So, if a student uses the same words in a sentence that matches another student's work or an article from a website. Does not mean he (she) has intentionally or unintentionally plagiarize. For example: if I wrote an essay on the Civil War, and used the words "Congress," "Confederacy," or using common phrases like "the Confederacy was defeated" or "the Confederacy lost" in a sentence, it might or might not be considered plagiarism? My point is there is no other way to paraphrase these common phrases, and replacing a word with another word with same definition. Therefore, the Turnitin software is useless, and does not resolve the issue of plagiarism!

If turnitin gives a similarity report more than 12% Can a students assignment be discarded and be referred to an act of plagiarism?because of the report?
