I have not done the Carlsbad caverns I think since I was pregnant with my daughter and she's 33 and I was 8 months pregnant with her when I did the three hour walk the full tour they almost did not let me do it because I was so far along my pregnancy and so hugely pregnant but I told him I was good to go and I made the entire walk with no issues that was back when you walked all the way down and you walked all the way back up you didn't take the elevator back way that was the halfway point that was the main reason they let me do it because they did have the elevator where if I need it I could at the halfway point I can take the elevator up but I did the full walk which surprised everybody cuz I was about eight and a half months pregnant doing it course I look like I was ready to pop at the time but I enjoyed it so glad y'all had a fun time on your tour of it. This brought back so many memories for me thank you all so much for this one and brought back so many good memories from so long ago. It was before I became disabled and now I'm in a wheelchair when I'm out doing stuff so I don't think I would be able to go back there unfortunately which is really sad because it was such a beautiful place. God bless yall.
My grandfather was born in 1887 and traveled from Illinois to Carlsbad NM to be a cowboy. He was there before all of the hoopla that surrounds the place now. The cowboys would go up there for entertainment once in a while to watch the bats come out at twilight. But they did not venture into the cavern as it was very dangerous and they heard several people had gotten lost or hurt in there. He loved his life out there but the allure of my grandma brought him back to Illinois and they married in 1910. He was such a horse whisperer that when a carload of wild horses from the west would come in to Quincy Illinois the sellers would hire him to ride the horses out of the boxcars and gentle them down. He did that until they quit bringing the horses in when tractors became popular. He never owned a vehicle. He believed in horses and buggies and used them daily for farming until he quit farming in the mid 40s and then my dad and/or his siblings would drive grandpa and grandma wherever they wanted to go. He traveled out there with my great grandparents blessing at the young age of 16. They must have thought he was very capable at that age. His application to be a cowboy was showing them what he could do with horses. He passed! I've been there twice and wondered at his courage to do something like that when he was so young. He got do do what most of us only dream of.
Hey guys my name is Nick from Pink Oklahoma. I'm from the Carlsbad area. We would go to the caverns every year and walked in and out. We always looked forward to But it wasn't until I was old that I realized why my dad insisted that we always walked back out. It makes for quiet and peaceful ride home!!! LoL I love your show keep up the good work.
that thing with appointments is the same at mammoth caverns in Kentucky and Alcatraz island... I have a stalagmites from Carlsbad caverns my mom and dad got it in the 1950s for their wedding trip. I think in the 1950s they were still doing some construction on some of the trail and obviously they sold the stalagmites that had to be removed for the trails and sold them for money to pay for the trails and upkeep and such. If we ever get an EMT that CDs are probably the only way we can communicate
We are spelunkers, and have done wild tours of WInd Cave and Jewell Cave. We were going to do a convention at Carlsbad, but didn't have the time on our month long trip.
So many interesting caves in the Guads. That's impressive that south Louisiana was reached on amateur radio. SAR, 4x4, hikers, etc. regularly use amateur radio, and cell coverage can be non-existent, overloaded, down, etc.
😁👍🏻❤️ loved the video & info, great to know. Went there as a kid a long long time ago, don’t remember much of anything about it. So nice to see. Makes me want to go again with adult eyes. BUT the bit that made me laugh was the very end bit of Mike running back up to retrieve the camera. Sorry I laughed Mike, it was too cute. But RESPECT for how hard you work for video content.. 👍🏻
We loved our walk through the caverns. We took the elevator down. You definitely need a tripod for photography down there. My trick for unlighted areas was the BULB setting with a cable shutter release and off camera manual flash. I would point the camera at what I wanted then fire off the flash several times to paint the area in light, then release the shutter. I also took a bunch of pictures at 200 to 400 mm to get features on the cavern ceilings way up in the air. I liken the caverns to being inside about 5 or 7 superdomes all together at the same time. Thanks for the show, enjoyed it.
Hi Mike, Hi Kerry, Its so good to see you all looking so well and enjoying yourselves. Well Mike you sure know how to make your pictures look so good, Its a good thing you know what you are doing or we wouldnt get to see what a beautiful place you have just visited and I agree with Kerry it would be worth a second look just to take more of it in.. Thanks for sharing your trip I enjoyed seeing it.. Take care the three of you and look forward to seeing you again soon..Love you both..K.
Thanks for the Carlsbad Tour guys. Something l always wanted to do. Great adventure and a joyous experience. God bless you! They say they are still exploring and finding more, more, more. As of 1yr ago 135miles explored. Lechuguilla supposed to be one of the most beautiful in the world. Oooops, now I just heard over 149mls
Glad you got to see this , the last time I was there was in 1967 a little over a month before I went overseas . Thanks for showing this video , brought back memories plus showed me the improvements to the tour , I had less finished trail to follow - a trail but not as nice . Stay safe , have fun .
Those pictures were awesome!!! Wow... There are so many places that I need to go and see!!! Loved the video, as always... Can hardly wait for next week!!!
Amazing pictures! This is on my bucket list! Love exploring caves! My wife and I got married in a cave in Upstate NY. Howe Caverns. Looking forward to your videos as always. Stay safe and Happy Holidays!
WOW! THAT IS AMAZING. I DID SOME SPELUNKING IN WEST VIRGINIA WHEN I WAS YOUNG BUT IT WAS NOTHING LIKE THIS. I CAN'T HELP TO THINK WHAT THE FIRST PEOPLE WHO SAW IT THOUGHT OF IT DOZENS OR HUNDREDS OF YEARS AGO.... ANOTHER GREAT VID GUYS, THANKS A LOT. AND YOUR RIGHT KERRY, MIKE IS PULLING SOME BENJAMIN BUTTON THING OFF.
I love love love all your videos!! You guys go to the most beautiful, unique, interesting and neatest places. I always get excited when I see a new upload. Thank you so much for sharing your awesome adventures!! ❤
Stunning cave what a treat great film work Mike I've seen some caves and you really brought out the beauty of mother nature. Thanks for sharing this treasure most people will live their whole lives and never see it. Great video it's been a blast following you from the beginning of your build to dwelling in caves the fun never end with you both.
Beautiful video when I went I was with my cousin and her husband she was disabled so we took the elevator down and up that was in 97 I was in better shape I don't think I could have walked it at that time now for sure I know I couldn't do it I would have to use the elevator again. Keep up the good work stay safe stay strong stay healthy God bless and enjoy life 🎄✌💖💪👨🍳🎅🚌🌻👍
That looked amazing. 😲 I don't think that I would put radon in the brochure either. 🤣 That medalion was super cool. I definitely need to go see the bat show. 💕 I'm kinda claustrophobic but that cave seemed to be LOTR dwarf city size. 🤞 So glad that you guys did the explanation of the video at the end. Thanks for taking us along. 💞 What did it smell like? -Troy & Aimee
Great photography. I would like to ask what brand / model camera you used. I was also going to ask if you just aimed and shot the photo's, but you answered that towards the end of the video. Thank you.
That is a very good question. I would say that the entrance to the cave is not wheelchair accessible but you could take the elevators down and I believe that you could do most of the lower cave by wheelchair with not too much effort.
Honestly being in Southern New Mexico in the middle of summer is probably not the place you want to be. I think our timing was perfect for this though it wasn't planned that way.

Nothing was explained like that so I would imagine no. I'm sure there would have been some kind of giant exhibit in the visitor center but there wasn't.
Where's the new subs? I think you need to do some collaborations with some older established youtubers! I notice the numbers usually jump pretty good when that happens! Your stuff is too good to be staying at the same place.

As a former cave guide here in the UK, I think I would've collapsed with sheer relief at you not falling or giving birth on one of my tours 😳💪😁

Wow, so neat about the stalagmite from the 1950's!
Went there with my Grandparents in 1998. Great memories.
Fantastic pictures, Mike! Thanks for doing that and sharing it with us.
🇺🇲👍🏼😎👍🏼🌴🚐 Awesome caves
Gr8 pics & adventure 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Ham Radio is great if the grid goes down. I know in weather related instances here in Alabama the Ham Radios sure came in handy I’ve been told.
PS the photography was amazing thank you Mike.
I don't know if the other areas are open now ? They have more difficult guided areas to go on ! Maybe for your next trip ?
Another great episode of National Skooliegraphic. Thanks guys
We are spelunkers, and have done wild tours of WInd Cave and Jewell Cave. We were going to do a convention at Carlsbad, but didn't have the time on our month long trip.
We went there in 2017. Fantastic. Even saw the batflight 🧡. That was the highlight of my Day. Thousands of bats flying
So many interesting caves in the Guads. That's impressive that south Louisiana was reached on amateur radio. SAR, 4x4, hikers, etc. regularly use amateur radio, and cell coverage can be non-existent, overloaded, down, etc.
I talked to Finland the other day as well.
So glad you explained about the photography. We were at Mammoth Cave last weekend and found a GoPro useless. My iPhone took a fairly dark video.
😁👍🏻❤️ loved the video & info, great to know. Went there as a kid a long long time ago, don’t remember much of anything about it. So nice to see. Makes me want to go again with adult eyes. Kerry is so glad you were as amused as she was by that bit of video😁. As the runner, I was smoked when I reached the top!
You look great Mike from shaving! :)
So cool 😎😎 ,I live in Hobbs NM, about 50 minutes from Carlsbad caverns,I am in My 60++ so glad you're family enjoyed it!¡!!!

I just kept saying wow, wow, wow! I knew there was something different but absolutely did not realize it was Mike’s beard!
I was there in like 1980 or 1981.
Thanks for the Carlsbad Tour guys. Something l always wanted to do. Great adventure and a joyous experience. God bless you! They say they are still exploring and finding more, more, more. Great comment Brian! Thank you❤️
@@BussyMcBusface straight from the heart guys. I was so blown away from watching it I watched it again the scale is gigantic.

I grew up in new mexico. If you've never been to the caverns GO you won't regret it!
Holy BAT WINGS 🥴🥴🥴
Hay l like the ham radio part of your video’s
Great video and info guys. Thanks
I've now been down 16 times. Would do it again.
$4 for water?
Yeah, this was the scalpers at the entrance to the cave outside of the park
That looked amazing. 😲
I don't think that I would put radon in the brochure either. 🤣
That medalion was super cool. I definitely need to go see the bat show. 💕
I'm kinda claustrophobic but that cave seemed to be LOTR dwarf city size. 🤞
So glad that you guys did the explanation of the video at the end. Thanks for taking us along. 💞

Loved the jumping photos. Are your stills digital or do they still make film ?
These are Digital. While they still make film, it just isn't good for the digital life that we live.
Great photography. I would like to ask what brand / model camera you used. I was also going to ask if you just aimed and shot the photo's, but you answered that towards the end of the video. Thank you.
This is a Canon M50 which is a great vlogging camera but still can take wonderful photographs.
I have a general question. Is is ADA? Wheelchair accessible? Just curious.
That is a very good question. I would say that the entrance to the cave is not wheelchair accessible but you could take the elevators down and I believe that you could do most of the lower cave by wheelchair with not too much effort.
@@BussyMcBusface Thank you. It would be a power wheelchair of course. 🙃🙄🤗
I believe that means Mike will be posting on his channel a ham check in.
I would like to say I was going to except I left the film for that in the GoPro that I also left at Carlsbad caverns...
Sounds like a thing for the middle of a heat wave. Would that be the best time to tour?
Honestly being in Southern New Mexico in the middle of summer is probably not the place you want to be. I think our timing was perfect for this though it wasn't planned that way.
Dang Mike looks 15 years younger with that shaved face, but you had some beautiful pictures of the cave.
📷 🎞....🤓 Mike ?.....I have not really thought about this till watching you video.....🤓my ? is are you using 35mm film or just digital? If its digital, why does digital 4k require long exposure......is this a dumb question? 🤓
Jeff, 73s
I am using digital but the images were not video. They were digital still photos that we imported into the video.
He looks like the father from "my 3 sons" sorry mike looking good man
Any prehistoric people once lived there or dinosaur bones? : )
Nothing was explained like that so I would imagine no. I'm sure there would have been some kind of giant exhibit in the visitor center but there wasn't.
WHO KNOWS WHAT WORLDS LIE BENEATH OUR FEET.

Peter, we are totally with you on that!
Maybe you both are going diving? With masks that need to snuggly fit your faces ? 😀
Very good guess!
So glad you explained about the photography. We were at Mammoth Cave last weekend and found a GoPro useless. My iPhone took a fairly dark video.
