You will never know how much this has freed my thinking about swing style dancing. Thank you, thank you. I come from the south and southwestern part of the USA. The dancing styles in the southwestern part are dances that are basically the Texas Two Step and several variations of two step. Dances where if the steps aren't mirrored there will be pain. I could never do dancing like you demonstrate, I always prided myself on being able to follow anyone. I could learn the steps but I couldn't figure the cues one gets from the person leading. OMG! I don't have to. Basically if we are both doing A or B then if our steps aren't mirrored, step for step, so what. The occasional difference adds a little cool to it. I feel like Dorothy. It was there all the time.

I last went to a Lindy hop work shop with my wife recently without having any previous experience in partner dancing. What happened was exactly what you describe...For a while I managed to keep the steps up, while my body wanted to move freely to the music. Ok... with the basic steps it worked ok more or less after some time, but things became worse, when more steps were introduced (6-count, 8-count and turns). That's why I find your statements so helpful and encouraging: It doesn't matter! Everything is alright! Thank you for that!

The best teachers of the arts, martial, dance or otherwise, are able to leave you with something relevant in most walks of life and rather than strict edicts focus on helping you find a flow that works for your own self discovery. I believe that this is so with Lindybeige and his advice on this matter. "It doesn't matter", in this context, feels very familiar. If you think about it, it isn't that far from the phrases many would certainly know: "the way is no way", etc. Sage advice! Bravi, bravi, bravi! To discourage limitation and to encourage expression and innovation is.. I feel.. an element most great teachers possess. Rather than lording over the works of others they help them find their own way while giving aid in the process.

I really would like to go back to school and take his classes in person. I actually stood up and gave it a try without thinking about. Thank you, sir . Don't ever turn into a Ben Stein type educator.

WHY ARE YOU DANCING WHAT I CAME HERE TO LEARN ABOUT THE ANCIENT WORLD AND HOW CYCLOPS CAN HAVE 3D VISION.

The 'Lindy" in 'Lindy Beige' is reference to the dance 'Lindy Hop". I first found his channel for the dancing, stayed for the swords.....

No no, you've got it all wrong. This is obviously some kind of ancient combat technique used by the romans.

Thanks for the end part. My gf was a pro dancer and I get so stressed trying to dance with her. I can just about waltz at 30bpm. My feet just do not care about dancing but the rest of me enjoys it.

I don't know if you did this on purpose or not, but the little snippet of video you get when hovering over the thumbnail matches perfectly with the thumbnail itself almost seamlessly. Kudos

My method of learning the Lindy involved getting drunk before I tried it.
We called it the Jitterbug, but I did learn the proper Lindy in Brooklyn NY. (After getting drunk.)

Brilliant!!! My partner has neural myopathy (thus balance issues) and is intimidated with trying the "Lindy". Love this approach. The steps will come. Start with the fun!
