subscribed, ringed the bell, stalked on twitter. What else do you want for you to try the LP chalanges on solo mode only with staple decks?
I remember saying you should play Yugioh for a video or a stream and look at what happened
Looks like mst negates
Stevie Blunder actually had a video about dragonmaid deck in master duel, if you want to continue, you should watch that.
i'm actually impressed how well he did by just pressing random buttons and a little help of chat xD
yu gi oh is a LOT to learn , not just the diffrent cards like spell ,trap , monster game mechanics like Mainphase 1 and 2 and summoning methods
like tribut, fusion , ritual , synchro , xyz , Pendelum , Link .... see? thats 7 diffrent summoning methods right there.
hope you still had fun! And perhaps play masterduel from time to time :)
“I didn’t even read what the trap card did I just played it”
Already a master duel pro
Eldlich by the sound of it.
I have several dyslexic friends who play yu-gi-oh! and this describes the experience perfectly
Monke
Indeed. Lol
He's a natural
"I didn't even read the card, I just played it" Damn, he really has what it takes to be a yugioh player.
"Oh! we can attack his life points directly" you can hear his inner child giggle
Not gonna lie, that went so much better than I expected
Remember what stevie says "if hearthstone is like chekers, magic is like chess, then yugioh is like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2"
YESS MY BROTHER IN CHRIST PREAAACH
*But you play as waifus and instead of shooting bullets, you shoot rubik's cubes.

This is actually a Farfa quote originally
That's a farfa quote lmao
BLOCK DRAGON SPECIAL SUMMON NIDDLEFIBER BRRRRRRR
I hope you do more of this. The YGO new player experience has to be documented in video form.
I get the feeling he's not going to
this
There really is something extremely entertaining about watching someone slowly unpack the emotional roller coaster ride that is yugioh. I get if he wouldn't want to, but damn it's fun to watch (at least in edited form on youtube and full on twitch).
I agree there is not enuf video documentation of new duellists in modern day yugioh and there experience.
If you want to watch new player experience YGO, check out "Day9". He has 2 videos playing the full tutorial and one match.
If you want to watch a new player actually learn YGO slowly with a friend, checkout "YugiNO to YugiPRO" playlist.
It's a lot to expect a 6 year old to understand the dragonmaid deck but he did a pretty decent showing.
Looking at my ranked experience it's alot to expect from most people it's really funny looking at people Messing up and ending up being killed by my plushy Kraken the following turn
I came back basically when master duel started and my brain still isn't big enough to pilot anything but Crusadia OTK lol
What are you talking about this deck is piloted literally by 6 year olds or 30 year old weab neckbeards lol
Certainly better than this starter Cyberse deck if he's fresh off Tutorial and expected to know the full Link ladder.
@H1k1 I mean yeah but there are simpler and more oppressive decks out there. Floowander and adventure or invoked decks for example. Dragon maid is good but at least it let's you play the game
I like how other card game players are like “I’m interested to see how they get used to the mechanics, and learn the different cards and their playstyles”
Then Yugioh’s just “WELCOME TO THE HELL OF OUR OWN CREATION”
Its really funny to see people in chat explain why a thing happened but then inevitably be forced to mention the exceptions.
Destroying a spell/trap does not negate its effect unless otherwise specificied ..... except when its a continuous spell or trap because those need to remain on the field to resolve.
@@luminous3558 becasue destroying the card doesn't negate the ACTIVATION of the effect. Continuous effects aren't activated. If there's no card, there's no continuous effect
@@GonxalusAika
There are also continuous spells with activated effects, but they fail if the card’s removed before effect resolution
@@luminous3558 With the further exception that that isn’t actually negating, so it can’t be protected against by effects that prevent negation.
@@cephalosjr.1835 this also applies to field spell destruction, they behave similar to continious spells but they have a different symbol and sit in their own specific part of the board

One of the reasons Hearthstone is so popular is probably because of how highly approachable / easy to learn it is compared to games like Magic or Yugioh or Pokemon.
It's crazy how Pokemon is like the most kid friendly franchise imaginable but you need a PHD to play the card game
Yeah but it also started off really simple and more cards were added, like a lot of card games. Pokémon TCG was also fairly limited in scope on release but that was a long time ago. Hearthstone is still simple but classic hearthstone was like babies first card game compared to how it is today lol
@@Nuvizzle wym? Pokemon is literally baby easy to play. If you find it difficult you shouldn't be playing tcgs since it's the easiest one out there.
@@Nuvizzle The moment I can get enough money to sub to Rarran and pay him to play Pokemon TCG I'm doing it lol
100%
I love that Rarran is like, "Let's go Duel a person!" And chat us immediately like "NO NO NO, DEAR GOD PLEASE NOO!"
Chat's trying to save him at all costs, lol. Bless their souls.
In fairness he did really well against the lower ranks. At least after he got the dragonmaid deck.
@@zanpakutoman4225 In actual fairness, what even was that matchmaking? I can play for 2 hours straight and see nothing but the same exact deck. He goes in his first few matches, plays the Duelist Cup, and gets players with decks that shouldn't even be decks. The tutorial was harder than the players he fought.
I mean, worst case ... you lose ... Fans of these games are weird
We were just scared that some player net decked early and would otk or even FTK or completely lock him out of playing the game cuz haha Yugioh go brrrrr
@@CrimsoniteSP tbh the lower elo is where people who just started playing and didn't have the necessary knowledge stay so it is to be expected to see various deck there
Raran i cant recall if someone told you that effects in yugioh in a way works like a gun. When the effect of a card is triggered the gun(card) basically fires a bullet(the effect), if you destroy the gun(card) the bullet(effect) is still flying towards your face. Negates stop the bullet and some also destroy the gun afterwards.
That is actually a good analogy.
@@chrisshorten4406 thank you i shameless stole it from elsewhere. Might actually be stevie i heard it from. That or Cimooooo
@@HellsingRuler and then continuos spells/traps and fieldspells effects get stopped if you destroy them before they resolve.

Yeah it’s like switching from python to c++
@@constabrielbell4523 or like playing operation to actually performing a multi-hour long surgical operation
Already channeling his inner Yugioh player by not reading his cards and just activating them when able.
Not a bad start honestly. I don't know anyone that hasn't tried to destroy a spell card to stop it's effect from happening when starting out. For future reference it DOES work to destroy continuous (cards with the ∞ symbol) spells and traps to stop the effects. Field spells as well.
Equips too
"I didn't even read what the card did, I just played it"
Wow, he's learning faster than I thought...
Rarran’s on par with every other MD player when it comes to reading lol
Read? I hardly know her!
Would be a really cool idea for a longer series seeing you learn yugioh and following the progress!:)
He could call it the Progression Series :)
@@federicodc Secrets of Eternity was released in January 2015. This set introduced the Infernoids, a series of monsters that can Special Summon themselves to the field by banishing other Infernoids from either the hand or graveyard. Notable cards in set include Farfa, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss, Qliphort Monolith, Uni-Zombie, Nephe Shaddoll Fusion, and a card that would bolster Satellarknight to combat the Burning Abyss Shaddoll meta, Stellarknight Constellar Diamond. In this series, both Nyhmnim and myself will be opening 24 booster packs or 1 box of a core Yu-Gi-Oh! booster set. We will build a deck and play a best 2 out of 3, and the winner will receive a small prize to upgrade their deck. HOWEVER! Each episode, we will open another box of the next set that was released moving in chronological order, constantly upgrading our decks before dueling each other at the end of each episode. This is the Yu-Gi-Oh! Progression Series.

Also, the best advice is, "please read every card" either in your opponent field, graveyard, or banished. Www
Points to Laundry Dragonmaid and says "whatever this thing is".
Rarran: literally playing Dragonmaid deck himself.
Anyway I love how he says "I summon Exodia" whenever he does some good plays,.
This was a joy to watch. As a longtime Yu-Gi-Oh player I often forget how hilariously overwhelming it can be to start learning this game from scratch.
I'd love to see you give it another whirl later, now with more experience under your belt. I do recommend you finish all the tutorials as they will give you at least a basic grasp on most mechanics (like synchros, links and pendulums).
This went better than expected. btw Rarran it's better to buy 3 copies of a structure decks so you can have more copies of the most important cards
The f??? I didn't even know that's possible!
@@Askld all structure decks can be bought up to 3 times. I would even argue a lot of them are designed to be bought multiple times. It’s a good way to start in the game
@@Soilent1999 you're absolutely right, and the dragonmaid deck in particular is built around having 3, and it has amazing cards too
@@Askld Yeah the Dragonmaid specifically has almost everything you need to get started if you buy it 3 times.
It can be tweaked with some staples and such, but by itself it gets your feet on the ground easily.
@@Soilent1999 Yeah, you literally cannot craft the Utopia cards lol
You're probably never gonna read this but I discovered you thanks to Stevie Blunder's quizz on Yu-Gi-Oh cards and I'm so glad that you took the leap to it! Obviously it's a lot to take in at first but especially at lower ranks, you can have a lot of fun with pretty much whatever archetype catches your fancy (although seeing how late I am, you probably already know that lul). Hope you'll enjoy the game and I'll probably hop by in your Hearthstone or Yugioh chats every once in a while!
And no need to worry, no Yugioh player reads their cards anyway :p
Im so glad to see you play this! I play HS thrn yugioh so its cool seeing u try the same thing. Hope u decide to possibly try more yugioh content as well!
For context, in the last duel the card you negated with the dragon was basically the best card in their deck and they can only play one of that one, so they didn't get to search their monster or activate the effect of a monster they would have sent to the GY if it worked
I would’ve been funny if his first match was a combo deck with 20 special summons of the first turn so we could’ve seen his mind and soul explode even more than we already did lol.
Rarran literally chained dust tornado to spell removal
Mst negates....also applied to dust tornado 😂
I'm 4 minutes in, and can already tell you'll be a great Yu-Gi-Oh player. You haven't even read a single card.
“I didn’t even read what the trap card did, I just played it”
You’re already becoming a pro duelist
Seeing other card game players playing Yu-Gi-Oh! for the first time (especially automated simulator like MD) will always be hilarious to me, I will never know how to play Hearthstone or anything and if i even get into it, but if I did, I hope its like this.
Did you consider maybe getting one of the Yugitubers on board for another episode of this? Some of the bigger ones recently made videos where they had like 30 mins to coach an anime voice actor that never played the game to teach them the basics. Something Like that for you would be pretty neat so you got s guiding hand after testing it out on your own
Can you tell me what youtuber made those kind of videos? (coaching new player)
@@rewrose2838 the original video I mentioned was about 3 weeks ago by dzeef while a couple days ago rhymestyle did a similar one
@@Riwul I see, thanks for the prompt reply lol.
I've not played YGO in 15 years and tried to play Master Duels recently and it just melted my brain
YGO is just so fast paced. I run a deck that slows things down called Eldlich. It’s as close as you get to having a back-and-forth in today’s game.
@@slakinslaver09 No way you're saying eldlich is back and forth unless you aren't running floodgates. It's one of MDs most dominant decks rn and certainly not back and forth at all with all those one sided floodgates
I love how absolutely inept the starter decks Konami gives you in this are. My man literally having a break down because he lost using Normal Monster beat down.
The dragon maid one is really good for beginners.
@@Ragnarok540 Not a starter deck
You made a great choice picking the Dragonmaid structure - that's an AWESOME beginner deck.
Salamangreat is another good one you might wanna look at.
Exodia is to Rarran is the same as Pikachu is to old moms.
Everything is it.
As a YuGiOh player that went into Hearthstone, this is the funniest thing I've ever seen.
Oh yeah, have you considered getting someone to teach you the basics of yugioh besides the master duel tutorial?
Another tip I can give you is probably learn a meta deck that is simple to use, such as eldlich. That way you have a deck you can lean on while learning the more complex combo based decks or ones that are not necessarily combo, but require a bit of thinking to execute.
The deck you picked up, Dragonmaids, like every structure deck, is recommended to buy at 3, so you get 3 copies of each card in the deck. Dragonmaids is also a great deck to start with, they are capable of playing control or a "mid-range" type of playstyle. It can easily bring you up to platinum rank if you play it right. And if you want to make it more meta you can convert it into a rather popular deck type called dragon link, as dragonmaids have several ways of gaining card advantage and swarming the field which is what dragon link wants.
Eldlich? You evil evil man! What are you gonna suggest next?Floo? We don’t need to turn him into a toxic zombie! (Pun intended)
Eh, I'm going to be honest, buying 2 of the Dragonmaid structure deck is probably enough. I'm speaking as someone who _plays_ pure Dragonmaid. There isn't much of a reason to play any of the UR cards (particularly the extra deck ones) in that structure deck at a whole 3 copies, 2 each will get you through most duels just fine.
Though I guess if you're running other decks with dragon monsters some of the generic SRs could be worth playing at 3 copies? I think it's up to personal preference at that point.
The same could probably be said for the other structure decks, especially if you're unsure if you're going to _use_ that deck, but I haven't tested them out much so I don't know.
@@Flygoniaks true, really depends on what your goals are. But, Id say its worth it for 500 more gems.
@@menaatefadly lmao I knew someone was gonna comment something like this :p
Even if you are being serious, you have to admit it is easy to play lol
When I saw the title I was like "you are here for a bad time" Yu-Gi-Oh is definetely not made for new players to come. Just fight a XYZ deck one time and see a first turn last 20min and you understand you got better stuff to do than playing this game.
No I'd have to disagree with that. I've never played Yugioh before and a about a month ago I started with Master duel and I am already climbing the ranks with dragon maid and sky striker. I haven't played in a about a month but they announced a casual mode which means you can start playing some fun decks against randos without having to worry about rank or playing meta decks.
@@zilongma5067 Casual mode is already out by the way
ooh nice! can we expect a full series? I don't play hearthstone but I'm subscribing in hope this becomes a thing.

Something about him trying to drag the smashing ground to the opps monster like it was HS was super cute
7:37 someone probably should have told you attack loss the monster provides is permanent.
Effects are permanent unless specified otherwise.
9:01 you generally do not use the Extra Zone unless you're summoning a link monster or need more space in your main monster zone, so that you have space to play links later if you have them.
honestly it was quite mean from the chat to give him the Link structure deck , yes it is the best and most has usefull cards but he just learned how to tribute summon and activate trapscards , blue cards with red arrows can be overwhelming if you never played yugioh.
He should play the tutorial until Link summon is explained.
Than your timestamp 9:01 will make sense to him
@@levi-222 Definitely agree, that chat should have guided to finish the summoning style tutorials to get a basic groundwork before said deck, at least he’s got a good start. But it would probably be nice to see more wins and losses as he goes through ranked, just to provide more info from anyone.
I didn't watch the stream but from this video alone I think you are already at a good start can't wait to see you continue playing it (hopefully)
Absolutely loved this. Such a great watch, as with mostly everything you put out. Whether i know the game or not, you never fail to keep me watching regardless. You're a pro already. Welcome to YGO. Where no one reads and everyone is miserable lol
It's pretty interesting seeing your gripes with the early Master Duel experience, like a lot of it makes sense too (the game offering wayyyy too many cards at first, the tutorial not properly explaining extra deck monsters, etc)
I never understood why the masterduel tutorial doesnt teach you most of the knowledge for your first duel...... :(
It’s a bad tutorial.
It’s because frontloading everything is usually not recommended, legends of runeterra also has a multi fight tutorial.
There's way too much stuff to learn, it would be overwhelming.
You dont need tutorial to play Yugioh, you need to go to the duel academy and graduate.
13:20 - 13: 40 I cried so much. That face dude 🤣🤣🤣 u
Smart move picking the dragon maid deck. It's strong enough to be competitively viable while being simple enough to pick up due to the deck being more of a one trick pony fusion focus and then a bunch of support to kinda just swarm and break the field

I would have loved to see him look at some Duel Live replays. Really get his brain fried.
This start was definitely better than Lt.Eddy. That man fired up Master Duel, got ftk'd by Gem Knights and quit entirely.
Bruh I also started this game like a week ago too and despite having already known the game pretty well from Duel Links, the link summon mechanic and was tough to understand.
Its like watching kid learning how to walk. Welcome to hell brother, you will love it. One of the better videos about YuGiOh on the internet imo.
I think it would've been funny if he faced a legitimately good deck
When I first played Master Duel (no knowledge of yugioh at the time) I didn't really know what I'm doing like setting Raigeki and expecting it to work like a quick play spell lmao. My first deck for the ranked was a Gem knight OTK deck. Playing solitaire has never been much cooler.
Honestly, you know what'd be really neat to see in my opinion? Talking with players from other card games about cool combos and/or strategies. Weird OTKs, loops, complicated playpatterns, that sorta stuff.
Yes, this is an excuse to get Rarran to look at stuff like Crystron Toolbox decks.
Arouradon Halq heard you talking about them

Rarran I just liked and subcribed and turn on all notifications please do more of this
"REAL GAMES YOU WATCH, DON'T PLAY"
thats so accurate
You should try shadowverse next, it is super fun
Shadowverse is also much closer to hearthstone than Yugioh or Magic is
"is this still a tutorial? what happened to the real game?"
oh, yes. the real game is far from tutorial.
“I didn’t even read what that cars did, I just played it” you’re a natural already
Unironically you need a legal degree to fully understand all of the intereactions and card rulings in ygo
The game lets you draw instead of just adding a card from your deck to hand automatically because there are quick effects you can play (you put toggle on for this in MD) before the standby phase where some effects resolve, a notable one being DPE.
Yup, I understand how you feel. Yu-Gi-Oh now is too overwhelming for a new player. That's why I introduce the game to people through a format known as GOAT format, which is the old school Yami Yugi era of Yu-Gi-Oh format.
When you start playing a true card game 😂😂😂
As a yugioh player I will say this: If you want to play the game, after learning magic, Pokémon, hearthstone, etc., be prepared, yugioh is the place for gluttons of punishment from complex combos, to ftks, to no standardized text, we endure because we love the game for what it is. And those who say the game sucks, you are perfectly entitled to your opinions. Just remember, yugioh represents modern society and how fast and complex it is while the other card games represent a slower, but simpler time in human society. If you have a problem with power creep, don’t play yugioh.
Have you played mtg? Cuz i seen other yu gi oh players tried mtg and there opinion is mtg is more complex
Haven tried yu gi oh. Gotta try it so i can speak for myself but mtg is atleast more complex then heartstone
@@Sn00pzor by complexity, I mean how fast the game is and how far you need to think ahead, yugioh sometimes have turn 1 formats, while the fastest in magic is turn 2 or 3.
@@kailee2166 There are ways to win even turn 0 realistic? no but there are, but lets think about this now if yu gi oh goes to turn 1 and MTG goes to turn 3 isn't going to turn 3, introducing 3 draw steps aka 3 extra cards minimum and and 3 extra combat steps therefore introducing more complexity to the game?
@@Sn00pzor You are misunderstanding me, play a yugioh combo deck, against an experienced player, and you will see what I mean.
Yugioh is pretty tough to pick up, but props for doing as well as you did! It's so much info that it's overwhelming and most peoples brains see that much text on a card and just. Gloss over the text.
The other rough part is like. None of these decks you played in the tutorial are even close to a full power deck :(
Man, having played yugioh since 2006, you kinda lose perspective on how much more complicated this game is compared to other mainstream card games, especially nowadays when card text has gotten out of control lol
"I can't read, gotta go fast" Is the absolute bane of yugioh
Rarran with the classic MST negate, I want to see more of this
May the Maids serve you well. Its the best training deck for starters.
3:50 the classic MST negate trick
It worked when I was in grade school...
Yugioh is certainly not the easiest to get into game, but its lack of a resource system means it lets you go wild from the start like no other game lets you. Its certainly a unique experience, although I can understand its not for everyone.
As the wise man Farfa once said: Pokemon is Checkers, Magic is Chess and Yugioh is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.
When a magic player goes "I tap a land and play a card" Yugioh is like
BLOCK DRAGON, SPECIAL SUMMON, NEEDLEFIBER BRRRRRRRRRRR
Seeing him use twin twisters to destroy an already activated despell gave me flashbacks of when I first played yugioh.
Pokémon is like checkers, Magic is like chess, Yugioh is like CALL OF DUTY MODERN WARFARE 7 WITH NEW FUTURISTIC TECHNOLOGY AND METEORS FALLING FROM THE SKY
ngl for a first time player that's not too bad, welcome to our hell. But really tho there's so much in this game it'll overwhelm newbies, be it sheer amount of cards or summoning mechanics and ruling.
This was so much fun, thank you for playing maids which is my fav deck and the one that introduced me to the modern game.
Imo the main barrier of entry with ygo as a game is that even simple concepts are super difficult to explain(see: battle phase) but if you actually watch games and solitaire for a bit you get the jist of your deck very quickly, also don't be afraid of netdecking and then tweak as needed, the pool is just too big to start from scratch
The first tutorial of yugioh is to actually read the cards 😂
He learnt the true ways of being a good yugioh player.
