I had a family of mourning doves nest in a small evergreen tree next to the front door this past summer, it was cute watching them grow up 💖🕊🕊 I miss them, but I hope the nest gets reused again next year! I still get plenty of doves in my backyard as I have a feeder, and I'm pretty sure one of the juveniles that came from the nest still visits frequently 😊
I just had a family of Doves in a nest outside of our window. I just loved watching their moves and growth each day. I hope they come back for a 3rd or more brood to watch! Thank you for this video!
Hi Gary. Thank you so much for this informative video. I am helping to rehabilitate a lost dove and this content helped me assess the stages of his/her development. You have lifelong fan in me.😊
I love this video. The 2nd next my pair had had one baby that didn’t seem ready to go. I watched as the two would hop out of the nest, then fly a short distance, but quickly came back. The next day only one was left. I tried talking to the lone baby and said I know you can do it. I was worried maybe he couldn’t but I knew he had flown before. Apparently I scared him a bit and he took off to a nearby trailer, then to the roof, and now who knows…I’m sure he's one of the 30 that come for morning feedings I provide.
@@jeffrey4505 There’s a stucco wall between my property and the next. It has 20” squares every 10”. I go out and pour some food on about 5 of them. They flit around until they’ve scarred it all down. It’s amazing how fast they are. I’m going to try putting water out in a shallow Tupperware dish at the same time. There’s no water around unless they fly to the lake. That’s a 15-20 minute car drive.
@@jeffrey4505 Yesterday I saw a 20lb bag of wild birdseed at Ace Hardware for $10. It’s a special deal because when I went it was $15. Mosquitoes are awful. We don’t have any that I notice unless we go down by the lake in the evening. I’m in Arizona.
I have over 30 that visit me in the morning after I put out food. I swear if I had feeders, it would all be gone in a day. It’s so hot here, I’m sire it’s hard for them to find any. Especially water. I’m trying to figure out how to get a little water for them but it’s over 115 here for the summer. I could keep putting ice cubes in it
Thanks for this video! I was riveted the entire time. For the past couple of months I've been feeding doves that come to my window sill and it's fascinating to watch them. I have a question that I'm hoping you could answer -- I've seen some young doves feeding, and whenever there's an older adult around, the young ones make peeping sounds and flutter their wings. Does this mean something? And sometimes the older adults try to chase them away from the food, but that could just be territorial behavior, I don't know if they're related.
This is so cute! I have a couple with their babies outside my window on the fire escape.. I couldnt help it and had to touch them when they were alone🥹 Theyre about 9-10 days but Idk how theyll learn to fly here theres no trees or bushes just fire escapes and the garage😕
@@garysbackyard2517 Sorry I just saw your comment and YES! The mom and dad taught them how to fly from fire stairs to fire stairs until they flew away🥰
@@deadengine Yea they did! Theyre very dedicated and start to leave their babies alone little by little so they can start getting used to be by themselves I think.
I love this video. I rarely get to see the chicks that have been in 3 nestlings now. I’d love to set up a camera but it’s so hot here, not sure it would well or I could find a way to attach it while they are gone. What camera do you use? Thank you very much.
2 days ago, there was a mourning dove in my garage (Day 13 size). It was flying all around the garage, but not getting out. Initially, I thought it was a big bird and let her out. But she had a small flight and sitting in my front yard, couldn't fly higher. Then googled and found it is baby and immediately went and took her back inside. Baby is not eating by herself, so I need to boil grains and grind them and fed her. Not sure what to do now. To leave her outback or to grow her until she is big and change it to an adult color.
I have to fledglings already they almost 1 month old i cannot believe they are flying already and already on solid foods mostly berries and fruits for now hard or soft. Their mom and dad lay another egg and kick them out the nest I sometimes see them still feeding them which is cute based off how big they are.
I have a nest in the top corner of my porch. Today, I noticed that a baby (not sure how old but def stretching wings but not yet able to fly), and I'm not sure if it fell out of the nest or what to do. There is one in the nest that seems to be a bit bigger than the one on the porch. There has been a parent every day in the nest except today but have been close. Do I leave the baby on the porch (it found a safe spot under a table on my porch) and has been cuddled up there since I noticed it out of the nest. Do I leave it or put it back in the nest?
Sorry I haven't responded earlier but hopefully the little one recovered and was able to fly away. I know that first outing can be precarious until they can fly confidently.
@@melaniephillips8556 I’ve been told by rehabbers to wear gloves if I need to put a baby back in the nest. They also say the parents will make sure they are fed, it’s just a matter of being safe on the ground. I love my nesters!
what camera or equipment did you use to capture this? I have a nest and its too late to add a camera but I use a tripod and shoot as close as I can and have gotten some good images- would love to have a running video of this all transpiring...

I bet they do; there was a mourning dove hanging around the old nest recently!
