Avalanche - Nick Cave - Lyrics

- As a fan of both Nick Cave and Black Sails, I can't listen to this song without being reminded of Captain James Flint, the tormented protagonist of Black Sails. Any other pirates here who agree with me?
A song originally by Leonard Cohen, covered by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds in their 1984 album "From Her To Eternity" and then re-recorded for the Starz series "Black Sails", where it could be heard at the end of the ninth episode of the second season.

I could drift through the vastness of space broken hearted and depressed listening to this
And beautifully get absorbed by a black hole.

Leonard cohen and nick cave are both amazing songwriters
“You hit my side by accident as you go down for your gold”
Every line is a Gem
Just heard this on Invincible, the way it fits Nolan is tragic.
Nolan brought that tragedy onto himslw
Leonard Cohen was an amazing poet. Wonderful tribute to him by Nick Cave
Actually, Nick Cave covered this in 1984 (it has since been remastered) while Leonard Cohen was very much alive. Still a wonderful tribute though…
Obviously this is a newer version than the more dramatic cover of the song that was recorded for “From Her to Eternity”, which is equally epic! Was it re-recorded as a tribute to Leonard Cohen after he died? Or co-incidental timing?
Well, he was already performing this version / arrangement live a full year before Leonard Cohen died: ruclips.net/video/w5AjWTOTMg0/видео.html
@@meng-mengluv-luv1267 he also covered tower of song on I'm your fan. That was the first time I heard Nick Cave
"You who wish to conquer pain,
you must learn what makes me kind.
The crumbs of love that you offer me,
they're the crumbs I've left behind."
Among the most *RAW* lines I've ever heard
The whole damn thing is raw... "I myself am the pedestal for the ugly hump at which you stare"..... And the final line, so abrupt...no further words necessary.
I think this song is about a few things, but for me right now.... The idea that he's putting his own ugliness and flaws on display for her, the pain of it, but the ironic necessity of this being the only way to uncover beauty. And then at the end revealing to her that this act of self-exposure actually includes her too (wearing her flesh)... That it includes all of us, as fellow flawed humans.
This kinda shit is why we have the phrase "tour de force". Raw as an open nerve.
"I myself am the pedestal for this ugly hump at which you stare"...... I've listened to the Cohen version for about 30 years but, that lyric just now hit me.
Think, Mark.... Think. 👉😠👈
IMO One of Mr. Cohen's best poems!!!!
Here because of Invincible.
Glad I discovered this.
I know everyone is here for Omni Man but let’s please not let Black Sails go unappreciated. It’s such a great show
Know that your comment has not gone unnoticed, I've never heard of Black Sails before searching for this song and I've seen lots of praise from people, I might actually give it a shot !
@@calixtatepes8246 You’ll love it!
Your profile image is scary.
I need to see it. Love pirates 😻
Absolutely haunting.
That moment in Invincible brought me here in a similar way I hadn't experienced since hearing Kaleida's Think in John Wick. It was another one of those moments where a song just CLICKS with me. Everything clicks together in the right places. Beautiful. Wish I found it sooner.
Think mark
Opening scene of episode 4 of invincible definitely reminds me of the governor stand-alone episode in the walking dead season 4
Is it played there as well?
Omni man really made us feel something in our heart 💓
Great song. Touches something deep inside. I used to find it haunting. Now I feel it is the immortal voice from within, trying to help the human seeker. He is full of misconceptions, she is waiting for him to give her room in his life ...
And what about "Her"? A rich person in his life
Might just fall into a black hole listening to this.
I understand you omni man. Sometimes all we need it's a black hole
I feel a great sentiment towards this song, it's lyrics relate greatly to my past.
How do you conquer pain? By saying: Your laws do not compel me! That’s in this song for me. A former Dutchman.
A song sang by a pirate towards the civilization
And a song that symbolizes Omni Man's identity crisis
Definitely,,great show,,great music 😊
great Nick Cave plus Great Leonard Cohen
It's a perfect mix of both Flint and Silver for those who have watched Black Sails. There's lines that fit both of them. The dislikes must be for those who prefer the original but I think they're both great. Bear McCreary has a way of making the music sound both ancient and modern and he'll have had a hand in this arrangement.
This is classic Nick Cave and Warren Ellis. Check out the film score they composed for "The Assassination of Jesse James" it's phenomenal, "Song for Bob" gets me every time.
The cripple here that you clothe and feed is neither starved nor cold, he does not ask for you company, not at the center, the center of the world...
this music is haunting
Epic on invincible last night
10 people did not learn to serve him well.
Omni man brought me here
Is pure poëtry.
Thanks for sharing
You're welcome!
I heard this on invincible and immediately was like this has to be a cover of a Leonard cohen song that I don’t know. Crazy
Thanks to Omni man I now know who Nick Cave is and am not turning back, such beautiful music ❤
Check out Leonard cohen. He wrote. Has a much deeper voice. He was one of the best poets
Me after my thousands of years worth of merciless and barbaric manners gets overthrown by 20 years of love and care from the human soul:
A story worthy of a saiyan prince, or a merciless viltrumite...

I can stare at my pain listening to this song. I am king Leonidas standing at the Thermopylae Pass ready to battle until my last breath, knowing that victory doesn’t belong to me but I will go down with a smile since my faith is unwavering. Amat victoria curam.
Only for omniman
come on Nick, put the light and word on it and it will vanish
When you are a Viltrumite with depression and existential problems wandering in space.

Omniman me trajo aqui, música God
I was in 8 relationships. 6 of i was cheated on.
I watched 5 of my best friends in life kill themselves either through outright suicide or drugs. A lot of other friends died or left me.
My father died half a year ago out of nowhere. My mother is about to pass away too if she continues on the way she does now. I am 33.
People start to avoid me or ditch me. Rejected from those i wanted to be with. I only have one best friend left now who barely got time sadly. My 3 sisters barely understand how my head works. They just expect things from me to just work like a machine, even though i have been diagnosed with MS and i am in a shit load of pain each day.
I endured a lot. Not as much as others but a lot. And as strong as i always thought i was. I start to feel my armor breaking apart by now if this continues.
Stay strong brother. I can't help you, but I'm here to talk.
This song is about death, for anyone wondering.
It's about God. The One Creator, who is all things and is in love with creation and the world of form.

>Listen to a song with multiple nuances and interpretations.
>Petulantly state it's about death, in case the "lesser minds" missed a message that was most likely not there.
>Someone with actual knowledge of Cohen's themes comes along with a less far-fetched claim.

Way to go fam. This comment section was full of gentlemen. Y u had to ruin it?
no it is not about death. It is about me and my wife. Wait a min, it is the same thing.
I wish my death looks like this song
Wait I don’t know who you are but we owe you our lives will you stay tell us your name or where you come from?😊
Can I use this song for my school audition?
This dude isn't the creator of the song so really no point in asking that here. But I doubt you need permission for something like that.

Lavina
Hát, beleléptem egy lavinába
mi befedte a a lelkemet.
ezért a csúnya púpért, amit nézel.
Te, aki le akarod győzni a fájdalmat,
Tanuld meg, mi tesz engem kedvessé.
A szerelem morzsái, amit ajánlasz,
azok a morzsák, amiket magam mögött hagyok.
A fájdalmad itt nem hiteles,
ez csak árnyék, árnyéka sebemnek.
Elkezdtem vágyni utánad,
Én akinek nincs rá szüksége.
Azt mondod, elmentél tőlem,
De érzem, amikor lélegzel.
Ne öltözz nekem ezekbe a rongyokba,
Tudom, nem vagy szegény.
És most ne szeress olyan hevesen,
Amikor tudod, hogy nem vagy biztos benne.
Rajtad a sor, szerelmem,
Ez a te tested, amit viselek.
This song doesnt it…it haunts
ASMR
I thought Cohen was singing, my mistake.
I came there because of Edward
A música do Capitão Flint
.........
Leonard Cohen intentionally writes the lyrics to be ambiguous.
Is it a man talking to himself or to his God?
