  • NX Realize Shape was introduced with NX9. This is an intuitive and robust freeform modeling toolset which provides any user with minimum knowledge the ability to generate high quality advanced shapes using NX.
    At NX-Portalen, we want to provide you with some tutorials to get you kicked off in the correct direction in the use of Realize Shape. Even though it provides you with a very intuitive toolset, there is some "do's" and "don'ts" which we want to present.
    Have a look at www.nxportalen.com for more tutorials in Realize Shape and in NX.

    Hello! Thank you for this video lesson. Could you explain me one thing. When you use Transform Cage option you have aditional check box "deselect automatically". In my case I have none, so I have to deselect my picked points, edges etc manualy. Where can I find this option in NX 11?

    • @Miror
      @Miror  5 лет назад +1

      Hey! Yes I've noticed that myself. I'm on NX12 at the moment, and that option has been gone for a couple of versions. I'm not sure why they decided to remove that, as I do miss the ability to have automatic deselection when doing quick shaping. I don't have any answers at the moment on this, but I'll shoot some questions to someone who might have it.

    Can you explain to me, how to edit translucensy of the cage face in NX, I can't see through cage face to see body.
    Thank u so much.

    • @Miror
      @Miror  5 лет назад

      Thank you! I haven't heard about cage faces being non-translucent, so I'm not sure I can be of immediate assistance there. Are you sure you haven't got all the cage lines and vertices set to "sharp edges"?

    How can I have projection view toolbar? I followed what you did but mine has only one icon for some reason. I'm new to NX. Thank you!!

    • @Miror
      @Miror  5 лет назад +1

      Yeah that's a thing that was implemented with NX12 I think. I think there's a quicker way than what I'm about to propose, but for now you have to go into the projection view dropdown and copy out every single icon to recreate them all. It's a bit tedious but worth it :)

    I'm new to nx and i cant seem to find the option of realize shape on the surface ribbon. it starts with shape studio. is there something i need to re install or do i need to check it from some hidden option.
    The same is happening with synchronous modelling. i cant seem to find the toolbar for it.
    it would be very helpful if you could spare some time and guide me out of my problems.

    • @Miror
      @Miror  7 лет назад

      Hm.. It may be a case of incomplete installation. Which version do you have? If memory serves me right, NX Realize Shape wasn't included until one of the update patches for NX9.

      Right click the toolbar and check surfaces.

    Hi, I am not a designer, please can you tell me if NX realize shape can start from an existing model (solid or surface)?

    • @Miror
      @Miror  7 лет назад

      Hello!
      Not directly, no. However, I've successfully used tools such as "Extract Cage Polyline" and "Loft Cage" / "Sweep Cage" to extract subdivision geometry (Realize Shape) from parametric and/or dumb geometry.

    • @ettrike

    How did you get rid of the surface at 8:06?

    • @Miror
      @Miror  6 лет назад

      Hi, the surface I think you are talking about is simply hidden. If you hover over an item(solid/surface/curve/etc) and hold down the right mousebutton, a shortcut menu (radial menu) will appear. Then you keep holding the right mousebutton and drag your pointer to the button in the lower middle part in this menu. It doesn't remove anything, but simply hides it.

    • @jameshamilton8594

      When I hide that extrude(5) the fill surface also gets hidden but in your video it doesn't? Any advice?

    Hi Magnus, I would really love to ask you a few question regarding realize shape.
    Most importantly...
    I can get a good initial basic shape. The I can go and colour and add materials to it.... BUUUUT When I try and go back to my shape to edit further - with the TRANSFORM CAGE or SPLIT FACE etc.
    I cannot get the shape to show me the cage with nodes - no matter what I have tried, I can't seem to get it to a point where I can edit/manipulate the shape further.
    I hope I have been clear. I am going mad with frustration - Please help.

    • @Miror
      @Miror  9 лет назад

      Hi Bravo Zulu. It sounds to me that you are trying to add a new realize shape feature to your history tree and use this to manipulate the old shape. Could this be correct?
      Think of the realize shape toolbox in the same way you're using sketch. You cannot edit an old sketch simply by entering sketch mode, you have to find the relevant sketch in the history tree and edit it from there.

    • @bravozulu428
      @bravozulu428 9 лет назад

      aaah... Ok, I'll try to see if I can get to that.
      Magnus, I am completely green... Been messing about with NX10 for a few days and your tuts are simply a god send... Without them I'd not have gotten anywhere.
      I'll try and find this history tree and see if I can muddle my way through.
      Can I ask you a fwer more questions as they come up>??

      Bravo Zulu Great! Glad that worked out for you. If you have questions outside the topics presented, please visit the forum section at www.nxportalen.com.
      Thanks for your feedback!

    • @bravozulu428

      Thanks for your help. Keep those tuts coming they are very good.
      Although, if I may ask, going forward can you be a little more detailed in the descriptions of the operations you are doing.
      For instance when you finished with adding materials to your model in tut 1 you said we can go back and edit the object but didn't describe what you just told me... I was baffled.
      So if you can describe some of the broader concepts NX employs like the history menu and why it does it that way, and how all the modules interrelate to one another that would make your Tuts unmatchable.
      For instance, I was completely confused when all the toolbars disappeared from the right hand border... Till I figured out they are different for each module etc etc.
      Your work is brilliant and thanks again for your effort

    When I go to drag one of the faces, it doesn't allow me to move the entire face; it drags everything but the top surface edge and separates the piece. How do you stop it from doing this?

    • @Miror
      @Miror  8 лет назад

      +Jon Thomas Would it be possible to show me a picture that describes how it looks like when this happens? Do you have the transform tool active when you try to move the face? Or: Have you looked to your selection filtering to make sure that you are able to select the cage face?

      +NX - Portalen Please see www.dropbox.com/s/g7ptmpa2u3wdn6f/Screenshot%202016-01-06%2005.20.32.png?dl=0

      +Jon Thomas Although I am not sure about it, it seems like you have added two primitives to your work environment. Maybe you have clicked both apply and OK when adding the cylinder. Could my assumption be correct?

    • @jonthomasinfo
      @jonthomasinfo 8 лет назад

      +NX - Portalen I think you're correct. I went back and tried it by just clicking apply, and then ok, and then both and it does indeed impose to primitives on each other. That is very strange. It seems intuitive to click apply then ok, however note to self to just click one or the other.
      Thanks for the solution.

    • @Miror
      @Miror  8 лет назад

      +Jon Thomas Yes, I agree that it might seem counterintuitive at first. But if you are in a situation where you need to add multiple primitives, the apply button is quite handy :) So the "OK"-button is sort of a combination between "apply"+"cancel". This is a standard layout for the majority of dialogue boxes in NX.
      Glad it worked out!

    This tutorial is very beneficial for me and thank you so much. My question to you is that, How you have applied texture on that model? shown in the beginning of the model. Please help me for that. It will be beneficial.

    • @Miror
      @Miror  7 лет назад +1

      Hi Prasad. Thank you for your kind words. It's appreciated.
      Regarding texturing, this is done using KeyShot, which is a 3rd party software for rendering. I prefer using this for final visualizations. Let me know if you have specific questions about that.

    how to apply shell on this model?

    • @magnusskogsfjord7631
      @magnusskogsfjord7631 6 лет назад

      Anuj Jain Probably need to do it manually due to tight geometry. Alternately you could use delete face (heal checked off) and use thickening on the surfaces
