I never bought a used tacoma. I bought a new one 11 yrs ago. Still have it. Other than regular maintenance the only thing I did was u joints last August. Runs like when I drove it off the lot. It has been above the arctic circle

Rusty frames are a concern for any make of used vehicles.
I looked at a really good looking 4Runner and crawled under it. It was Swiss cheese under there. I walked away from that one. A few months later, Offer Up notified me that it sold for the asking price.
Not a car, but a boat. I bought a boat that was selling for a really good price and the trailer looked freshly painted. Towed it home over a hundred miles. The next day, I looked at it closer and noticed some bad rust on the hardware for the bunks. I did the hammer test and it went through the trailer rails in many spots. I had to replace the trailer with a brand new one.

Fluid colors mean nothing as a dishonest person would top off/replace it.

I have a bunch of rotten frame photos from a dealership parking lot. My Gen2 Tacoma passed the first warranty inspection but I knew where it was rotting from the inside out I made sure it didn't pass the second inspection. It only had 130,000kms at the time. That spot across from the cab mount and next to the cat is 2 layers of steel the outside is solid, but the inner layer has a hole so its a starting point for the rust plus. Dont forget woolwax or fluid film before thes winter.

How do you feel about an 05 with a 5 year old frame? It's got 250,000 on it and it's a trd off road standard v6. Also in N.B and they want 15000 for it.

"There none fur"... "They're known for"... ouch, that hurt my brain. Is this how the kids have toasted English these days?.

Take off the trim inside the driverside and passenger side doors. The panel that hides the plug connections is held in with a hand turn screw.
Roll back the carpet as far as you can especially on the driverside. 80% of the time when buying a used 2nd gen there's rust. Even if they've been undercoated their whole life!
Water gets in from the windsheild seal and from door trim that became dry rotted. There's also a known clogged ac line that can often drip and leak into the passenger side area. Oh, and the antanna can cause leaks into the passenger side as well.
There's also a known faulty weld on both sides of the 05-12 tacomas. It's just a small pin hole that let's water in. It's very minor but over 15 years it can cause damage. Annnnnnd the wiring harnesses can also let in water if the drains aren't cleared.
If the seat mounts on the driver side are rusted. You can be rest assured that there is likely a hole in the floor pan.
Timing chain, ac compressor, manifolds. Watch out for all of that and enjoy your truck for the rest of your life.

Excellent video! I want to keep my Tacoma for a long time and I'm worried about rust. Who around here does rust proofing? Or can you guys do this? I want any oil or wax based material, not the rubberized demon coating.

Fluid film. Apply yourself with an air compressor. $150 will get you 2+ years of coverage

Excellent video, back in the early '80 we used to do these checks on used vehicles. Many now don't do these checks but I learned a few things from this video.
My 2021 Tacoma TRD 4X4 Premium is still going strong. Replaced all the shocks with Bilstein 6112 and 5100 in the back and Icon AAL.
Going off-road in Ontario is like heaven on earth.

Do you recommend fluid film to preemptively prevent frame rust? What do you recommend?

I feel like you guys would do a great video about how to know how to tell just how far gone a Tacoma frame is. The delaminating layers piece seems catastrophic and hard to read. My 09 definitely has some rust between the layers, but no bloating or separating. It would be great to know when it's toast, or when it's about to be toast. Another video you guys should do is how to know if a frame is repairable or not -- and what the repair methods are. I'm baffled that Toyota botched this frame so badly. At what point do they go from 'rusty' to 'garbage', and how do you know?

Further to my last comment: My tacoma only ever towed one thing...a 2020 Z28 Colarado which broke down and needed to be moved so the flat bed tow truck could load it

When having a car inspected by a potential buyer's mechanic, are there any issues with liability that the seller needs to sign off on?

Great thorough video for anybody buying or thinking about buying a truck.
I just bought my first truck six months ago, a 2011 tundra low km168xxx. The fuel pump went on it about a month ago and my mechanic said when he dropped the tank there was zero rust behind it, leading him to believe the frame was already replaced. Being in Nova Scotia I recognized how good the frame looked in terms of rust before I bought it, which was a big reason I ended up buying the truck. Lucky me I guess !
    Keep the vids coming
Cheers from the other side 🇨🇦
