My family is from Jamaica and whenever I visit Belize it feels like home with a Latin twist. Love the Caribbean/central American fusion of culture and food. ❤️
I believe most of central america makes their tamales that way but always good! If anyone is ever in the LA/Inglewood area, please try Little Belize Restaurant & support small food businesses!!

Mexico has different kinds of tamales. I’m from south Mexico and we have tamales like this one (we call them tamales rancheros). I didn’t know they had them in Belize but it makes sense since we’re so close. It’s so cool to share dishes within different countries.
I was born in belize my grandmother was Mayan I know her family came from the Quintana Roo area i believe it's tied into the mayan culture I remember going to the villages when I was a boy and seeing bee's with out stingers that were kept in hollowed logs and used to collect honey and I also saw the same honey harvesting methods when driving through the Yucatan Peninsula and a lot of other similar foods and customs and I bet you the tamales rancheros have a similar taste to what my grandmother made✌
I have family from Guerrero and they make them like this as well but we call them nacatamales! :)
In Belize there are different kind of tamales especially between the Yucatec Maya communities of Belize.
The tamal is wrapped up in banana leaves. That’s what gives it the unique flavor. It’s made with masa de maíz, red recado, and a bunch of other seasonings. The one that Eli is eating is called tamales de colado. It’s softerand wet. Tamales de tortillado is firmer and more “dry”. Thank you for showcasing our little country. My home 🥰🇧🇿 much love. Firstly, I’m glad Eli got to try all of our amazing food. I must say that for you to have the best tamales, chirmole and escabeche you must have them in the northern part of the country since those are dishes native to the north and part of our inherited Mexican culture. The same way sere and hudut are native to the southern part of the country 😄

Yes of course! Everything except the tasty Hudut and Sere is influenced of Yucatan because you all are our Northern neighbors. Many of the people in Northern Belize are decedents of Mexican Mestizos.

Hudut is both the plantin and coconut gravy together it's one dish(I'm garifuna). Sere on the other hand is another creole dish that has potato, tomato and all that in there 🇧🇿🇧🇿🔥🔥🔥🔥#reppingthe501

Came up in my reccomendation and that makes me very happy. If nothing else, the one thing literally everyone from outside the country (and iniside obv lol) talks about, is the amazing food. Things just tend to be booming with flavor here and Im not only fortunate to have been growing up with all of it but also proud to have others try em and say such amazing things about us. These are really just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Belizean staples. Thanks though for showcasing this though, was very heartwarming to see :D

I love living and growing up in Belize. Such a beautiful country. But one thing I've learnt as I got older, and proven in this video with the food you tried, Belize is truly a multicultural country. The settlers and migrators from other countries enriched our dishes so much. It is not easy finding a specific dish that was originated in Belize. I'd love to hear more thoughts on this thou.
The Belizean version of escabeche is so interesting to me. I grew up w/ the Argentinean version which is a pickled vegetable mix.
