster around 90 million. A rat around 200 million. And then we quickly get into the billions with animals like racoons or dogs. We humans come in at around 86 billion neurons. The relations are crazy. Our brains compared to something like a snail, but also the fact that a snail brain already has 11k neurons and is more than capable of learning...
@MultiTardedIts more of an understatement not exaggeration, you share over 50% of the same DNA with a fly... we are all basically the same thing, humans share 99.9% of the same DNA with each other, we are all basically clones of the same thing with 0.1 error rate, ALL life is related, ALL life is sentient, id even argue all matter is also albeit on a lower level.

Squirrels are really playful. My boy cat loved to play with this one squirrel in particular. They had a friendship. Love knows no boundaries! Sqirrels love to tease pets I think because they want to play.
Squirrels wag their tails to their predators as a way to signal to the predator, "I see you watching me. So don't bother trying to take me by surprise. I'm onto you bub."

Bless you for changing. All animals love, think, suffer, feel fear and pain just as we do. It is a damn shame the way we treat them. The basis of our mistreatment of animals is the Bible and the Quran which say that animals were just put here for people to use. I quit eating meat sometime back. Maybe someday you...

What I really love is that all these squirrel videos are teaching people that these aren't just flying pests. For the longest time I've always heard people refer to them as pesky rodents as if they're miserable creatures. And even rats we know are incredibly intelligent, thoughtful, feeling creatures. I look forward to a day sometime in the future when animals are not viewed as things to use but rather sentient creatures to share this planet with, with respect and love.
@@rellykz2175 Thanks for highlighting that. I know it's a rodent. I should have been more clear in my use of the term. I've edited my post accordingly.
Aria G. Squirrels are rodents, but rodent is not a dirty word. Rodents are intelligent, sociable, resourceful, playful and adorable. I find them to be pleasant company. :)
I agree! I have always loved rodents. There is much misunderstanding about their cleanliness, intelligence and sociability. I rescued a squirrel once who returned to the wild, and I have pet rats today. I accept that there will always be people who call me crazy.
So, I rescued a baby squirrel that my dog found. He was so tiny and helpless. I thought "I'll never be able to take care of him". That was almost 2 months ago. He brings joy and laughter to my life. How are they different than cats and dogs or any other animal regarded as pets? I mean, we surely have to be careful that not the same neglect/abandonment problems ensue as with those pets. Maybe the whole 'pet industry' is an inevitable problem once humans follow their want for a pet. Maybe the cat-and-dog world is a practical warning sign to not do it with further species. - Humility practice. Serving instead of ruling.
@Adam Jensen - I don't see much of whatever that "domestication" is supposed to have done. But I see pets with all kinds of different personalities and aims, cats who never want to go outside and are all cuddly as well as cats who want to roam wild in the neighborhood. The same will apply to all kinds of animals, and their choice or origin of habitat may already convey a tendency there. Humans are animals, and in this variety of personality and outlook very much like any animal.
@Adam Jensen They didn't say anything at all about "not knowing" what the meaning of the word domestication is. What I heard them say (agree or disagree) is that they don't see much evidence that the domestication of cats and dogs somehow is playing quite so overriding and massive a role -- making this totally entirely different with dogs/cats from other animals as potential pets -- as is often and generally supposed.
After saving a fawn 2 years ago from a coyote attack, the fawn hobbled off on his weal legs. 20 minutes later as I left my workshop, the fawn and the mother deer startled me by standing by the door waiting for me to come out. It was as if they both were thanking me! That has never happened before or since. Thanks for seeing God's creature where others see only a nuisance.
@@northerniltree so the the squirrel and faun are God's creatures, but the coyote isn't? Kind of ironic, you thanking them for seeing the squirrel as something other than a nuisance, then turn around and comment that you gunned down a coyote.
The coyote had red eyes and evil intent. Haven't you ever watched a Disney movie where not all the forest creatures are cute and huggable? That coyote was coming after your designer dog next.
@@northerniltree I don't have a *designer* dog, but I do know enough that living in coyote country, I keep my dog on a leash and where I can see him, because I truly believe that all God's creatures have a purpose and, in nature, the right to their habitat.
Alright, time for the truth. I shooed away both juvenile coyotes who were doing nothing more than terrorizing the fawn. They were not skilled enough for a kill. The mother and fawn did appear later in what seemed like a thank you. The two coyotes today are full grown and handsome animals, and I have seen no more deer attacks. They appear from time to time, but are elusive. The deer are everywhere, and don't mind my presence much. I brought up the shooting as a way to silence a critic of the fawn rescue. That's it.

Bone Train no it’s not that simple. It’s really not. It’s years of either emotional, verbal or physical abuse or a combination that contributes to people losing their ability to show love for one another, especially family members. We really don’t know what others have experienced growing up, but it’s well documented that lack of love is formed from previous abuse and not to say that treating people like that is acceptable, they do have a duty to get help, but it’s their own pain coming through. You can read more about it online if you yourself are recovering from an abusive parent. Best of luck ❤️
@@ijustwanttosleepnow also im not saying abuse doesnt take place in some cases, im just saying it isnt always abuse that causes it, some people are just mentally unwell all their life.

This, undoubtedly, is one of the best stories I've ever heard. And, you are so lucky to be a part of it. It's amazingly beautiful. Wish I could do something like this with my life.
Just be open to it. Opportunities abound out there, and you never know... I had my little pup show up over 7 years ago, chasing the neighbor's cat. Within the next 30 minutes, the little stinker had chosen me as his human. (He and the cat became good friends, by the way, even playing "tag" together.) He walked ahead of me to work that day, with me trying to get him to go home the whole way. No go. All the way home that night, I kept expecting to find a dead dog, as part of that route goes across some VERY busy streets. Nope. He was waiting for me on the porch when I got there. And he's been a great companion and comfort ever since....
Be open. They'll choose you. Meanwhile, you can give food or water or cardboad boxes etc (depends on your country) for street animals. Or spend time with abandoned animal in Animal shelters.
Mr Kumar..You can do something like this if you're at all able to take care of an animal who needs a home. Start putting out food regularly for homeless cats near your house & you'll find that many of them started out as pets but got left behind when their person moved. It's not so easy to tame a feral cat (though it can be done), but there are plenty of tame cats who desperately need homes. They might be afraid of you at first, as they've usually had cat-haters be mean to them living on the street, but they'll learn to trust you if you feed & visit them regularly. Then there'll be one cat who chooses you, one who you also choose, who will eventually ask to come home with you. If you're poor, as I am, you can ask some local animal-rescue groups to help you with cat chow. I feed 12 cats daily, all homeless cats who've been on their own for quite a while, & there's no way I could pay for the chow by myself. But two rescue groups contribute most of it. The groups don't have much money to work with, no help from anyone but regular members, but they've committed themselves to helping animals & are usually glad to supply chow to anyone who's willing to feed abandoned cats. Also, these rescue groups usually have rescued animals who need homes, so you can adopt one of these for a small fee that will cover the initial vet care. Lots of such small groups in most cities rescue mainly cats & dogs, but some take in any animal who needs help. Over the years, I've rescued baby squirrels, parrots, a crow, dogs, small domesticated birds like parakeets & canaries, domestic rabbits. Just keep your eye out for animals in need, or check with local rescue groups. There are many more animals who need homes than there are people willing to give them homes. You could save a life & at the same time find a wonderful companion. Just be careful about taking in non-domesticated animals, animals who don't have a history of living with humans, because too often these animals don't survive well under human care & need to live among their own kind. Some 'wild' animals, though, do well living with humans, as long as the person knows what to feed them, etc. This includes many animals who live alongside humans in towns & cities, such as squirrels, raccoons, pigeons, rats & mice, crows, & others who have lived around humans for centuries. Good luck! You can find such a companion if you keep your eyes open & you could save that animal's life, at the same time making your own life more fulfilling.
My cat appeared on my back porch one day. Tiny little bugger was chased by my elderly neighbor because she just wanted to hold him but he wouldn't have any of it. As soon as i picked him up he curled right up in my arms and now he wakes me up at 4 in the morning demanding attention. Pretty sure he was abused and dumped by a male because he freaks out when ever any guys ever come over... Also when it comes to giving him a bath, total melt down.... I hate to think about what his life used to be like.
@@masacatior Just because you and I hate humans, doesn't mean other species aren't as smart as we are when need be. Try to use your brain instead of your feelz.
Because this little guy will never reproduce, so it's not an evolutionary advantage. No matter how well fed and happy and cared for he is, no matter how long he lives, no matter any other factors in a happy life, if he doesn't breed then the traits are an evolutionary dead end.
I have an indoor/outdoor squirrel named Penelope. She used to be more friendly, but can and will bite if you do something to upset her. They can bite to the bone, no problem. We know this personally. You never know how much "wild" you will get in your squirrel, but on average the boys are friendlier. I love my squirrel, but definitely have learned what you can and cannot do around her. If you do get one, just know that they all start out sweet and cuddly, but can change when they get older. Some want to be homebodies, some absolutely have to leave. Some are super sweet like this one, others will literally put you in the hospital. It is a luck of the draw, more or less.

His personality was amazing and so very trusting but he didn't act that way with people who didn't live in our home? he loved our dogs and bird until he started to get a little older and hit puberty? he changed, he wanted out but was confused because we would take him out and sit under the tree and let him play and think he would decide to venture off on his own/ he tried a few times but always came back and then one day he went up the tree and left for a day ( we were scared for him) but he came back the next day for his breakfast, did this a few times and eventually he stayed away ( guessing he found a mate) Corny was a red Squirrel and we have tons of grey Squirrels around and they weren't very friendly with him, so, we figured he had to travel a bit to find his tribe? but he taught us a lot. we miss him and we're glad to have been able to make sure he was able to grow up safe and happy.
Thank you for rescuing Corny! Not only did you save his life, but he got to be raised with love and fun. What has happened to society, to where you get attacked for supporting the president. If you eradicated most of the trump haters, it would probably be a much more polite world.
Thank y'all both for realizing the squirrel was not fit for the wild. Also, for realizing that others are.
Beautifully said.
We had a friend wild squirrel. She'd have a litter of babies every year so we nicknamed her "Mama". She'd eat out of our hands, and knock on our windows asking for food, or hang on our screen door. She was so cute. We believe she died because we never saw her again.
Squirrels are territorial.
Very cool comment. Big-picture thinking.
Squirrel hugs are the cutest thing. He knew when he adopted his human parents that he was not squirrel adept and he would need them . I have to hand it to him, he picked really great parents.
Every time I pick up my little Peanut, he gives me (my hand) a hug. He squeezes SO hard and buries his face in my hand. It's so precious.
This is so sweet. My daughter and I raised 2 baby squirrels from age 5 weeks. Buddy is normal, and we released him and he still comes to us for walnuts. Malenky has a bad sabertooth (malocclusion) so cannot eat much in the wild. So he now lives outside, but comes in the window each day to eat the food we´ve fixed for him. Thank you for this story!!!
Love your story too!😍🥰

It's a real eye opener when you realize that even rodents like squirrels, hamsters, and mice lead emotional lives just like we do!
All sentient animals have emotions. It's why I don't eat them.
Dutch Flats: Yes, it's Amazing.
I think interaction with humans brings that out more though. It’s like how dogs tend to show more emotional expression to humans than other dogs.
Watching this helps me believe all is well for a moment in time.

This is amazing for me to hear! A squirrel chose me once also, I almost hit him with my car and when I got out to see if he was ok he jumped right onto my hands and refused to leave my side. He was young and scared I think. The forest was on fire and I think it has run him out into the open. I kept him for 5 years after that.

There's a squirrel in my backyard that teases my dog by wagging his tail. Suddenly not mad at the squirrel being a dog bully.
Thanks, Peanut. You just brainwashed me.
Its actually a defense mechanism: Squirrels wag their tails at predators to tell them- hey there, I see you, don't bother trying to sneak up on me.
This why I don't like squirrels

Bless you for changing. All animals love, think, suffer, feel fear and pain just as we do. It is a damn shame the way we treat them. The basis of our mistreatment of animals is the Bible and the Quran which say that animals were just put here for people to use.

@@teutailyriana8118 I agree; didn't that come across in my posting? I said I've heard people refer to them as something negative; not me. I love them.

Aria G. You nailed it. I live in a condo. we cant feed the birds or the squirrels. They even fined me before for it..😢
So, I rescued a baby squirrel that my dog found. He was so tiny and helpless. I thought "I'll never be able to take care of him". That was almost 2 months ago. He brings joy and laughter to my life. Have watched this so many times. Still pierces my heart every time.
I know they belong in nature but I want one too!
You could try to adopt an injured or disabled one. The ones that wouldn’t be able to survive in the wild.
@@hb-youtube Countless videos on YT about the difference between wild dogs and domesticated ones. That was a rather dumb post of Dowlphwin.
I fed the coyote a high velocity 30.06 lead treat.
That's it.
Justice for Peanut! 🥜😢
Astounding, and sad, that many parents aren't able to show interest, care and love for their children like these people do for a squirrel
Tom App they have their pain. It’s sad what they’ve gone through to not be able to have that instinct any longer.
@@ijustwanttosleepnow you never "lose" that instinct, if you can look your child in the eye and tell them that they are a disgrace and they regret giving birth to you then they never had it to begin with, the entire time was just them "pretending" to care

Wonderful story! I am always amazed when I find out that there are actually good, warmhearted, empathetic and loving people existing on this planet.

@@masacatior Care to elaborate why you think so?
Because this little guy will never reproduce, so it's not an evolutionary advantage. No matter how well fed and happy and cared for he is, no matter how long he lives, no matter any other factors in a happy life, if he doesn't breed then the traits are an evolutionary dead end.

I never knew that a squirrel could be a home pet. But animals are amazing. They will always surprise you.
@@michaelrockwell9691 I get more than a bit nervous when I watch videos like this, and see people feeding them by hand, or play-wrestling with them and putting their finger near the squirrels mouth.

Lol, my Dodo playlist is longer than The Great Wall of China.
You can create your own playlist just for this channel, or heck, for each adorable animal story on this channel
For a moment, I thought you were gonna say that you want a new pet every time you see a video. Because that's how I feel!
You know you right!
Beautiful job! Our Sammy was much younger but grew up and played the same way. He's off to "college" and managed to find a gf, but still comes back home sometimes to do "laundry and eat" lol.
Your channel is so inspiring
❤Love, love, LOVE💓 this story!! Thank You for being AMAZING parents! And for sharing your story!❤🐾
