  • In this fifth and final lesson in the NX Realize Shape course, we'll look at how we can import and manipulate geometry from the OBJ Wavefront format. We'll have a look at the following:
    00:15 - Introduction
    01:15 - Importing a coarse mesh (head)
01:55 - Transform filtering tips (falloff object)
03:15 - Importing a multibody subdivision model (chair)
03:40 - Making an assembly of the subdivision models
    ---
The models used in this tutorial can be downloaded at www.turbosquid.com

Does anyone know how to edit an existing .stl file with NX realize shape?

You cannot directly, unfortunately. You can get around it by importing/exporting using tools such as Blender (free), but STL's are usually not very clean in terms of polygon distribution, so I doubt it would help you very much. If you're looking to edit .STL i would look to the polygon modeling toolset in NX12 and newer, as the convergent technology has made that possible.

Hi, I am really interested in modeling of the shape but in a data way (for example using excel files). Does somebody know if there is a way of using the realize shape but in a parametric way? Like getting the points in format X, Y Z.
    Thanks for your attention.

+Artur Julia Hi. Yes, there is a way of using it parametrically. You could construct datum points / curves or other geometry outside the context of NX Realize Shape, and attach the vertices to whatever reference geometry you need. This reference geometry could be controlled parametrically, which in turn will decide the position of the cage vertices.
Furthermore: By utilizing tools such as geometry optimization with associative measurement tools, you can tweak the geometry itself to have extreme values within a feasible level of accuracy.

The picture in the intro is a render of a modeled face, if that is what you are asking.
