I personally think Freeman is the reason this team went on the tear they went on near the end of the season. I believe the players had enough of Kelly.
Hey guys - been following your show for a long time and love it and watch it regularly!! This was definitely a Vince classic where he didn’t hold back anything and I loved it!!!
As a LSU fan, I really am not crazy about this hire. Dude is 3-9 vs top 10 opponents and that was against much easier competition than he'll face at LSU. That won't fly at LSU. Hoping for the best, but not thrilled.
You shouldn’t be that happy. Most ND fans know that BK is a competent coach but far from elite. He’ll be middle of the pack in the SEC and then retire in 3-5 with $25 mil more in the bank.
Dang, it only took Brian Kelly one year to lower the standard at LSU that much? 4 losses, a butt whipping by Georgia, a loss to 5-7 Texas A&M, a loss to Florida State, a 40-13 loss to Tennessee and you wanna talk noise? You're right, he did that even faster than I thought! Props to Kelly for that!
Didn't Brian say he wouldn't beat Bama? He won the SEC West. We are used to better, but this energy was wrong. Didn't y'all win 9 games? Who was better?
@@nehemiahbell81 I didn't realize Bama would be as down as they were, but great, he beat Alabama, but also got destroyed by Tennessee and lost to a garbage Texas A&M team. @@etiennescarbinski7890 he ran towards the money. Let's get real here for a moment. It’s best thing for ND in the interim and if he’s who everybody (including Brian Kelly) says he is, he will succeed in to the future. First things first, our ‘22 and ‘23 classes are top 10 and very well might both be too 5 classes. The ‘23 class already has 4 top 100 defensive players. Defensive players who want to learn under Marcus Freeman.
Kelly has railed against the transfer portal -- for players, not head coaches. Assistant coaches on recruiting home visits reportedly found out about their boss bolting to LSU.......from family members of the recruit. It is in the ballpark of Tommy Tuberville leaving a dinner with Texas Tech recruits (and never returning) to sign a deal with Cincinnati.
We’ll keep this warm… Kelly is surging with recruiting the right players (Louisiana heavy) and assistant coaching (elite). He’ll need all of it because the competition he faces is brutal.
I respect what y’all do but y’all sound like y’all are hating. When was the last time ND won it all.LSU has 2 more then we have the last 25 years.Stop acting like LSU is Minnesota
“LSU was a Dumpster fire before 2019.” Laughs in 3rd most winningest program since 2000. 😎 Laughs in not having a losing season in 22 years. Yea, I’m sorry but that’s just not true. Maybe if we were A&M, Florida, or Auburn. But, other than that incorrect information. I enjoyed ur perspective on Kelly. He sounds exactly like Saban did in his early career with LSU. Not saying he’s Saban. But, just saying what ur saying sounds awfully familiar. After Orgeron LSU needs a iron fisted coach. The culture as LSU needs to be reset. Orgeron really let things fall after 2019.
With an investigation and EO getting canned mid season after a couple years ago winning a championship, yeah compared to most other programs LSU is a dumpster fire. Keep holdin on to that record from 2000 though.
While I wish you luck in turning around the culture at LSU, I think you'll see 50/50 results in that from Brian Kelly. Here are the facts of his career + ND 12 years: - made ND relevant again with more discipline/development at some key positions, stadium changes, recruiting, facilities(much you already have), and evaluating/developing some talent(taking 3stars to 4-5 star draft picks). - hires some excellent asst coaches, and some absolute garbage coaches - is a control freak; both a positive and a negative. This turned ND into a 10+win season team consistently, but it took 5+ years to do that (and almost fired because of not changing some coaches that are buddies/doesn't want to be wrong). This control freakism has also kept him from winning a title; can't let go of offense, needs to have heavy input on personnel (and will always play a senior over a talented fr/so regardless of ability...which is ludicrous given today's colleges football). - control freak with media: luckily in south bend, he could control the media who he got to stop asking critical questions. I doubt that will work in Baton Rouge...and I expect multiple media outbursts annually...heads up; he likes to throw players under the bus publicly when he's really mad instead of taking responsibility. -QB development is a huge issue; no QB at ND progressed year over year. Every single one had their best season when Kelly did not put pressure on them(ie ran the ball, controlled clock)...he mentally ruined multiple talented QBs. So...you have to win the first year of a QB. -motovating; he's shown he can get them up for occasional bug games...but also come out super flat in many big games. He's not a good energy guy...must have others around that do that really well. - awful game coach....this goes back to the micromanaging/control. It's a plus sometimes...but early on his awful game coaching cost ND in lots of losses(bad decisions, poor mgt, poor personnel, and poor prep for opponents...losses to Tulsa, Northwestern, Syracuse, USF, etc). This only got rectified through now having better talent that overcame bad game mgt. -no killer instinct. Kelly has shown, especially against decent to good teams he refuses to out opponents away. He thinks that 10-17 point leads in the second half is enough to take the foot off the gas. This has been a 12 year consistency...and I guarantee gets exposed in the SEC.
@Jordan Love huh? You obviously don't know much about LSU football if you did you would know that the 2000 team is totally irrelevant lol LSU Tigers 2004: National Championship 2007: National Championship 2011: Lost National Championship to an Alabama team they beat earlier that same season (who beats Alabama twice in one year) 2019: National Championship
Totally disagree about he took ND as far as they can go...his game planning for the not 1, not 2 and not 3 chances to win a title his teams got blown out. He had the talent but never had his teams ready for the big games. #hiremarcusfreeman #screwbriankelly
LSU talent is better. No disrespect to Notre Dame They are good. Academic limits the talent pool for Notre Dame. Brian Kelly did well with what he had to worked with. LSU will have the talent to match Clemson and Alabama and Georgia. LSU has the facilities too. I love Notre Dame. So stop that he can't beat Bama or Clemson with LSU. LSU opens the door for him to recruit talents without limits of academic admission at LSU. LSU isn't paying 14 mill for sure.
I get what you're saying but I'm still surprised by this move. He's had 5 straight 10 win seasons, plus has a top 5 2023-25 recruiting class. On the cusp of a natty title and he just leaves 🤔
More talent usually(ND actually outrecruited LSU 3 of last 6 cycles). The big challenge will be LSU is much less disciplined)hence losing 2-4 games a year with all that talent. That, to me, will be Kelly's Achilles heel at LSU. He loves guys that say the right things, are never late to practices, and are playbook smart vs able to make big/athletic plays consistently...and will usually play hard workers/seniority over talent. The guy who thinks he's always the smartest guy in the room and never had to learn, is inevitably doomed.
For starters, BK doesn't like recruiting in fact so much so that there were reports that a current commit never heard from Brian Kelly. Secondly, BK is known to make bad hires and will avoid trying to change them unless pressured to do otherwise. I think of Brian Van Gorder who was only removed after Jack Swarbrick gave him no other option. Next, when you realize this you can easily negative recruit LSU to the point of no fighting back. Finally, He is not good at getting people motivated cause he is really awkward in those moments and He doesn't like to put too much points on the board so much so when he feels he has a lead he will feel it's necessary to run inside zone or a draw play.
Look what Kelly has done for ND guys. Don't be disrespectful toward him. Be happy that he has brought us back. May not win the huge game but at least we have been there competing. Don't be trash
Against who? a 4-7 USC, against some mediocre ACC competition. He's a stubborn coach who will not try to change unless there is no other option. If it gets to that point He's done at LSU.
