Outside of that though while you can't sell new cards in a retro format Konami has actually done reprints where part of why one would buy the set is because it allows access to a card that has limited availability in the retro format.
      Konami doesn't care about the reseller market luckily unlike magic so for example Blackwing - Vayu which was at least $10 for most of last year was reprinted in Battles of Legend Crystal Revenge and is now pennies.

    • @Rynjinivar
      @Rynjinivar Год назад +9

      What Master Duel needs is not necessarily old formats (but people are clamoring for Time Wizard format to be an optional mode, which would be fun) but just other formats in general.
      I had a lot of gripes about Rarran's Master Duel video stemming from shit like him refusing to finish the tutorial and then complaining the tutorial didn't teach him anything, but one thing he hit on without saying in so many words is that Ranked is the ONLY way to play master Duel mostly. Yeah during Events there's a few twists to the rules, and Casual technically exists, but they're redheaded stepchildren.
      Ranked is where you get your dailies done, ranked is where most of the players are, because Yugioh requires resources to play casually, and resources can only be gained in Ranked.
      If there were fun events always ongoing (instead of for around a week every month) and different formats you could actually complete your dailies in, Master Duel would be a lot better. And I say that as someone who got into Yugioh WITH Master Duel and is perfectly fine with just playing Ranked all the time anyway.

    GOAT'd ass video. Im so happy this ended up being such an improvement over the last one!
    By the way, If you ever return to Master Duel (i understand if you dont), i suggest doing it when there is a tryout duel event or normal event. Those events happen for like a week every month and they are temporary low power formats with weaker decks allowed and the game even gives you 3 different Free decks to play on those event formats without a collection. Think Tavern Brawls but they happen only once a month or so.
    You would have a similar experience to this but in the actual official automated client and without alot of the broken cards that plague the game in ranked. I pretty much only play Master Duel when these events are on and the games generally do have alot more back and forth like Edison.

    To note at 10:10, it's very relevant to know what part of an effect is cost and what part is effect. If you negate a card, you are negating the effect. There is no way to stop someone from paying cost unless you prevent them from ever activating it in the first place. In Icarus Attack's example, the opponent will always tribute a Winged Beast and target two cards, regardless of whether or not you negate. If you negate it, all you're stopping is the destruction of the targeted cards, since that's the only effect of Icarus Attack. The only way to prevent them from tributing a Winged Beast and targeting two cards would be to prevent them from activating Icarus Attack, like by putting an effect in play that prevents the activation of Trap Cards. This is relevant because there's a lot of cards in YGO that have beneficial costs attached to them, like Card Trooper that mills 3 cards for cost or Cherubini which sends from Deck to GY for cost - neither of which can be stopped unless you stop those monsters from ever attempting to activate them in the first place.

      I think that's simply what most players are after when they play a card game. They want a deck with a strong theme or mechanic, they want to play multiple turns.
      It's fine if some high level decks have infinite combos or some formats let the game ends in turn 1, but the main playstyle of the game should be fairly familiar and reactive.
      If the main way people play is that they are building crazy combos in solo and games don't last more than a couple of turns, then something needs to change or the game will die. I'm not very hopeful about the future of Yu Gi Oh for that reason.

      Hero beat shines I feel as it's more transferable between the decks of edision in terms of learning. Especially because it uses some of the core systems that didn't really change From pre synchro Yu-Gi-Oh

    This was a fantastic introduction to yugioh in general, I like how you genuinely told him correct plays and whether he was using an effect correctly. I do the same thing with my friend that I'm trying to get into the game. I straight up tell him exactly what I'll do in response to his stuff, tell him how to play around it, and in general, try to help him understand his situation so he doesn't misplay himself into a corner, which sadly he does do
    Funny little story, so he made Purrely in MD at my suggestion, and no matter what deck I used he always found the way to misplay and let me win. One game it was using purrleap when he already had Noir, another he activated the card he targeted off Purrely. No matter how much I tried to help him, the urge to click buttons is the noobs greatest weakness xD

    I literally never knew about that synchro graveyard summoning rule before, I had to look it up to verify

    • @YukiFubuki.
      @YukiFubuki. Год назад +3

      its not just synchro, it applies to all extra deck monster including even rituals too but overall its not soemthing that comes up much in recent years since people dont really use cards like starlight road anymore whose effect isnt considered to be the associated summoning method and summoning negates arent all too common as that would be the primary way to see it in action as a negated summon additionally destroys the monster putting it in the grave and since its summon was negated it is considered to have never actually been summoned
      some examples of cards that induces this rule is in modern times is instant contact and tri-brigade's grave linking since they special summon the fusion/link monster specifically as a special summon and not as a fusion/link summon nor does it have a clause to make the summon be treated as a fusion/link summon

    cool to see new people learning the game. there really is a lot to learn for a new player, especially if they try to play modern. another reason it's good that Konami has started supporting alternate formats. It's a good starting point for new players to learn the game until they're accustomed to the mechanics and card pool, especially for kids and for people who prefer older formats.

    While there are a lot of differences between Yugioh and Hearthstone, don't forget that Yugioh have been out for almost 30 years now while Hearthstone is close to 10 years old. Card games tend to become a lot more fastpased with time. Just think about the difference between classic and current Hearthstone. Just nice to see Rarran get a chance to experience the Yugioh a lot of people loved. Also remember to like and subscribe : )
