      Hey pretty lady, many years ago when I was managing 5 garage bands in the Echo Park-Silver Lake area of L.A., we heard that Leon Russell’s studio, Shelter Studio, was burning down. When we got there it was ashes. We came back the next day with all the guys in our bands, a motley crew of Irish, German, Mexican, Chinese, Japanese, Filipinos, Italian, Slovenian and Native Americans. When we got there, there were 3 other crews of local bands beginning to sift through the remains of the studio. There was us, (the Alleyheads), there were the Hollywood Dogs, the Ivar Boys and the Hollywood Stoners( not to be confused with the East Hollywood Stoners). A battle soon ensued over the ownership of a spiral staircase and the soundproof glass and tiles of the recording areas, which were pretty much left untouched. Of course, we well fed, strong limbed and street fightin’ sons of the working class, beat up and chased off those skinny, pale skinned, underfed heroin addicts in no time. And we were outnumbered at least 4 to 1. It was glorious. We set the stuff up in our own studios in Echo Park about a month later. Then my guitar player’s older brother kicked us out of our own studio so he could use it as his office, a shipping company. Since he was bigger and older than us, we gave it up. Back to renting out recording studios for us. But the live gigs in old abandoned theatres and dancehalls were the best. Oh, and I still have recording tapes of Leon Russell and Phoebe Snow that I found in the rubble. Could never play them because they played back at 15” per second. I wonder what hidden secrets are there to be found. Dang, all that happened 45 years ago.

    Yeah, Moving off the top of that hill is is an obvious move for him in this day and age. It's only a matter of time before LA gets the big one as well as fires, mudslides and all.
    Jim's best talent in my opinion is his passion for the music and his ability to share that with the listener. I met him at KNAC and he was a real fan of the music as well as a pro DJ that lifted that station up. Happy trails Jim Ladd!

      It is better to be in a house on rock during an earthquake than it is to be in a house in the basin. Soil turns to liquid in an earthquake whereas rock shakes.
      It would also be a safe place in a mudslide, but a wildfire would indeed be an issue.

      Funny you mention that, as I asked him the same thing. He said the 94’ quake had a minimal effect, as he is higher in the hill and there was almost no damage. He always felt secure in the home and the caissons go deeply in the hill. Both the geological and structural engineer said the home was on solid ground. 👌🏼

    • @screwyootube1
      @screwyootube1 6 лет назад +1

      Yes, but it's a lot more subtle there (on his FB page). This one has it as the title of the friggin' clip, and his photo for the index picture! He's not Joe Schmo, he is Jim Ladd, and one of the most well-known people in radio in the biz. Can you not imagine the problems this may cause? All you have to do it look it up on Google Maps, and go there, and boom, you're a nuisance. I have to wonder if this is how they handle all their celebrity clients. Why not just leave the address off the title, and give it to those who call the realtor wanting to set up a tour? Seems irresponsible. I just hope this doesn't cause problems.
      It would be completely different, if it were already vacated. Get my drift?

    • @SuddenImpact53
      @SuddenImpact53 6 лет назад +4

      As a loyal fan of Jim from day one I have learn several things about him. Yes he is a private person. Example recently being off the air and not revealing why. That is his right & I respect that. As far as nut jobs showing up, that could have happened a long time ago. All you have to do is research property deeds and even if it is in another name that too can be discovered in time. Bottom line I am sure security and privacy have been considered in the sale of his home. This is not something you or I need to concern our self's with. Jim will be fine. As far as his FB page he keeps it pretty much inline with his show and not his personal life. All the talk about about the sale has been on the realator's page.

    I don’t get this guy’s popularity; or his credibility as a journalist. Maybe he’s not one, I do not know. But what I do know is that he contributes nothing profound , nothing interesting in what he says. An example, I was watching The Doors documentary and what he says has no value. Once, he quotes a line from LA Woman and says it’s poetry. Okay, how? Every comment I’ve ever heard is superficial and inferior. In the same documentary, compare what he says to what everyone else interprets. At least Fricke can relate the lyrics to a meaning. Manzerk adds more depth by relating the song to books and authors.
    I bet every interview this guy ever gave was phony and without substance. But there he is, hobknobbing with lyricist with depth.
