3:20 surprisingly his talking voice is VERY soft. But I get what you mean, what Serj is doing is adding grit and force to his talking voice and thats what makes it sound like it, thats the thing that you like, and I like it too. What I think is sad is that nowadays Serj doesn't add that grit and force to his voice since he struggles doing it. I think he needs to get some Vocal lessons.

SOAD definitely have a distinctive sound. As another commenter suggested, doing 5 by Muse would be the dream. You'd have a full back catalogue to choose from! Another great upload guys, enjoyed this one.

Have to end the marathon with "Chop Suey". Arguably the most iconic rock song of the time.
This makes me want to see you react to Faith No More. The Real Thing, Land of Sunshine, Everything’s Ruined and Stripsearch are good places to start. It’s amazing how many bands Faith No More has influenced. Great work!

They were my first concert back when I was in middle school. One of the best concert experiences ever.
I love this band so much, they literally were the music i played non stop on guitar and i learned so much of their music while learning guitar. I would play their entire albums or a live show just so i could gain endurance and stamina in my fingers and hand muscles lol. Love these reactions they are so genuine and amazing to hear from a music teacher your own thoughts and feelings. Glad you're falling in love with them. I agree that their music definitely takes you on a journey. A wild one at that haha. The lyrics are a whole nother journey :P Thanks for the content

Holy mountains, Aerials, Question, ATWA, Streamilne, B.Y.O.B. and *Protect the land* (released in 2020) are all great songs imo! It's worth checking them out- if not in reaction videos, then at least in your free time! :)

I don't know if you have done a lot of research on Soad or Serj Tankien in general but he WAS an Opera singer. That is why his singing is so tight and he can play with tones so much. Now he kind of does his own thing with with an actual orchestra... I think you would like some of that stuff too.
This was my middle school days. I remember my mom buying this album for me because it had the "parental advisory" on it. Dang, bringing back memories. But also, you should do more Sleep Token. Or Of Mice and Men. Love your stuff, sir!
Never realized I need an acoustic piano cover on SOAD songs till now
Ive seen them live many times. Each show has its own vibe. You should have been at the ozzfest in boston where godsmack "told people to chill and the police were outside ready to come in". Then they were boo'd off stage and covered it mud balls. System came out and serj said "are you motherfuckers ready to die!" And the fucking crowd went crazy. Not one ball of mud went toward that stage when they played.
YOU NEED TO DO the Mars Volta. I saw them live with System of a Down back in like 2005 and it was the best time. I was like 12 but still it was the best live performance ever
You're right about Serj and the punk rock elements. There are hints of Jello Biafra from Dead Kennedys in there, for sure
You need to check out the entire Toxicity album. Hands down one of the best metal albums of the 21st century
I've loved this song since I was in middle school. The last "disorder" Serj holds is so perfect. The way he maintains the breath control for the whole duration, and the way he shapes the envelope of the sound all the way to the end of the note are just so cool and I geek out every time I hear it. He's not just sustaining that note, but he has a destination in mind and he knows just how to get there.
SOAD was such a big part of my childhood and one of my first metal loves. Your 5 BY series really brings back memories and I love your piano breakdowns!

They most definitely are a band that you can play every album from start to beginning and love every song. I highly suggest you checkout all their stuff in your own time.
Can't mention enough the drummer John Dolmayan, who was heralded as one of the very best Rock/Metal drummers of the early 2000's. He has made the cover of Modern Drummer magazine on multiple occasions, which is a sure sign he was among the very elite of his time as a percussionist, and as a drummer I very much looked up to when I was learning to play as a teenager.
By the way, I see a lot of people recommending the same popular SOAD songs (Chop Suey, BYOB, etc.). And they are good songs, but they have better songs that weren't as main stream, like Lost in Hollywood, Revenga, Cigaro, ATWA.

I've never been to one or their concerts, but now that you mention these guys must be fun to see live, I'm thinking of that concert they played in their home country, Armenia, in 2015...The crowds sure seemed to have the best time of their lives.. 🙂 If you have the chance, check it out...

They just had a concert the other day, too few and far between if you ask me. They played 31 songs and they left out at least 30 or 40 more great songs, All of their songs are actually really great. Metro from Dracula 2000 is an awesome tune.
It’s been 10 months.... I must selfishly ask for more System of a Down. Specifically the song Question. It has crazy time signatures and vocals and drums.

I have seen these guys live, and yes, it was amazing!
So cool to see someone so talented on the keyboards. If you like rhythm and melody changes, system is the band. As another great youtube react channel says, system always manages to put 2-3 songs inside 1.
