Hey Driver. Good to see you were able to stop by to check up this afternoon's upload. Love to hear about your experiences when 'signing' on with a new carrier!
Rest in peace Dave. Thank you for all the knowledge you passed along to the younger generation of truckers. May your memory be honored and cherished for ages to come.
It's really strange watching a new video from a guy that's been gone a month and a half. R.I.P. Dave, and so many thanks for all the great advice and help for truckers everywhere.
This is my 2nd career after a long career in law enforcement. I learned a ton from Dave when I first started out.., blessed are the teachers. Godspeed Dave… catch ya on the back haul, Brother! ❤️
Can’t believe the old man is gone, what a gift he was to our industry. Such a positive impact he had on so many. Peace to his family, I’m sure they are devastated. 🇨🇦🇺🇸❤
RIP Dave....The drivers in my California fleet earn $91,520 for 50 hours a week, and $116,480 for 60 hours a week. That figure of $110k a year is about right.
😥💔RIP Dave!! After 25 years of long haul, and 20 of safety and fleet management, I became a driver trainer. I found your videos very precise, to the point, and informative. I did recommend your site to many "newbies" as an important learning resource. your job here may be over, but your information will live on forever!! Stay safe on heaven's highways!
This man made his mark foreal man, physically he may not be around but his perspective his knowledge and his wisdom will live on forever, 🕊Hammer down Dave🚛
RIP Dave. I'm glad you taught the youngster drivers and refreshing some of the older drivers on knowledge and driving etiquette and about the industry ins and outs.

Words can’t express my sadness of you leaving us. I’m older than you were and you helped me feel like I still was connected to the world I loved. It wasn’t always fun, but we loved it. RIP
My carrier has cut pay 3 times. I’m getting $2.52 a mile after 300 miles. Anything under is a set salary that equates to less money. WAS getting $2.82 after 140 miles. When I started it was 74% of the load. Not anymore 😢
@@sstevocamaro I mean honestly man even on mileage you’re beating the load boards at your absolute lowest rate. As long as they can put at least 2500 on you per week you are in a lot better place than you ever could be at 74%. I’ll never understand giving a carrier a cent more than 15% when all the risk is on me when it comes down to it. But to give ya a good example, according to everyone I talk to that runs spot freight I’m killing it still, if you made 74% of what I make with direct customer freight doing ltl reefer work. You’d be making about $.60cpm less than you’re currently getting per mile.

Right. We start off at my job at $22 an hour at my job no experience to basically watch a machine run all day and do q.c checks. Within 3 years most are making over $25. Hard to believe these days that over $20 an hour is still hard to live on. But here we are.
Getting out of long haul was the best choice i ever made. Started driving local for a construction company, make $33 per hour with overtime after 50 hours. Im making over 100k per year and sleep in my own bed every night.
That's what I want to do after I get my CDL going and with 2 years of experience. I'm looking at deciding to stay local even if it's lower pay than OTR since I want to be with kids daily
Our experience out here don’t amount to F****** S*** anymore . I had to come back out unfortunately . If all goes well in about 6 weeks I’ll officially be able to be done with the road and go back local or do something else paid by the hour and be home every night .
By the hour is the right direction but it is still a undesirable and difficult job . There are some companies in the states that pay hourly with a lot of requirements to get that pay. The micro management can be brutal. Cheers !
Seems like most new drivers can’t do math. All time spent at work should be paid. It doesn’t matter if you’re local or over the road. Anything after 8 hours or 40 weekly, drivers should build in overtime and expect more pay while being away from home. You can make more money as a forklift driver without all the risk and responsibility of driving a semi.
Wow I remember relatives driving in the 80's for 23 cpm. And that rate stayed many places until 2000. Now I'm going into debt at 50 cpm. Back to a gravel truck or low boy for me.
@@treyfeeley2519 Because they don’t care. The more trucks billboarding their name around the better in their eyes. Guys are still quitting their jobs and buying trucks to come out here and running cheap freight because they don’t know any better.
Hey, For the last few years I've been on guaranteed pay, 1500 minimum pay with 150 extra for weekends. Im in a day cab but make the same as regional drivers, doesn't matter if my load is canceled. Sucks that minimum hasnt gone up but i still make more and have more stability than others... maybe time to demand a base pay as long as you aren't turning down loads for drivers
I work locally as a milk hauler in California. If I were to max out my hours (16 hours, we're ag) every day for a year, my salary would be $122,500. Rumor is they're going to bump everyones pay ($27h) I'll believe it when I see it. I work for California Freight, like every company they have their issues. I personally like working for them. I have a dedicated route, that I get done in about 12 hours. And my commute is nothing.
This vid here is why I don't comment much. I run a tanker in the Alberta oilfields. The industry I haul in compared to general freight, whatever that may be, is literally like night and day. This 24 dollars an hour Dave is talking about, I was getting a little more than that in the early 90s. I'm not going to post what I make now, very few on this page would believe me, if any. Even my wait time pay is much more than this 18 dollars an hour to tarp etc. It's just bewildering to me how little you guys get paid, blows my mind. We even have a pension and a health package that costs us nothing and most things are 100percent coverage, the things that aren't 100percent percent covered come in at 80 percent coverage. We also get production bonuses and safety incentive bonuses as well. Like I said , the difference is literally like night and day. I'm rooting for you guys, but I will never understand why anybody would work for what most drivers are being paid, that's also bewildering to me.
It’s all by design. Pay plans have stayed the same or actually been cut across the industry for the last 5 years. They play hocus pocus with the numbers too. Carriers in Canada are the biggest con artists these days. Especially in this Trucker recession. They're even screwing over the Owner Operator. You can't believe any of these companies, and the best thing to do is ALWAYS Read their Google reviews, especially the lowest score ones.
What really annoys me is these companies that pay both hourly and mileage. And they want you to work on the dock when there are no working forklifts and the dock is full already. So if you drive out on a short run 72 cents a mile get there and let's not forget the time you spend inputting on your broken device drop and hooks inspection time etc which is essentially pennies especially when the equipment's broken and it takes you an extra hour to hunt down a working slip seat truck, device, trailer etc. not to mention chaining up going over the mountain on the 80 stopped for 2 hours unpaid only to be told they closed down the highway with no bathroom anywhere in sight in a day cab and to turn around so you have to stay in a hotel with no clothes 😂 after a 14-hour workday!! it's enough to break someone!!
Honestly if u can get on at any Ltl that’s gonna pay better then otr company driver or regional truck load. Old dominions top scale is .82cpm right now and it’s not hard to average 2500 miles a week or more and your home daily at most terminals. And there’s others that pay good like Estes and saia. Even scraping the bottom of the barrel when it comes to pay like Xpo, R and L and central your gonna make 95-100k doing Linehaul easily. If the day comes that I can’t do ltl Linehaul I’m not gonna be using my cdl anymore
Find a place that makes its own products and has a private fleet. I found a good job in the compressed gases industry, but there are others. Stay away from third-party over the road gigs. There's too many small hands in the pie and not enough profit for you.
Thank you, King Roosevelt II! 88 years of truck drivers being exempted from the fair labor standards act of 1938. Exempt from minimum wage and overtime. The problem isn’t the companies, they do what is legal and what works for them. They would be fools to do otherwise. Don’t forget to vote.
Sometimes you have to just call out these scams. The industry is rife with these scam practices. Unfortunately there is quite a bit of unpaid work that is part of the industry that is overlooked. Companies will pay hourly but insist that you be "On Duty" to be billable hours on your time sheet. That 15 minutes used for work could be the difference of you getting back to the terminal, at the end of the day/week.
So in Canada, even though they measure highway distances in kilometers, they pay by the mile? I’m an American driver, and I find this curious. I have driven in Canada before, but only for American carriers paying me by the hour.
The first lie in trucking is a "sign on bonus." You don't get theis so-called sign-on bonus until you ahve been there an number of miles or months or year. That is a 'retention bonus' boys. The first thing = a lie.
Long haul driver's need to make at least $35.00 an hour to make driving a truck worth it. Long hours and low pay doesn't cut it. The industry is nothing more than a sweat shop on wheels
I'm 74 years old. I've been. I drove for for 31 years. I just retired and sold my truck. I hardly made any money. I wonder how other drivers are doing out there
After 20 years in interior Alaska I moved to Idaho. I have learned some hard lessons. Trucking companies here lie, get away with what they can. And the state hates workers. Get your wage right before you hit the seat, if raises come at all it will be a penny. If they rip you off the state will do nothing. Work in a pro union state or not at all.
Hey quick question for bulk haulers I was offered a company position for this season and said they pay 25% of the load. I heard a owner-op say he makes 75% of the linehaul (has his own truck). What's the average % pay for a company bulk hauler?
Yes, $21 bare minimum. Do you realize how many drivers are making LESS than $21/hr???? Many make $16-$18/hr and that's in Canada!!! That is subsistence living!!!!
65 cents per mile at 2,500 to 3,000 miles per week is way more than $21 per hour. The hourly pay only benefits you if after 8 hours they're going to pay time and a half and you're getting 10 to 12 hours per shift. What we need is a guaranteed pay for every person that works that allows them to afford housing food travel and their spouse to say home with the kids if needed etc. Right now only 1% of the population is farming in US they really need a basic living wage
