- What an incredible place!
We spent a few days exploring the Baviaanskloof. We’ve had to split this episode into to 2 parts as we filmed a lot during our time in the Baviaanskloof.
The Baviaanskloof is such an epic place for overlanders to explore. The roads can be pretty hectic in sections which did put our Defender to the test but as always our Landy out did itself!
Will living full time in our Land Rover Defender 110 camper ever get old…
We hope you enjoy guys!

Harry
We camp there in January this year. No 7 camp site to be exact. Beautiful hike along the river towards the mountains. 👍🥂
It’s a stunning area, love it! 😀
I’ve got to say that cottage pie looks absolutely fantastic 😍
It was so delicious!
Loved the rough (4x4) tracks. Fantastic video, Stay Safe. 🌈👍
Thanks G
I love the way you guys are cooking good stuff on the road on camping gear! Love it.
It’s the best part of it 😀
you realise there is a cookery book in this!@@TheLandyExpedition
Every year there is a mountain bike race through the Baviaanskloof. It's 240km and takes about 12 hours. I had the privilege of doing it once and it's certainly a pristine natural environment. I'd say one of the Eastern Cape's best kept secrets.
Awesome! A friend of mine has done that race he said it was one of the bike races he’s ever done. Loved it very much!
Cheers
Harry
Brilliant update and the food you are cooking looks bloody amazing. Looking forward to the next update.
Thanks Adam!
I have done the baviaans many times with my old 200 tdi looking forward yo the next trip with my td5
Such a beautiful part of the eastern cape!
Harry
@@TheLandyExpedition SA's best kept secret? Did you guys go to the fig Forrest?
The food you guys make is amazing ! We love your footage !
Hey mate! Glad you like it 😀👍🏻
Looked like a fun 4x4 track and nice countryside to over land in . Food looked good (it’s all ways better when camping ) now I’m hungry 😁 . Thanks for sharing your wonderful journey with us . Cheers from Steve Stott in Sutherlin Oregon U.S.A. :) :) 🌍🍻😁👍🏼
Cheers Steve! Good always tasted better at camp you are right 😀👍🏻
@@TheLandyExpedition 😁
very keen to know the route you took? my wife and "escaped there" during covid for a weeks camping and took some back roads and entered from the north east through Grootrivieer Poort and it got pretty challenging. Also, compliments on how good you are pronouncing Afrikaans words
Thanks very much for the compliments! I’ll have to dig out the map to see exactly which route we took. We entered from steytlerville it was a beautiful route
Harry
@@TheLandyExpedition yeah, us as well - stunning but it was intimidating at first for a first so called overland, off road trip, that wasnt planned
Paul Kaye, give me a shout next time you’re down and I’ll give you a list of the best stopovers for a Baviaans trip. Kudu Kaya on the eastern side and Doringkloof on the western side are winners.
There are also a couple of “secret” routes, if you want to test your 4x4 skills and bravery… 😂
I think we went a lot of the same route as you did, we have never 4x4'ed before but thank goodness we were in a 4x4, it took us ages, 3 hours to drive 15K of the route - and we were using Google maps (rookie error) to get us from Oudtshoorn to Patensie and to enter the Baviaans, my wife had a huge panic attack on one of the narrow, steep descents, but we both loved the adventure - we finally got to the camp after 10 hours of driving from our start point, that first beer tasted awesome
The first beer of any adventure is the best part. Some of this driving is definitely testing of anyone in drivers or passenger seat! Such a great adventure.
I wonder if people who follow you in the UK and northern hemisphere realise that it is SA winter, and almost dark by 5pm
I know! It’s crazy people think we’re in Africa it must be boiling, sure in the day it gets hot but at night we’re wrapped up in sleeping bags and diesel heater on 😂
Looks like you guys did the T2 route, Steytlerville to Patensie via Grootrivierpoort (what was the water crossing like down there?).
You have been really lucky with your choices of camping spots, Kudu Kaya is an absolute gem, especially if it is hot and you can take the hike up the gorge to the swimming holes. And it needs to be hot, it’s not called the Ysrivier (Ice river) for nothing!
Looking at the weather, I’m guessing you were there a few weeks back?
Hey there! Yes I believe that’s correct the route we took! This was a few weeks back yeah. Probably something like 3/4 weeks delayed on RUclips.. instagram we are more up to date with. The editing process is a long one!
Harry

So I just started following you guys here about a month ago. Haven’t had a chance to go back and look through your videos. What nation are you guys actually from? You certainly sound like you’re from one of the UK countries. But where are you actually from?
I reckon there is a South African heritage there somewhere the way Harry pronounces local names so well, Flipping Lekker gave it away in this one....😊
@@MikeLangfordGoogle didn’t ask you not interested in your opinion
Hi David, yes we’re from England 😀
Haha! I have South African mates but no heritage, that I know of anyway! 😀
Two possible mistakes... the relationship does not seem at ease and a Land Cruiser would have been a more sensible option.Bon Voyage.
(Things could improve once you get into the groove of overlanding and become more relaxed)
Thanks for your comment. We’ll be sure to work on our “mistakes” and strive to do a lot better in future videos.
Have a awesome day.
Chloe ☺️
I don't see too many mistakes. Two young people having adventures that most people can only dream of. I am glad that I have found your channel and keep doing what you do. I have a Defender 110 so I think you have the right vehicle! Safe travels.
