We have to do it like Critical role and save it by crowdfunding our series. Critical role is an American web series featuring a group of professional voice actors and actors playing Dungeons & Dragons. The series first aired live on Twitch in March 2015 after much of the first campaign was played privately. Critical role then had the idea from their role-playing campaign for a real one 22-minute animated special titled "The Legends of Vox Machina". The team initially pitched the special to traditional media studios but had little to no success. They then launch a Kickstarter campaign to fund the special. They wanted $750,000 to produce the special.
The Kickstarter launched March 4, and within 40 minutes, the community gave them $1 million. By 5 p.m., the community smashed through the original stretch-goals, giving the project $3 million.
“The target was $750,000, but that was because we thought we might hit it,” Travis Willingham, Critical Role CEO and cast member, stated in their eighth Kickstarter update on March 7. Dungeon master and cast member Matthew Mercer added that they hoped they’d “hit it by the end of the campaign.”
After reworking their plan for the campaign, they changed the project from a four-part special, to a complete 10 episode season. The first two episodes would follow the original arc for the special, with the last eight following an arc in their original campaign.
However, funding all 10 would take $8.8 million. On April 4, the community heeded the call. During the first half of their regular stream after a week-long hiatus, the community raised $400,000 to ensure they would get that 10 episode series they wanted.
As of April 9, the project stands at $9,199,756 with 66,634 backers and nine days left. When the campaign closed, it was one of the most quickly funded in Kickstarter history, and was the most funded Kickstarter for TV and film projects.
In the end, they reached $11.4 million with 88,887 backers. More everything enough to produce a 10 part series. Amazon Prime then took over the series and ordered a two-season, 12-episode run. The arrangement also includes a first-look deal with Critical Role to develop additional series.
With the same method we can also save series like Amphibia , The Owl House, Gravity Falls, Star vs the Forces of Evil. As mentioned, the Kickstarter campaign for Legends of Vox Machina raised $11.4 million fromm a total of 88,887 backers. Doing the math, each backer deposited $128. I'm sure the fandom around this series can do that too.
Take Amphibia for example, I tried to find information about the production costs on the internet but couldn't find anything. All I could find was an old Gravity Falls reddit post that estimated the production cost for one episode was $500,000. Critical role had 11.4 million available for their series, so each episode costs about 1.1 million. Since I don't have exact information about the production costs of Amphibia, I can only estimate them. However, based on the quality of The Legends of Vox Machina, I would estimate that it costs well under 1.1 million per episode.
So I'm estimating the cost of producing one episode of Amphibia at $750,000. According to this, a season with 20 episodes would cost 15 million. As we saw, Critical role brought together 88,887 backers to raise $11.4 million, with each backer donating an average of $128. According to the Matt Braly Twitter account, he has 218,982 followers. We can assume that the majority of them are fans of Amphibia. Let's assume that 200,000 from within would support a Kickstarter campaign. In that case, everyone would have to donate an average of 75 US dollars to raise the sum of 15 million.
It is therefore quite possible to use crowdfunding to finance a new season of a spin-off series or a crossover in order to continue the series. We could also ask Disney because we pre-finance the series. For example, we want full 22-minute episodes, not two 11-minute episodes in a row. As I mentioned above, Critical role has an arrangement with Amazon that allows them to continue to have significant influence over the series. I would like to copy a text from an article here that I already copied from my previous comment above.
“The Legends of Vox Machina” isn’t the only entertainment based project smashing records through crowdfunding. “Mystery Science Theater 3000,” a film project that revived the original show, ended their campaign with $5.76 million and Netflix picking up the series.
Entertainment other than film also follow this trend. “Goodnight stories for Rebel Girls,” a children’s book series, previously held the title of fastest funded project on kickstarter - earning their goal of $40,000 in 30 hours - and ended their campaign with $675,614. Along with the critical success of “The Legends of Vox Machina,” these projects and the overwhelming support for them illuminate just how viable crowdfunding can be in creating entertainment.
A trend is brewing in the industry: give the power back to the consumers to pick the entertainment they wish to consume. Coupled with the popularity of streaming services over major media networks, it’s easy to see that the entertainment field is beginning to shift away from traditional media towards a new and exciting partnership between creators and consumers.
As an avid consumer of online content (including that of Critical Role) seeing projects funded by a community in support of their favorite creators thrills me to no end. I felt for a long time that the mainstream entertainment industry has been out of touch with the audiences and communities that flock to the screens. However, online content made by smaller creators who have a close tie with I their fanbase can lead to better content made by bigger budgets and an end product that services the wants and needs of not only the fans, but also the creator. I believe that we need more of these partnerships to revamp the entertainment industry and give new people the opportunity to release their creativity and provide people with content they want to see.
Fanbases are powerful entities that breathe life into the entertainment industry and would easily do their part to aid the creators they love. “The Legends of Vox Machina” is just one example of what a world of community supported content can create.
I think that the community around the series Amphibia, Gravity Falls, Star vs the Forces of Evil, and The Owl House gives up far too quickly and Disney simply accepts decisions instead of doing something about it. Unfortunately, I can't start a Kickstarter campaign myself because I'm from Germany and it's very difficult to start a Kickstarter campaign in the USA from here. But I would be willing to make my financial contribution should the community pull themselves together to organize crowdfunding. If Disney doesn't recognize the potential of its series, then we have to take action to change that. The first step to that would be discussion in the fandom on the subject.
If we can spread the idea far enough through the fandom it will reach people in the community who know how to crowdfund or anyone who knows who can and can take the lead. It would be best if FootofaFerret and The Roundtable picked this up. They both have over 1 million subscribers and if they were to crowdfund it would definitely mobilize the entire community. If you or other RUclips channels picked up the story and uploaded videos on the subject, a lot would be gained.
Also, someone should ask Critical Role for help. They know how to organize a crowdfunding and could also help with the negotiations with Disney. We could hold more crowdfundings at intervals to save the series or also combine the series The Owl House, Amphibia and Gravity Falls into a crossover series as desired in the community to save everyone together. Assuming Alex Hirsch, Dana Terrace and Matt Braly were willing to combine the series. These series are only dead if we let them.

fun fact! did you know, the reason collector was so protective of king when lulu said "stay away from my nephew" is because collector only heard belos use that word with hunter, and we all know how that went........!

Like how we not only get more Grimwalker lore with seeing Belos's Grimwalker lab but we also get to see a new glyph combo then there's the Hexsqaud making use of the memory tweezers to use Belos's teleportation glyph array. Also Hunter unlocking his teleportation ability and Luz finally gets her Palismin.

The collector "fixed" the book by crossing out a passage that said "But should they meddle in our affairs we'll clean the planet and scorch the air." To replace it with the part about playing. So is less about the collector race not meant to meddle, to the collector that we know wanting friends and not wanting to kill.

yeah, he's literally just a kid. He's immortal, sure, most likely, or semi-immortal, but he still has the mindset of a kid no older than 7-10 years old. As someone else put it, "I mean come on, have you ever seen a kid? Their actions aren't driven by maliciousness"(or something like that). Its entirely possible he doesn't realize what he's doing is wrong. He's just a bored kid, with too much power, power no kid really should have at a young age like his.
And to add to the fact that he was trapped in the tablet, most likely by the titan or when the titan fell, so he had to have spent well over a thousand, maybe even a hundred thousand years without any contact from the outside world until Phillip came along, which makes it more understandable as to why he was so angry when Belos betrayed him. And then he actually got a real friend, King, until belos manipulated the poor child again and he thought King had betrayed him too. Poor collector :(

@@theowlgang3390 I agree to all of that. I can't help but hope for a happy ending for the collector. I hope him and the king work things out. And it's more than likely king's father was the one that locked him away. Since when king and the collector first meet moments before kings released him. The collector said something along the lines of "You look like the meant man that locked me here. Are you his little baby." So after most likely king dad and then Belos, the collector has trust issues with king more than most.

The reason why the collector reacted that way when Lilith called king her nephew is because the only way he knows that word is when Belos calls hunter that so he was trying to protect him

This episode is just fantastic! I especially love Willow's character development. She tries so hard to keep it together, because she's gained the reputation as the strong one of the group after all her training and support from her friends in the previous seasons. But the more she bottles up her emotions, the more she loses control of her powers and starts to doubt herself. Only by admitting her fears and letting her emotions out, does she regain control, and is able to pull through, and be a strong member of the team again. I love the lesson this teaches, it's okay not to be strong all the time, it's okay to let people know if it's too much, and it's okay to show your emotions. There will always be someone to give you the support you need.

Edas and Lulus escape from the collectors Toy-ification is one of those points that really would have needed an episode. Same with the school stuff. I have no problem with giving Bosha and Mat Tholomule an arc, but it felt very rushed, same with the Willow subplot.

I COULD TALK ABOUT THIS EPISODE FOR HOURS OMG-
First of all- love the intro for this episode. I also love Raine's reaction to Eda's Harpy form, that i was theorizing ever since seeing the trailer.
    RAEDA FOREVER
I also love Stringbean, she is adorable, and O don't see enough people talking about her.
    ALSO HUNTLOW YAY
Luz's reaction to seeing Kikimora again was spot-on lol. I also loved the collector in this episode- the last few frames he was in were terrifying ngl- the expressions and the lighting-
so anyways huntlow is pretty much canon now :D
I think the yellow figure WAS a titan- or at least that's what it looked like. Clear and zoomed in, it looks a bit like tarak from Edge of the World. Iz also saw some people theorize that it could be King from the future coming to warn luz
Ngl i was surprised Disney let some of the things into the episode- the bloody dagger and below legit melting away being some of them- but I think it makes the episode just a little bit more interesting if that makes sense? It adds a subtle nod to a slightly darker side to the show
uhhh i was gonna say some other things but i forget
oh the scene in the detention pit with hunter and willow? amazing. I feel like it was just so well done-
and eda and lilith's new looks are amazing. I gotta say, lilith's new look surprised me when i first saw the trailer for the episode but it grew on me
and the fact that hunter immediately went to summon his staff and then realized flapjack was gone- so heartbreaking
also terrified that raine might die if belos leaves their body...
    edit: Other points
    - the collector is just a kid. He's immortal, sure, most likely, or semi-immortal, but he still has the mindset of a kid no older than 7-10 years old. As someone else put it, "I mean come on, have you ever seen a kid? Their actions aren't driven by maliciousness"(or something like that). And then he actually got a real friend, King, until belos manipulated the poor child again and he thought King had betrayed him too. Poor collector :(
    - I'm honestly annoyed at how a lot of people still refer to Hunter. I've been seeing a lot of people say things like, "Omg he's so sassy in this episode" or things like that, even saw people call him a.. wet cat... for some reason- but keep in mind for the future took place right after thanks to them, so he had no time to cope with his best friend's death, AND had to constantly be on the lookout for belos (as he thought he should have been doing i guess) and constantly having to keep moving around and stuff with no private time to actually mourn the death of flapjack.
oh and boscha DEFINETLY had a crush on amity at some point
alright please excuse my absolute essay of a review, by now :D
