Controlled Experiments

- Meet Mark and Molly. They were just given some plants. The only problem is that neither Mark nor Molly has a green thumb, they are not very good at growing plants. In order the keep the plants healthy Mark and Molly need to figure out how much to water the plants.
Mark takes his plant, places it in the window and decides to give it 100ml of water once a week. Molly hides her plant from Mark and places it in the closet. There she decides to water it with 100ml of water three times a week.
One month later.
Mark's plant is green, tall and healthy. Molly's is looking a little yellow and not so healthy. Mark concludes that it is better to water a plant once a week. Although Mark's plant is healthier something was not fair in this comparison. If you remember Mark's plant received sunlight while Molly's did not.
To figure out how much to water their plants Mark and Molly needed to set up a controlled experiment. In this type of experiment everything needs to stay the same except one variable. Both plants need to be planted in the same size pot, using the same type of soil and the same amount of soil. Each plant needs to be in the same temperature and what Mark and Molly did not do was give each plant the same amount of sunlight. Then one part of the experiment can be manipulated. In our example the amount of water used to water the plants is the only thing different between the two plants. The part of the experiment that is changed is called the independent variable.
One month later.
The results are different this time. Given equal amounts of sunlight we see that the plant responded better to Molly's amount of water. To ensure the accuracy of the experiment Mark and Molly could repeat it a few times to make sure they did not make any mistakes.
Controlled experiments are used in science all of the time. Just remember to keep everything constant or the same except one variable that you change.
After a month they're still wearing the same clothes
Their dumbasses
@@thiccrubberduck it's THEY'RE as in (After a month THEY ARE still wearing the same clothes.
I HAVE TO WATCH THIS FOR SCHOOL AND ITS SCREWING UP MY RUclips RECOMMENDATIONS
dislike it and it will stop i think, its what I do
@@LawnChair43 I’m not gonna dislike it. It helped me learn stuff for science. It was actually a pretty good video but I don’t want science videos in my feed.
Who is watching this in 2020 for HW??
yes
Nope
me😊
me 💀
Me,2023😢😢
Legend says they're still wearing the same clothes to this very day
"Molly hid her plant in the closet."
Bad memories arrives.
who else school is using this vid

This is great for younger kids or as a simple introduction. Great example. I've been looking for a good video on this topic for my students and this is the best I've seen so far. Thank you!
Thanks for the kind words! I plan on adding more videos each week keep checking the channel!
I'm actually figuring out what this means for a question in my worksheets. At first I have doubts but after seeing this, wow okay so that's what it is. Thank you very much.
the fact im watching this is hurting my soul (for school still sad tho)
Same
😭💔same
Great video Mark. I am going to use this in my science class. However, I would also add the dependent variable to show how Molly's plant grew more than Mark's.
My teacher make me see this
Yes 🙄
Me as well, I feel for you bro 😥
when this video is 8 years old but you're still doing it for home work

It is a very important video to start introducing the idea of scientific method and how to set an experiment for elementary students, thanks a lot.
I'm confused about how, Mark's experiment is the same and had vastly different results. This is so big of a loophole, hope you reupload it.
Excellent video- simple. makes the points. and paced just right. thank you for making this part of science make sense!
JUST TELL US THE DEFINTION DANGIT
This helps a lot with the difference between independent and dependent variables!
What is the dependent and independent variable?
thanks m8 was going insane getting my head around this lol
Why am I watching this in 2020?!
Maybe yo learning it -_-
same
Thank you! I'll use it on my Bio class this week ;)
I need to download this video for my Science class because I need to show it to my class.
who else is watching this for school lmao
Such a simple video! Thank you! I understand this better now :)
Good Job
I love your clips. They are short and interesting so I can use them to reinforce or introduce concepts with my biology students. Please keep them coming!
IV BEEN SEND HERE BY MY TEACHER
what was the dependent variable?
Currently watching for school 😝
this helped me more than any other details website

Hi
same
thank you
ok cool
Im in highschool and still using this
Grumpy Yellowfang I’m in college and still using this
Sasuke Uchiha I’m in middle and still using this
Im in the 8th grade and still using this
Thanks that helped me a lot because my idea for a science fair project is due tomorrow and it said that it need a control
YOOOO 7 YEARS AGO
@@watyes7546 yOOOOOOOOO 9 YEARS AGO
it is a lesson, not an experiment! it is also about plants which is time consuming to do yourself.
Good video:)
so what is the definition of a controlled experiment???
An experiment in which only one variable is changed in order to isolate your results. >_
In science when doing the experiment, and t must be a controlled experiment. The scientist must contrast an experimental group with a control group
An experiment in which Two groups are treated exactly alike except for the one variable being tested
Plz sub me
The definition of a controlled experiment is to only change 1 thing in it.
Mark's plant looks more rotten bruh...🤣
Thank you!
Get ya yeeted on
shrek smile on that beat
Can you please add a definition for the meaning of controlled experiment
thank you for making this video
This was a good video:) Nice job!
Is the procedure used in the study correct?
How is watching this from school
this is very helpful, thanks!
what is the controlled setup
Thank you so much for your help!!
thx for the vud
What the definition tho?
I still don't understand :|
Ticci Toby don't worry I'm dumb too
Yea unfortunately 🙁
so I guess molly's plant ended upcoming out of the closet *ba-dum-tss*
Thanks
This helped me with my subject
How can you get subscribers
It helped me for the quiz
This is 5 months ago
I was summoned here by my 6th grade science teacher
Thanks, man! This helped! :D
😎 cool
Thanks sir for this video it really helped 🤗🤗😘😘
but it is a great video dont think im hating loll keep uo the work
Who’s here from mr barrels class right now?😌
only u bro
Who would watch this on their free time. Not I tf

100 likes for a live stream
Did anyone else come here because they were to lazy to de hw?
hello there I doing my H.W and still didn't understand 😃💔
ye
So it’s that one variable being tested called a a manipulation? Manipulated variable trying to identify it within the controlled Experiment
Ok
that sucks
Welp-
this comment section is literally the worst
I get it

This is so stupid. Ive never in my life have ever heard of "controls" ....ive done mamy science experiments and have never heard of controls until I see my child`s first science project. This video explains NOTHING. What the heck is "controls"?????
