- Walt Disney created the great, popular mikey mouse, with it´s very great history. Bet´cha you´ve wondered "how did Mikey Mouse started?" and here´s the awnser:

Well not really, when you hear ‘Walt Disney.’ He is referring to how he started his own animation company, Oswald wasn’t made by Walt alone, Walt considers Mickey his first OWN creation.

I remember this intro being in every one of my Disney VHS movies growing up. It's probably been about 30 years since I've seen this and I was so emotional by the end, both because of the innocent, uncomplicated period of my life it represented, and just how much Disney really was a part of everyone's childhood.

For most people, Steamboat Willie was the first disney cartoon that used sound. The thing I love about this is seeing my favorite disney characters Mickey, Minnie and Donald. The first finale is from Cinderella. But when the characters come, the finale is from Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs.

Disney really didn't get Oswald to "come back home" until 2006. However he may have been owned by Universal at the time (at least until he got the treatment he truly deserved), he could've at least deserved maybe one or two mentions, possibly saying how he was a predecessor to Mickey.
It's because as Andrew said, Walt never really got the rights back to him until after his death. Walt had to give up on Oswald entirely because he didn't want to let the past haunt him and instead ventured into new ideas and dreams that we can see happened, aka the creation of Mickey and his first full length movie. I'm sure if he was still alive, he would be happy to see his creation back in his rights. However, at the time there much history to Oswald within the Disney Company other then "Walt created, Walt Lost, Walt Suffered, Walt Move On"

If Walt didn't abandon Oswald like he did, chances are that Disney wouldn't have been what it is today. He would probably have produced Oswald cartoons for a few years and then retire the character before trying something else. Oswald would've gotten Walt as far as the Alice Comedies got him. The reason Mickey was so successful is that his public debut was the first ever talking cartoon, and sound film was just kicking off at the time. The name "Mickey Mouse" is much easier to say and remember than "Oswald the Lucky Rabbit", and the outline of Mickey's head became an internationally recognizable symbol for Disney. Disney wouldn't've been able to do that with Oswald.

It wasn't a movie per se, it was a clip from a bunch of VHS releases called Walt Disney Cartoon Classics Limited Gold Edition, there were two sets of VHS tapes, this clip came from the first volumes

So, this is the history of the early Disney mascots, up til we got to Mickey's debut
1922: Julius the Cat debuts in Alice Cartoons and Laugh-O-Gram Cartoons. Was short lived, due to being critically panned for being a blatant ripoff of Felix the Cat.
1925: Pete makes his debut in a later Alice cartoon, and while not that successful, goes on to be one of the main characters in Steamboat Willie and then a Disney mainstay
1927: Oswald, his wife Ortensia, and their many children debut, and manage to last a decade before Universal took away Walt's right to them. They would all be given back more than half a century later, and would eventually make a proper return in the Epic Mickey trilogy.
1928: Mickey Mouse is established with his three earliest shorts. Steamboat Willie is released first as the first full on sound cartoon ever released. However, it was not the first Mickey short ever. Those would be the test screenings from a few months prior that same year, the two shorts that starred the First, Original Mickey Mouse: Plane Crazy and The Gallopin' Gaucho

oswald didn't belong to the disney company officially until 2005 when they were finally able to buy him off of universal -- mickey was the character that made the disney company what it is today
