    Big part of Aoki's look away is a set up. Pointing and saying "Hey what's that" is a more deliberate and obvious trick, without any prior set up. In Aoki's case he took several rounds to get into opponent's head and in a crucial moment, right after parrying a left jab, when he was about to land a serious hit, he stops. And whatever was happening out there was clearly more important than this opportune moment, a match, or perhaps championship entierly. It wasn't really a choice to look. He had to see what was going on.

    You wouldn't believe the number of times I got away with stopping, pointing to the corner of the room, and landing a 3 piece combo on my partner in the middle of a sparring match. The old, "Look, a distraction!" strategy works. Lol

      It's also the timing. In the fight Aoki comes in to brawl after his opponent is tired and even scared/put off balance. I think the main reason Aoki can pull it off is the sheer "Why did he stop? Why is he looking away?!" curiosity that a tired and frazzled opponent might fall for.

    What aoki did was the result of multiple blows to his opponent's psyche, by "playing dead" (looking like he was close to a ko when he was completely fine) throughout multiple rounds, making the opponent, who was already tired, break his own rhythm, it's all about conditioning

    It's a move that's quite effective even in sports outside of boxing. I've used it to great success in fencing, after I either get aggressive or get the upper hand, I slowly turn my head to my right, and as they follow suit, I lunge straight into their torso. Extremely risky, but greatly rewarding when done perfectly.

    i think aoki can use it because he during the whole battle, do a lot of things to make that happend, first he used a lot of dirty tricks to break oponent focus and works with his mind, also it uses that in the best possible moment. But tbh that technique is just a joke

    Sometimes, the only thing that makes sense.. just doesn't seem to make any sense. I've been practicing martial arts of all kinds since I was 6 years old, and I still am quicker and more accurate when caught by total surprise. Of course a no look punch could theoretically work

    • @Wendeta-hq2cp
      @Wendeta-hq2cp 2 месяца назад +1

      That's why I think Aoki pairs it with the Frog Punch. Coming in from below creates a situation where you (or anybody) is not really able to properly brace. Best shot is to throw yourself away from the punch and then come back in for a counter.

  • @nappyheaded
    @nappyheaded 2 месяца назад +1

    I can actually see this working in sparring, randori or whatever your martial art calls it. In sparring things are more relaxed than an actual fight or match so people will fall for it. If you remember in Takamura's match he tried Aoki's look away technique and it didn't work.
