for those who have trouble trying to constantly click and switch from A to あ on the bottom right in an english keyboard, the shortcut can be done by pressing alt + ~ this will help you swtich faster rather than having to click on the bottom right corner. :) Hope this helps
My setup was a little weird. I followed the installation steps but when I pressed a key, the "A" key for example, I'd get "ち". I found my keyboard was converted to an actual Japanese keyboard. The letters did not represent the Japanese sound and no auto complete. To fix this, I had to right click the hiragana in the toolbar and switch 'kana input' to off.

Thank you for the tutorial, which is so easy to follow :) Just one question: How to type hiragana instead of Kanji? Seems it doesn't provide that option... :(
No problem :) and of course. So when your typing, and you've switched it to Japanese, it should start by typing hiragana. If you don't want it to switch to kanji as your typing out the full sentences, click enter after you finish typing each word. That will make it so that it that word is locked with whatever you have already, and then you can type the next word etc. When you hit space after typing a word it'll change to the kanji or katakana it thinks you want to use, which more times than not is not the right one for beginners XD
This doesn't work for me. I've tried everything, but every time I start typing, or click on something and start typing, the hiragana reverts to the letter "A". And yes, I've tried listening to the comments but nothing appears to be working.
I'm not positive this will work, but first, I would try uninstalling it, then when you have a strong internet connection redownload it. I know it sounds like a lame answer, but it's helped me more times than I can say in the past XD
Have you tried clicking in the box you want to type Japanese in, then switching the A to an あ? If that doesn't work I'd uninstall, reboot the computer, then reinstall and try again. There could be some other keyboard function interfering. Also make sure caplock is off. That won't fix your problem, but the cap lock can make it confusing to someone who's using it for the first time :) hope this helps.
Thank you so much! どうもありがとう。 Its important to note that you must spell the words phonetically on an english keyboard. For instance, "domo arigato." =/= どうもありがとう。. Instead, try "doumo arigatou."
I would start with uninstalling and redownloading it if it's still not working. After that, if it doesn't work. Go to your computers "time and language" settings Then "language" Then under preferred languages click "Japanese" (If you don't see Japanese, then it wasn't downloaded) Then "options" Double check to make sure it downloaded and installed the handwriting and language pack. Let me know if this helps :)
Hi, when I type watashi, it just appears something like this "てちかちとくに" instead of what are shown on your screen. What is the problem? Do I have to configure something ?
Why is it when I type a word in English, hiragana characters which sound completely different show up? For example if I type aka, hiragana characters that sound completely different to "aka' come up?
@@DYCEQUIRK No I mean "Aka" works most of the time for me but most letters do not and I'm trying to spell my name "Dylan" for my steam name for a game called Brawlhalla.

I have trouble trying to type "two o'clock" in Kanji efficiently. When I want to type "にじ" with Kanji, the suggestion for "二時" won't appear in the first page of suggestions. As a workaround, I have to type "二時半" and then delete the "半" to type what I want.
That's one way to do it. It also may take less clicks on the keyboard than other ways; however, the Japanese keyboard that you downloaded likely also came with a predictive kanji converter, so if you type "niji" then go down the list of options until you see 2時 and do it a couple times, it should eventually start suggesting that over other options. It's also may keep suggesting a 2 instead of 二 because, in Japan, it's more often written 2時 than 二時
Wonderful video、てゃんks!(I think)部tw but how do we get out of ... I just did. CTRL+alt gets us out of Japanese character mode. Now, to get back in, あ、I just did the same, CTRL+alt. This toggles back and forth. Great. Love the final skit!!! Oh, by the way, the input mode should be set to "kana input off."
Thank you so much! And nice find!! I've been meaning to look up the hotkey for that XD and thanks :) definitely miss that little guy right now >< (my cat) Haven't gotten him to Japan yet.
Hmm, I'd try restarting the computer (just to make sure no setting was changed causing it to happen) Then I'd reopen whatever program your using to type Japanese on and switch to the Japanese keyboard again. Not sure if you know or not, but that character is chi (ち) so it is pretty strange that it pops up for あ 🤔 let me know how it turns out.
Hey I had the same issue, and spent the most amount of time trying to fix it. Basically its probably the toggle "kana input" if you right click the capitol A, its in that. That basically turns your english layout to a japanese keyboard layout. But with it off it types phonetically like actual kirgana sounds using english characters.
Mine says different things than all the tutorials I've seen like so I opened settings to language but it's labeled as "Add a preferred language" is that the same thing? I'm afraid I might do something wrong I know I'm doing things right I just think I'm doing them wrong it also says "Choose a language to install" So I guess I'm doing it right
Hmm, well I'm not certain, but the first thing I would try uninstalling and reinstalling everything. Just try doing what I did in the video where I removed it so I could show you all how to download it :) if the option isn't there, then that means it wasn't installed completely in the first and you've found your issue :)
Yeah, I believe you type the main character then there is a button left or right of the way button. I don't have one myself XD so I have to try to remember from the last time I used one.
Usually when it does that for me I click in the box I want to write then go click the language stuff, then click in the box again and try to type. :) Let me know if that helps.
It depends on some computer games you need to change the in game settings to allow for it or to change the entire games language. In some games you can click where you're going to type then click the icon in the bottom corner and change it manually, and there is also a hot key you can use by clicking ALT shift to change the language, but I've had very mixed results and am not 100% sure how to make it work in every situation 😔 I'm sorry, but hope this helps
That is true, but I did want to pass on that info since it doesn't always get the kanji you want :) and for me I need to click space after I finish typing a word for it to change to kanji 🤔 does yours just do it when you click enter? Also thanks for checking out the video and the input :)
From what I found, you may have a single language version of windows operating system. If you want to add another, sadly you'll need to upgrade you current license. 😂 no luck, I don't know if it's just the model of computer I have, because when I looked again all the languages expected English only had display options
Mine only said install language pack and Set as my Windows display language, but why? edit: when I download it i click the A but dint do a thing, why wont it work? please reply back
Not sure exactly why, but try clicking where you want to type then going to the bottom corner of the screen and clicking the a and switching it to hiragana. Sometimes you can switch it and then if you weren't clicked in the location that you wanted to type in, it won't work.
@@dum355 hmmm try it t in another program first. If you haven't yet, open a word doc. Click in the word document, then go to the bottom and click the ENG and switch to Japanese. Then click the A and see if it changes to あ. If you've already tried in word try doing the same thing in a Google chrome search bar.
It really depends on the game. Sometimes the function will work other times no. I think it depends on whether your version of the game supports foreign characters.
Make sure you click in the page or place you want to type Japanese then change the A in the bottom corner. For example if you turn on the Japanese setting, THEN open a word doc and click in the word doc the Japanese keyboard won't be on. Click in the place you want to type Japanese then change the setting to Japanese :) let me know if it works
@@oofero3476 hmmm. Some programs don't allow for the different characters and so it could be that, but I really think that's not the issue. So you did click the ENG switch to Japanese, then click the place you want to type, then clicked on the A and switched it to the Japanese characters? If so, I'm not completely sure what happened... I guess I'd be curious if it's working in other programs at all like word. And if it still doesn't work I would probably try uninstalling and reinstalling.

I know I'm doing things right I just think I'm doing them wrong it also says "Choose a language to install"
So I guess I'm doing it right
Yeah it sounds like Alright :)

どういたしまして! Glad I could help; D
how did you get the old style hiragana?
At what point in the video are you referring to?
ありがと
I love it💖💖
Ahh thanks for checking out the video! Glad you liked it!
Do you know how to add dakuten/handakuten to the letters?
Yes, just type the the phonetic sound you're going for :) so だ is DA. ぴゃ is PYA. Etc :)
I have the language pack downloaded already but I can't select Japanese in the bottom right , Japanese isn't an option for some reason any help?
Hmm, well I'm not certain, but the first thing I would try uninstalling and reinstalling everything. Just try doing what I did in the video where I removed it so I could show you all how to download it :) if the option isn't there, then that means it wasn't installed completely in the first and you've found your issue :)
is their a way to type using dakuon with the Japanese keyboard?
Yeah, I believe you type the main character then there is a button left or right of the way button. I don't have one myself XD so I have to try to remember from the last time I used one.

Really helpful but for some reason I can not seem to keep the Japanese keyboard up. The moment I type it changes back to a. any way to fix this?
Usually when it does that for me I click in the box I want to write then go click the language stuff, then click in the box again and try to type. :) Let me know if that helps.
thanks
No problem :)
wait how do you do it in games and stuff?
It depends on some computer games you need to change the in game settings to allow for it or to change the entire games language. In some games you can click where you're going to type then click the icon in the bottom corner and change it manually, and there is also a hot key you can use by clicking ALT shift to change the language, but I've had very mixed results and am not 100% sure how to make it work in every situation 😔 I'm sorry, but hope this helps
is there any way to use dakuon?
Yes, just type the phonetic sound. So de for で
thanks.
@@dipstick. No, problem :)
You dont need to click on words to automatically convert to kanji, the computer's dictionary does it automatically.
That is true, but I did want to pass on that info since it doesn't always get the kanji you want :) and for me I need to click space after I finish typing a word for it to change to kanji 🤔 does yours just do it when you click enter? Also thanks for checking out the video and the input :)
It doesn't work for me. It says my windows license supports only one display language. what to do now?
From what I found, you may have a single language version of windows operating system. If you want to add another, sadly you'll need to upgrade you current license. Here's a link to what I found.

I have a problem where it only displays the languge, no other features like typing or anything else
Any luck since 5 days ago? Sorry been pretty sick the last two weeks XD
😂 no luck, I don't know if it's just the model of computer I have, because when I looked again all the languages expected English only had display options
How do i type ー?

I can't type ろ key on my keyboard, what should I do?
W ending!
Lol thanks :)
@@DYCEQUIRK I tried it out but it would just switch back to A, i dont know if its my computer doing this or not.
@@DYCEQUIRK yup still does the same thing, i did it to my chrome, my notes even at youtube and its still not working. but thank you for helping though
@@dum355 hmmmm, not sure why it isn't working 🤔 can you check your "language preferences" and tell me is Japanese and English are listed.

My computer says that the japanese keyboard is not yet ready. Can someone help me?
why does my ime kept getting disabled?
sorry i accident put the comment kawaii I was putting it on another cooking channel video
Lol no problem XD
Cab u type it on games
It really depends on the game. Sometimes the function will work other times no. I think it depends on whether your version of the game supports foreign characters.
If you give it a try let me know how it goes :)
The A changes back as soon as i type something
Make sure you click in the page or place you want to type Japanese then change the A in the bottom corner. For example if you turn on the Japanese setting, THEN open a word doc and click in the word doc the Japanese keyboard won't be on. Click in the place you want to type Japanese then change the setting to Japanese :) let me know if it works
@@DYCEQUIRK as soon as i click it when im in a place i want to type it immediatley switches back
@@oofero3476 Can I ask what program of place you're wanting to type? (Word doc, game chat, etc)
@@DYCEQUIRK language learning things or chats
@@oofero3476 hmmm. Some programs don't allow for the different characters and so it could be that, but I really think that's not the issue. So you did click the ENG switch to Japanese, then click the place you want to type, then clicked on the A and switched it to the Japanese characters? If so, I'm not completely sure what happened... I guess I'd be curious if it's working in other programs at all like word. And if it still doesn't work I would probably try uninstalling and reinstalling.

@@DYCEQUIRK もちろん!When I was little, I got into Japanese culture by watching anime on cartoon network and learning about Japan in primary school. I'm very happy that those events happened in my life 😄
