Just wanted to add Philip, the actual focus of the footage you did was perfect. It feels and looks real and has a certain distance and noir to it that I think makes it preferable to something clinical like clear focus at all times.
Thank You! I really love this lens, the price, the build quality, it's all excellent. I think the whole line-up is probably good, but Irix never sent me any of the other lenses, so I can't comment on them.
Good to see I wasn't the only one with slightly shaky focus breathing footage 😂. Great breakdown! Just posted a short review on my channel with a little horror short. And like you said, it ticks all the boxes. Exactly what I said in my review. Literally couldn't find anything bad to say about it.
Actually, it will work amazingly well for APSC sensors as the lens is much sharper in the centre and with any lens they fall off on the edges while you’re using just primarily the centre 2/3 of the lens so you’ve got the sharpest image all the way around even to the edges
I appreciate you recommend this incredibly low cost cine lens!! I am impressed by its great performance! I think I will purchase one in the near future!! In addition i liked that you mentioned the shoulder rig changes your mind. I really agree with you. Makes you more professional.
Thank You! I think you'll be very happy with it, it's a fantastic lens, especially considering the price! Yes, the shoulder rig really changes how you film, I recommend one!
I have used Xeen once, they were okay, but I really like the design and feel of the Irix. If I had to choose it would be hard, as they're both great budget cine lenses, but I think I'd go with Irix as I've really enjoyed using it.
Cześć Philip, it definitely is a lovely lense, im running the 150 mm macro and 45mm for tabletop, actually in Poland too man, great video mate, cheers.
Czesc Kasper! It's a great lens, the 150mm macro looks great, and the 45mm is no doubt a fantastic focal length. Well, in that case, greetings from Lodz 🇵🇱
Niiice, gotta get my hands on some of these Irix one day Btw, I wonder how do you manage to get that crispy quality sound while shooting in rather big and empty room? Any tricks?
It's a really, really nice lens! I have quite an echo in this room, so I use voice isolation in Final Cut Pro X, and it really helps clean it up and get rid of that nasty echo as much as possible. Thanks!
I completly agree, having a rig makes it feel like more of real filmaker. Your mindset does change. Its embarrasing just walking in with a rigless camera
Looks amazing! Also great music on the example video, are you using a specific service for this? (Edit - sorry, I'm guessing it's the link in the description, would love to know the track name)
Thank You! Yes, I use Artlist, you can find the link in the description below, 2 months free if you sign up. As for the song name, I always tag the song artist and name in the video, it should show pop up wherever a song comes on in the corner somewhere.
Well, that is my shoulder rig, for other shots, I slide it off the plate and use it with a top handle, handheld, on a gimbal, etc. My shoulder rig is for specific shoulder rig shots, it's another tool in the shed.
I might start off with this - there are two 180 rules in cinematography. The first is a magic line which your camera shouldn't cross if you're filming two people speaking to each other, the second is the standard in the film industry, and it explains the relationship between shutter speed and frame rate when recording motion in video. To mimic motion the same way the human eye experiences it in real life, the 180-degree rule states that shutter speed should be set to double your frame rate. - So if you're filming at 25fps your shutter should be 1/50th, an ND filter will help you get your shutter speed low enough so you're footage isn't overexposed. Now, both these rules can be broken depending on the look you're going for and to do so is another tool in the cinematographers shed.
lol! I actually love one lens sets... but I've asked Irix if they could send me a full set, so I could bring a review on every single one of their lenses, and be able to use them in my everyday work. The 30mm though! That is no doubt the one and only lens that you can use for everything and it'll always look good.
The colour is my grade, however, Poland during winter is quite pale, as is my way of using FilmConvert to grade, I enjoy the muted tones. You can grade it how you wish though if your cameras profile can handle it, and you can get a lot more saturation out of it, sure!

Wow! Thanks for showing this lens. It’s great to know this kind of thing is out there for this price!
I'm happy to share it with you guys. I'm pretty shocked such a high quality lens is out there for this price too!
Ooooooh Phil is stepping up the game in video creation :)
Just mixing it up a little, doing more of what I love 🔥

I know it’s meant for full frame cameras, but I’m assuming it’ll still work for apsc sensors? It would just be 45mm focal length instead of 30
Correct and maybe a bit less focus fall off to the sides?
@@bertoliniduceor just use a speedbooster and not loose anything.

Regarding the shoulder rig, I didn't quite catch the name of the brand. What was it? Looks very nice.

@@PhillipSkraba Thank you, really very difficult to choose. Did you shoot wide open? T1.5?
Yes, all the examples in my video were shot wide open.
Nice find. Thanks for sharing
It really is, thanks!
Very nice. Your videos are so informative.
Thank You Thomas, I do my best to make them as clear as possible 🤘🏻
very nice review!! so, did you use it on a fullframe bady in test, or an aps-c?
Thank You! This was all shot on my Sony A7S3.
You really have mw interested, as a Sony shooter, I used 6 key Russian lenses, but love your video and will defo try :) Cheers, keep up the great work

The 21 and 45 are 2 of my favorite lenses I own. Better than G masters for interviews
The 30mm really is great, and yes, for me the character they bring to the image really blows GMs away.
Are there filters that would be able to go on this 30mm?
Sure there are!

I would love to see an classic 85mm from Irix, I think it would be a great addition to an already superb line up.

Your rig is geared for ots shots but what about other shots for the scene? That's why I'm not into the shoulder mounts.

@@PhillipSkraba can get too comfortable with a set up sometimes. Yeah moving about the camera gets us many shots to cut.

Does it have internal focus hard stops for gimbal focus motor?
Would be a great lens for my Fx6 😅 🎥 best cinematic greetings from germany
It would be perfect on the FX6!! All the best from Poland.
May I have a link to the shoulder rig you showed in the video?
Sure, you can find it right here - www.8sinn.com/8sinn-vct-universal-shoulder-base-plate-8sinn-side-arm-for-shoulder-rigs-dual-side-grip-full-kit.html
I have a Samyang Cine 35mm T1.5 lens and I got it at a good price.
That's all I am going to stick with for now.
Oh yeah, the Samyangs are dirt cheap to pick up, quality and resolution is a little lacking for my needs, but it's a good stepping stone.
Have you ever compared this to the Meike FF or s35 Cine lenses? 😊
Color looks very pale. Is it possible to get better color saturation in post, without it looking forced?
The colour is my grade, however, Poland during winter is quite pale, as is my way of using FilmConvert to grade, I enjoy the muted tones. You can grade it how you wish though if your cameras profile can handle it, and you can get a lot more saturation out of it, sure!

what is the minimum focus distance?
I didn’t mention it somewhere in the video?! I must have 🤘🏻

$1200 = “budget”?
