- In this video I'm reviewing LEGO Creator 3in1 31152 Space Astronaut, 31156 Tropical Ukelele and 31148 Retro Roller Skate. Is LEGO Creator 3in1 2024 a line of display models were they no longer do actual toys? Let's find out.

I think it's cool that they're experimenting with 3-in-1 sets focusing on being display pieces. There's plenty of ones that focus on play first already, and they probably figured you can only make a car, plane, pet or doll house so many times. We'll see how successful these are, but even as a kid I always liked the building process most
I am working in sales in a lego store and the sad but true thing is that I see more and more parents come to me with the same problem. The kids from today do not play with the lego as much as at least I did in my childhood. They just build it and send it to the shelf :((
Maybe that’s why they try going in more like a display direction :((
Oh no... I guess I was right after all.. 🥲
Building it is playing with it!
Huh. I always thought it went the other way around
Or even worse: they end up on a big pile, over time losing pieces whenever those are needed for something else. At least that's how it goes with my brothers's kids. They have so much, yet most of it is rarely used nor looked at at once it's built. Nowadays I even try to avoid giving them even more Lego, as much as they love every new set they get, it just adds to the pile.
Thinking back at my youth, most sets didn't last a day, and rarely were they build a second time. It was all about the pieces and using those for other stuff. I do still have most of the instructions though, and a few years ago I built everything once again. And it's just baffling how little it actually was, yet how much we could do with it back in those days. I now literally have sets that have more pieces than all of the old stuff combined....
I think Lego is fine with that. If kids buy and keep building stuff from the sets they have, they will be less triggered to buy new sets, whereas with a display set, after purchase, it's basically "single use" and the demand to get something again after that, will present itself sooner. For Lego sales and profit it's basically better to sell "single use" display sets.
I think it's a generational thing. My sister has bought a few 3 in 1 sets, and she displays them all.
I think Lego is picking up on adults that are buying Creator sets as a cheaper alternative to the Icon and Ideas sets. There are probably kids out there that have built some of the 18+ sets and appreciate the display value. It also fills the niche of brick built items that aren't licensed Icon sets.
Really, I see myself buying all three at some point.
My daughter (15 now) loves building sets but has always refused to take them apart or rebuild. She does display them, so I think Lego is picking up on this generation's preferences.
i like displaying sets to (mostly star wars) but that doesn't mean lego cant have play features. I got the buildable tiger for 40 bucks last year and it has a lot of features to play with and not just any other model representing a tiger
When I was a kid we made elaborate imaginary stories with our sets, my kids are fascinated by unique building techniques as they build, but don't make stories. My daughter is begging me to let her build my Rivendell so maybe I should let her over Christmas break and we can act out some LOTR fanfic?
taking sets apart nowdays not only is really bothersome but they also really look much nicer I think
@@HomaWoodrum definitely lol
@@HomaWoodrum Yes! I vote that you let her build it. How wonderful that at 15 she takes an interest in what you, her Mom, loves. Maybe build the set together! Either way, it's wonderul that she is interested in this. Best wishes!
I saw the 3 builds in the thumbnail and thought, that's one weird set 🤣
I'm excited for these 3 new sets, especially the spaceman!
It would be cool if it came with a spaceman minifig, but I can just use the one I have from an earlier rocket ship creator set
3 in 1? I see what you did there

I always saw Creator 3 in 1 as more for a slightly older audience, so since Lego as a whole is leaning into its older audiences in general, it makes sense to see this theme go from being toys to display pieces
That astronaut has to be in the top five 3in1 creator sets OAT, perfect balance between display- and playability, and the alt models are very good. Now imagine they made a knight with the same principle.
The astronaut is so good!
I love how you put an actual elephant in the room, Tiago!
I feel minifig related sets are mostly intended for play, whereas 3 in 1 has always been more about the creativity, building and display value of the sets. 3 in 1 has usually a good variety of both though it is pretty great to see more detailed/display orientated builds like we saw from the tiger a few years back. All three of these look fantastic, though the astronaut is easily my favorite of the wave. Substantially built, and detailed and articulated for play, and display.
Creator is definitely one of my favourite Lego brands nowadays, the colourful and original models are a delight.
Wow, the 3 sets I was actually thinking about buying! Thanks TC
No problem 👍
First thing I thought seeing the 3-in-1 astronaut was that it would be a cool mech, nice to see the designer had that same thought lol
I just got the astronaut set today. To me, the astronaut is my favorite creator set because of detail
So glad they made that astronaut set! I've seen quite a number of those at Ideas, but none ever made it. It just looks cool, and that alternate dob build is just cute AF.
As for the other two, I can see the appeal, but those are not for me.
Never seen such a perfect lineup of 3in1 sets
i am in love with these new sets. excellent video
More to come!
I thought that the roller skate and the ukulele were alternate builds for the same set, because of the colour. That would have been neat, playable or not.
Same
3, 3 in 1’s, in 1? Nice.
The sets I wanted a review of😊
More to come!
Love the retro roller skates. 🛼
I think it’s been true for a long time that older kids/teens often “grow out of” LEGO because they don’t want to “play with toys”. This seems like a smart move to capture those teens with more ‘mature’ display sets that aren’t as expensive as the ones targeted more overtly to adults.
There are plenty of LEGO sets dedicated to play, IMO. And I think Classic bulk is better for those kids that love building/rebuilding anyway.
I see your point but I don't think a set "Retro Roller Skate" is geared towards teens or older teens, especially when one of the builds is a radio / boombox something they probably have never used. This set is obviously geared towards a different generation. Models are fine, like the ukulele set, but make them something their generation/ age group is interested in.
idk, I really like the roller-skate and ukulele sets, kids can definitely still find ways to play with those, toy versions of everyday objects exist of course.
That's not to say the astronaut doesn't blow them out of the water of course, but it's also a bigger set soooo (cost)
Dude you had me thinking that the Astronaut could somehow be made into Rollerskates or a Ukulele 😂
I love that Lego is doing this "colab" across themes
and space! the perfect choice
colab the wrong word to use here f it is a word at all
Glad to see content for unlicensed themes. A few display models is nice but it's a bit concerning that none of the sets this wave have minifigs. It basically means if you want sets to play with you either have to buy city, ninjago, friends or some licensed theme, where as before there was all sorts of cool options in Creator.
I really hope that you will be able to continue with those honest and brilliant review and L company won't blocked you for that 😉 Thanks for great work!
I think the price and versatility of the creator 3 in 1 sets attract a broad audience. For the parrot set for example, I saw a lot of lego date night tik toks pick up that specific set. I would imagine the price and final build had a lot to do with its popularity. I think lego is trying to recreate that magic in the roller skate and ukulele set.
Astronaut !!! I'd for sure put my little HULK in there. I'd like to watch the 3in 1 parrot review; i have it ; am ready to try it . Can't find that video but i've been watching you all day and learned so much! Bonus ; i built my first Lego about six weeks ago ; i'm 70.
I saw the thumbnail and was wondering how a roller skate and ukulele of these colours transformed into an astronaut.. until I started the video haha
I also dislike the technic connectors, too, Tiago. I always try to turn it to the back, so when I look at it, I don’t see the gap.
I know a lot of people dont like the buildable figures but I really want all of them. Especially that astronaut!
The astronaut instantly attracted me the most as the best of that group.
The ukulele set is perfect for making LEGO apology videos!
Now that you mention it, yes the Spaceman has to go into my space collection!
As a kid I never wanted to read the instructions, many sets got opened and I never built what was in the box. I have fun with the 3 in 1 sets because I actually build all 3 savings the main build for last. The astronaut is definitely cool!
Love the astronaut, I can see that being popular. I don't personally care much for the other two, though, almost as if Lego makes products for people who aren't me.
Creator is a funny theme, really, they've done so many different things over the years. I've been collecting Creator theme plane sets lately and my most recent purchases have been Island Adventure, Sonic Boom and Fast Flyers (the F-14 Tomcat) and they're all so different from one another; one has a minifig and.a mini deserted island, one has room for two minifigs in the cockpit and light bricks and the last doesn't have an opening cockpit but does have a working swing wing mechanism... Granted these sets go back a way now, but it's fun to see the theme constantly changing. Hope they release another big 600 piece plane soon, they're all so good.
I need to astronaut for my space shelf❤
You did a great job of reviewing these!
Those Creator 3 in 1 sets are my favorite sets for 2024, I LOVE them.
looking fantastic. the guitar got me.
I am an active rollergirl. This is a nobrainer. Looks awesome. So cute the nuds. Toe-stop. Pink wheels. Perfect. I love it.
4:50 What is that piece being used in the joints of the astronaut? It looks like a 1x2 grill piece, but with rounded corners.
Never mind, it’s a ball joint connector.
Pink tires at last!
The elephant in your room nailed it 😂
4:48 JESUS CHRIST WHAT A TWIST!
CRAAAAACKK
eheheheh @@TiagoCatarino
From the thumbnail I thought all of these were one set
I think the pink tires belong to the "Barbie fever" 😁😁 We should get used to it
Ahaha "New LEGO Barbie theme coming in 2024!!!"
Really glad Lego is using paper bags instead of plastic.
At long last!
I'm excited about all 3!
The 3in1 sets have always been geared towards the younger builders, hence the age 8+, some sets are 6+. Most kids know what a roller skate is, but a radio or boombox, they probably have never used one, the skateboard is on target for the age range so they got 2 our of 3 correct. But the set is called "Retro Roller Skate" telling you the market isn't the age group it usually is made for.
It really would have been nice if LEGO included a minifigure with the Astronaut set.
I'm looking forward to all the new Space themed sets. I just built the Lego Dreams Spacebus and the Galaxy Explorer.
Love the spaceman awsome review
Pretty cool, not as cool as the castle or the pirate ship from years before but still cool.
3 in 1 is one of my favorite themes but I like sets that you can play with.
In fairness, the Pirate Ship and Castle are vastly more expensive than these three
I want creator to bring back the buildings that were closed in the back that were like mini-modulars. That noodle shop was cool but I was hoping something would follow it up soon.
Someone probably pointed this out, but Tires have come in different colors before. They just very rarely recolor them for whatever reason. There were some Ninjago sets I got on clearance years ago that used red tank treads that were made with the same kind of plastic as the rest of the lego tires. Really looking forward to the kind of stuff people come up with using these new tires, though.
"They move to the right direciton regarding sustainability" . Yeah man ! One platic bag to go 1500 plastic parts to play ! :D
"The torso can even turn‐almost too much" *breaks his spine*
😈
my museum set was all plastic bag, even thought it was released december 1st. My guess is that is because of existing supplies they still have in their warehouse, or long term contracts with suppliers. It`s already been bought and paid for. Would be a waste not to use it until they run out/contracts expire. It`s a business after all, not using it would just cost Lego money.
When I read the title I really thought the 3-in-1 was gonna be an Astronaut, a Ukulele, and a Roller Skate all in a single set...
0:53 i just want pink tires
I can't be the only person who saw that thumbnail and the title and thought... that's a weird combination of models to come in one 3-in-1 set?
I love the Roller Skates.
Just a heads up when you say "a couple", it means 2. As a non native English speaker, I understand the mistake cause growing up i thought a couple meant a few, but it literally means what it says, a couple meaning 2
The selection is kinda "meh", in look, value and replayability, especially if you compare it to the amazing sets released in the same line in the last years. We ALREADY have a posable astronaut (alternate of the space shuttle), for a cheaper price and arguably better looking.
I'll see what people will come out with for alternative build, but considering the cost and the colors, I won't keep my hopes up.
I need to buy those pink wheels one way or another...
From the thumbnail, I thought these were one set. I was trying to work out where all the white came from for the astronaut.
I mostly like lego for building and display, so 3in1 display sets are pretty perfect for me.
I can now design my LEGO BARBIE car with this Roller 31148 😀
I'm not really a fan of these sets as I'm not really interested in objects and would rather buildings and vehicles in Lego sets but I don't really see a problem with exposed studs, to me if I didn't want to see exposed studs, then I'd buy something that wasn't Lego. The studs add charm to me
Great Review!!
Those sets are cool but I'm looking forward to the retro camera.
As an adult I’m excited for these sets but I wouldn’t get them for my nieces and nephews
ngl, they’re cute. i’d buy them if they are cheap enough. makes a good display piece. though im not a child anymore
do the lego potted plants !! pleassee
I actually kinda like the astronaut. I shall get!
Really good
5:40 - I don’t get the hate for studs on models. Studs make those toys look iconic. I expect studs when I play with LEGO. The fact that so many modern models opt for tiles is sad for me.
These sets are great
I think some display sets are fine as long as there's still more play sets
The camera set is awesome
The polaroid set is too expensive
Please!!! Lego city space!!!🙏🙏🙏
What happened to the LEGO Ideas astronaut project? THis creator set looks suspiciously similar, but just more scaled down...
Mfw one astronaut build looks like another one 😱😱😱
I was always mad as a kid with the 3 in one car sets because they never fit a lego man and you could never play with it. Creator always had the playability problem even 20 years ago
The Astronaut looks a lot like the Buildable figures for DC and Marvel, in my opinion.
Way bigger though
@@TiagoCatarino I am not talking about the mechs, I'm saying Batman, Captain America, Ant-Man, those ones.
Ooooh I thought the kit was literally a 3 in 1 of those three things and I was like, wth?
Will there also come reviews of the 31155 Hamster wheel and the 31146 retro camera?
Have no interest in the Hamster but I might do the camera and the giraffe!
These sets didn’t look like lego to me when seeing them small on the thumbnail.
They’ve got great curvature and look cool!
I like the rollerskate but the more I have seen it the more I would change about it. The laces just bug me for some reason.
Thoroughly enjoyed seeing the elephant in the room…!
Can you do the tiny plants as well?
It has knees? 🤩
I think that with one or two mods thd astronaut will looks sweet in my nasa collection
It be nice to see the peacock the giraffe and the rest of the sets.
Reviewing the 3 in one sets and only focusing on one build doesn't actually feel useful to me, even if I only plan on displaying one build, I like doing the other two builds first.
Welp I was gonna save some cash and not get the astronaut... So much for that idea. haha
It’s beautiful, the action figure of the astronaut, the other things beautiful, but not playful
finally some cheaper adult sets! i hope they still make the other sets with more playability
My baby sister (11 years old) says she loves building sets and prefers sets that can be displayed rather than played now that she's older so these sets make sense to me
02:03 yeah, feels more and more that these smaller creator sets are being more focused towards AFOLs more than kids! I guess they’re realising that a lot of AFOLs can’t afford to spend 300+ in one go on one LEGO set. So whilst they have done cheaper stuff like the art sets, that are quite explicit in their adult focus. They seem to be back dooming sets like this as adult/collector time sets that are more attainable. The pink flower Tiger set also comes to mind, I mean why else put such an admittedly funny detail in as the flower piece round the back? Seems a bit odd to do for a kids set. 🤔🤷🤣
