I've been trying to brute force learning scratching, and just stumbled across this about a few months in my journey. This series will be immensely helpful! Hoping to keep the craft alive. Thank you Angelo!
Still the best to watch and scientific tutorial. So good for me as beginner to try all step by step. I often come back to watch parts again. This one is not the easiest to get.. Also amazing to see how perfectly you mastered this and especially your beat juggling tutorials! Thank you very much Angelo! 😊
Appreciate your tutorials have been around for a while, but I've only recent started trying to learn hip hop scratching and these have been a great help, thanks man!
I've read several Flare Orbit Tutorials and didn't get the point, which is the open crossfader between the forward and backward movement. Thanks man... this was really helpful... keep up the good work...
Oh man, you are the bomb; and this tutorial rocks the house! So great to finally see a well put together tutorial, I only happened to stumble across it searching for 1 click flare, but think I will start at the beginning of your tuts cos they are very clear and professional. Well spoken, love the comprehensive step by step, love the combo and beat demos, good camera angle for hand positioning and you've not gone too fast which most do making it hard to learn! Lovin it.
I have been DJing professional for 6 years now and I'm finally getting into turntabelism and I'm super stoked to find you! This will really help me tie the knot on my career as a DJ and get to the next level. I started out as a producer and then DJing for clubs just sort of fell into my laptop because I understood sound. I had no idea how to DJ though lol over time I've gotten really comfortable with my transitions, beat matching, loops, using effects, and reading a crowd so I am so stoked to start progressing into some legit performance DJing. I have played guitar my whole life so I am hoping the coordination I have gained from that over the years will help me with scratching 😅 man this is going to be so awesome! Thank you so much for the practice routines! I will practice super hard and send you a video once I get it the routines down ✊
These tutorials are seriously worth paying for. ANgelo you are too generous with your time! Not that I'm complaining :) Please keep doin what you do...
You are really an awesome DJ! The efforts you made in creating a video with a more specific and detailed information as well as the step-by-step procedure, truly helped me a lot! I give you my highest respect man! Even though I am left record- handed, your video really works for me as well! Thank you very much DJ Angelo for sharing your thoughts and ideas and may the good Lord give you more blessings to come!!!
you're the best man. been trying to learn these sounds on my own. but with these tutorials I'm learning a little faster now. thanks for using your time to teach us. RESPECT !!!!!
I have been trying for months to get this scratch. Breaking it into 4 parts has gotten me so much closer. Still don't have it yet...…but feel like I am getting much closer. Thank you so much for these tutorials.
your my number 1 source for instructional turntablism... PLS continue making them. I continually refer back to them for reminders because they are the best. Cheers edenthedjguy New Zealand
I just found your videos and i'm not afraid to say i'm 40 and always wondered why I couldn't get most of this stuff back in the 80's and wound up switching over to rappin. Now in about half an hour you have explained what was going wrong. I now am going to buy some more Tech 12's and try again. I know i'll be able to get given the instructions you've especially the part about the faders. My faders weren't coming in untin it got past half way and as a beginner i wasn't fast enough for that.
These tutorials are great... wish I'd found them 12 years ago when you posted them. I've been through them all as tbh I never really bothered about actual names of scratches etc etc in the 20+ years I've been djing... I got all the way to the flare and it was great to actually properly learn the names and the correct technique and for me how / what scratch I could already do to produce what sound. The flare wasn't in my repertoire, but thanks to this I'm slowly getting it :) I'm sure you've 1000 better things to do, but I fully vote for some more and would love to see some specific combo tutorials... anyway, big thanks, much love and respect 👊🏻
Man... I've been scratching for years as a hobby really and workin with the xfader open throws me all over the place! :-D Thanks for some inspiration Angelo...
Exactly my friend. In the right hands the turntable can be a sophisticated instrument, not just a medium to play music. So why not use it to the fullest...
It really helps when you can see what your doing with the crossfader unlike most tutorials out there where u really can't see what there doing this is really going to help thanks .. Just one question on flares where is the curve best????
@LOW3beats one thing that has helped me a little is imagining that you are playing bongos! lol seriously your record hand moves first, second count your fader hand cuts then record hand rewinds, fader hand cuts... wash n repeat! hope this makes sense lol. Props to Angelo for the great tutorial!
To record from your turntables to your laptop, you can use a PHONO to MINI-JACK cable. Connect the PHONO end to your mixer's LINE OUT and the MINI-JACK end to your laptops LINE IN. Regarding software, you could use Audacity or Sound Forge. Make sure the LINE-IN input has been enabled on your laptop.
Great video, I've been waiting for this one for a long time, I've been trying to get this scratch for months now. This will help I'm sure, keep the vids coming :)
Thanks DJ Angelo from the UK my son Kadius is 10 years old he wants to become a DJ just like you oneday he want to master both rapping and techo, by watching your tutorial he really loves watching you showing him and really taken it in. So thanks once again. NZ Kiwi .
can't thank you enough mate, I have pretty much mastered the chirp through your video and now after just a few days I'm starting to really get this. I'm having some great success with a chirp one click combo, I just can't stop doing it haha. Looking to move to the 2 click soon and then the dreaded crab. I'd love to hear some feedback from Hamster scratchers out there how you finding learning these techniques?
Hi man, ure my saver!! Chirp and Flare were exactly what i need to know to give a sense to my patterns of other tricks, an dyou explained perfectly the moves and everything. Now i know what my hands have to do, to get the same sounds what those i could hear in songs. Thanks, and greats from Luxemburg.
yeah!! was about time lol... one of the greatest tutorials out there for sure... i got one of the greatest inspirations from just one personal message response that u wrote, something that no money can buy... i gave you only 5 stars because you cant give 6... subbed a long time ago =) keep up the good work..
I will be starting some beat juggling tutorials soon but I'm trying to do these vids in a certain logical order, especially for the benefit of all beginners. So 2-Click Flare and Crab to follow, then hopefully start on beat juggling. Thanks for your support and understanding...
thanks buddy seen many of these tutorials but really like the way you have broken it down and then givein some patterns to try. Ive been djing for 31 years but was brought up learning to transform only so getting used to using the crossfader in the opposite direction has been my single biggest issue with learning to flare. I keep closing the fader as i let the sound out :-). What would you suggest to help with this? keep up the good work
I plan to use different scratching techniques for my next CD. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Although the trumpet has taken a lot of my time DJing is one of my first loves.
thanks for the tutorials, i appreciate you takin the time to post these up! got any advice for someone with creativity block? i have a hard time thinkin of new patterns and sentences and always find myself reverting back to the same techniques. it sucks! haha
Hey DJ Angelo! You're awesome! Thanks for sharing you knowledge and time with us. By the way, what's the name of the song that you're scratching at the end of the video, and when you're scratching are you thinking like "ok, let's do some flares in here, and then transform" or you're just doing what do you feel fits the best? Thanks a lot! Greetings from Mexico.
really nice, I've also checked your shows, and as a beginning dj and organizer of concerts I know what my aim is - your show in Poland, and me as a support + some nice concerts - btw Have you ever been to Poland?
Very impressive demonstration, even inspiring lol. I'm hoping to incorporate some scratching into my mixes. Not DJ Hype status, but I want to have some extra fun in between. If I improvise all the time with my mouth, why not with my hands.
There's no such thing as a stupid question as everyone has to start somewhere. DJs scratch using sounds that are on the vinyl, by moving them forwards and backwards. Any sound can be scratched but it works best with clear, isolated sounds so most DJs nowadays scratch using specific records that are produced only for this purpose. There are many "scratch records" on the market. Just check the "DJ Tools" section of a record store. I'd recommend you watch my first tutorial which explains further...
Hey Angelo, 2 weeks ago I got the 1 click orbit. Now I can't stop orbiting! Combined with the other simpler scratches I feel like I can now really scratch. From no mixer experience to here it took me 15 months. Thanks for your help.
I've been trying to brute force learning scratching, and just stumbled across this about a few months in my journey. This series will be immensely helpful! Hoping to keep the craft alive. Thank you Angelo!
This is the best flare tutorial I've seen.
you are one of the responsibles for me wanting to become a turntablist.
thank you for teaching and motivating us!
Still the best to watch and scientific tutorial. So good for me as beginner to try all step by step. I often come back to watch parts again. This one is not the easiest to get.. Appreciate your tutorials have been around for a while, but I've only recent started trying to learn hip hop scratching and these have been a great help, thanks man!
Cheers for teaching me how to scratch while in isolation. I'm still shit, but slightly less shit than 2 months ago
Your turntable tutorials are incredibly helpful for me on my way to learning scratching. Thank you so much.
Still the best tutorials in 2022. Thanx Maestro.
This is actually one of the most helping tutorials i've watched. Thank U!!!
I've read several Flare Orbit Tutorials and didn't get the point, which is the open crossfader between the forward and backward movement. Thanks man... this was really helpful... keep up the good work...

I'm left handed but I prefer using my left hand for the cross fader. I feel like I have more dexterity in that hand.
you're the best man. been trying to learn these sounds on my own. but with these tutorials I'm learning a little faster now. thanks for using your time to teach us. RESPECT !!!!!

Enjoy my man 👊🏽
i can tell you really like chirps and flares, your freestyles at the end of these tutorials are so smooth!
This was surprisingly better/clearer than QBert's flare tutorial!
QBert is a master on the decks but I do feel DJ Angelo really breaks things down thoroughly for the true beginner.
^ Agree
Great tutorial. This is such a hard scratch to learn but i'm FINALLY getting it!
This is by far the best tutorial I've seen yet. Not to mention those chirp flares were mean.
